Practical versatile lid. Easy storage. Vent opens and closes.,

This review is from: Progressive International Stainless Steel Universal Lid (Kitchen)
This appears identical to the same lid we got at a local store several years ago. We are happy with it. As implied by the word universal, it can fit many different sizes of pots and pans.About the shape: The center of the lid is recessed; it is lower than the outer circumference. In between the center of the lid and the outer edge, there is a shallow stair-step pattern of graduated heights. Actually, each concentric circle is angled downward towards the center, a slight angle. The design allows the pan to cover a range of small, medium, and large pans without leaving a gap at the top of the pan. Venting: There is one small vent, easily opened or closed using one finger. With the vent closed, the lid is not 100 percent air-tight, but good enough. I don't think we would want a completely air-tight lid for cooking (except for pressure cookers which are an entirely different story). Storage: Some lids are a hassle to store in a small kitchen, if the handles are tall. This lid does not have that problem. Because the center of the lid is recessed, the round knob adds very little to the overall height. A storage option: It can hang from an angled nail on the back of the pantry door. The vent opening is easy to slip over a nail or small peg. Not so flimsy that it would bend or dent. This stainless-steel lid is between medium and light weight. That is OK with me; I don't think a lid needs to be heavy (unlike the pans). The center knob seems to be some type of synthetic material -- not sure what. I assume it should not go into an oven at high heat. The ideal universal lid would be something versatile enough for oven use. The knob does not get hot, but a potholder is still recommended, because the knob is short. P.S. Regarding the recessed center of the lid -- the overall height difference between the center and the outer edge is minor; under an inch difference in height, I estimate (not including the knob). Approximately 1/8 inch height difference at each stair-step of the concentric rings.

Suits my needs for a lid,

This is better than what I expected and being that these universal lids seem to be harder to find for some reason, I would recommend it. It does have a slightly blunt edge but so does my other universal lid. I like the vent on it. Using a 10" skillet more often than a 12" skillet I am aware the I have to use a pot holder to lift the lid since it is bigger than the 10"diameter. I will probably buy it again depending on how it compares with my old universal lid. I need to try it out a few more times to make that decision.

Serves its purpose...,

I specifically purchased this cover for a 12.5" skillet I have. It covers it well, but slides VERY easily since there is no edge grip to keep it in place, it's polished stainless steel, and extremely light. I was moving around some cookware on my range, and it almost fell off quite a few times. Also, the edge is somewhat "sharp" (be careful when handling), including the steam vent switch. But, it appears durable for the cost, is called a "universal" lid, and serves its purpose, so I can't complain too much.
