this thing looks weird but it is great!
This tool is fabulous! When I first got it I thought my parents got me another strange, but useful, kitchen gadget that I would use once in a a while... I use it all the time! It is sharp enough to cut veggies precisely and quickly, and dull enough to leave briefly on the counter without worrying about nicking your fingers (or the munchkins grabbing it by accident)...

Great Product but Dissapointed in the Measurement Durability
While I definitely like the utility of this scraper I am disappointed that the measurement numbers are already coming off after a year. The scraper is used maybe once a month and is hand washed. I would love to see the measurements engraved such as on some measuring cups and spoons. Strangely, if this product never had the measurements on it I would probably have rated...

It is sharp enough to cut veggies precisely and quickly, and dull enough to leave briefly on the counter without worrying about nicking your fingers (or the munchkins grabbing it by accident)! The scooping action is very efficient and cleans off the cutting board of all of the yuck from the previous veggie (even tomatos). Try it you'll like it... especially at this price!

Works great, built well, a bargain., October 31, 2003
This is one of those handy little tools that has many uses. In practice, I use it mainly for scraping up dough that I've been rolling out, and for flattening things. Like most items of this brand, it's built to last. And it's a bargain. After having one for a while, I had to resist the temptation to buy two. If you bake a lot, get it; you won't be sorry.

im addicted to this item!!, April 26, 2005
I was at a friends house making soup together. When she handed me this crazy thing I can honestly say I thought she was crazy! then i started to chop the veggies with this...omg i was amazed at how this cut! not only does it do a good job with veggies, but it cut cheese, butter, and tofu. I want to throw away all my expensive knives and just use this!!

Multi-functional, February 14, 2008
The Bash and Chop by Progressive was formerly marketed under the name of The Galloping Gourmet, Graham Kerr. I seem to remember Mr. Kerr waxing enthusiastic about Progressive allowing him to help design this particular device, as it was his idea, originally. This is very similar to a dough scraper, with one significant difference: It has a side that can lie flat on the surface, such as the surface of a cutting or chopping board, which allows this particular device to be used to bash...garlic, for example or ginger. Garlic needs to be bashed for several reasons: 1st, for removing skins, and 2nd, beginning the chopping process, alongside ginger, which is treated in nearly the same way. The "-N- Chop" part of this product's name is more problematic...the edge provided is not sufficient for chopping any significant types or volume of vegetables, so, the cook or chef's knife would be the preferred method of finishing any chopping or slicing chore, however, the Bash -N- Chop reinserts itself into the food prep equation at the end of all the chopping, thusly: The perfectly chopped...garlic, ginger, etc. lies on the board, small piles of nearly microscopic cubes of flavor, waiting to be lovingly added to your culinary work of art, but your hands are inadequate to the task and the edge of your knife objects strongly to such a menial and dulling task. Bash -N- Chop, to the rescue! The same flat side that was created to bash allows the Bash -N- Chop to be used as a nearly perfect board scraper, picking up your finely diced nuggets of flavor and depositing them in your creation, just at the right time and the nearly sharpened edge allows you to get all the juices that might have been released, as well. Your Bash -N- Chop has one more use, to me. The quasi-sharpened edge is also marked with 1 inch incremental marks and as small as 1/8 inch marks are indicated and the marks are handy for measuring...anything you might need to measure. I find this tool invaluable, so much so, that I usually wash it by hand, rather than allow it to run through the dishwasher cycle and be unreachable or unuasble for any length of time.

Wonderful tool, November 28, 2005
I had one of these a number of years ago and lost it in a move. It always stuck in my head - wish I had that tool again....so fnally I went looking for it and was SO happy to find that it's still being made. I don't use it to chop or bash as the name would inducate. I generally cut with a regular knife - the utility I find is in how you can get all the stuff you just cut onto the flat part and then put it into the bowl or pan without dropping things. I just love it - such a simple tool but it makes a huge difference in the kitchen.

Great Product but Dissapointed in the Measurement Durability, August 23, 2011
This review is from: Progressive #LGK-3620 Stainless Steel Bash, Chop, and Scoop Cutter
While I definitely like the utility of this scraper I am disappointed that the measurement numbers are already coming off after a year. The scraper is used maybe once a month and is hand washed. I would love to see the measurements engraved such as on some measuring cups and spoons. Strangely, if this product never had the measurements on it I would probably have rated it 5 stars but since it is marketed as a measuring tool as well I feel like I have to say that it is only OK.

The blade even has a raised measure (in inches)!, October 12, 2005
I may not use this for veggies (although it will be great for cauliflower, broccoli and the like). After all, that is what a good chef's or santoku knife is for. This will be great for cutting and scraping dough, however. This is a heavy-weight specialty item offered at a very attractive price. Thank you 'Beall's' for shipping so promptly!

useful tool, but beware of dimensions, July 5, 2011
This review is from: Progressive #LGK-3620 Stainless Steel Bash, Chop, and Scoop Cutter
This works fine for scraping stuff. It is one piece stainless steel, so clean up is easy. Just be careful that what the picture shows seems larger than it actually is. The blade length is slightly under 6 inches. The width is 3.5 inches without handle part, and 4.5 inches total. So I feel that it is a tad too small. Also the blade edge could be rough at places. So you may need to sharpen it.

How do you bake without this tool?, January 17, 2011
This review is from: Progressive #LGK-3620 Stainless Steel Bash, Chop, and Scoop Cutter
I used to work in a donut shop as a teen and used this tool, from lifting up donuts and cookies, scraping the flour off the soaking tables and scraping the bottom of the commercial size jelly bottom refrigerator. I now use one at home because I make cookies quite often. If you accidently let your cookies cool to much you can get them off the pan without breaking them and when you do them right, you can get them off the pan this way, too. I'm going to send one of these, to my Step-Mother who bakes a lot. Next, I'm going to read what else you can do with this great tool. Thanks!

magical tool, July 24, 2010
This review is from: Progressive #LGK-3620 Stainless Steel Bash, Chop, and Scoop Cutter
nice for cutting cheese, cake, pies... haven't tried it on carrots or the like. It's a beveled edge, not sharp like a knife. It is great for cleaning off a chopping block, scooping stuff up. Might work especially well with one of those flexible chopping sheets.
