Book Description

April 29, 2004
In November 2004, 44 states will hold legislative elections and 78 percent of all legislative seats will be up for grabs. In 25 states, a switch of just three seats or less could change the party in power. Both political parties are now fighting furiously for control.

The Progressive Platform for the States is a policy briefing book designed to help progressives compile and convey a persuasive agenda in this crucial election year. This book covers a very wide range of domestic issues - from corporate accountability to predatory lending, from prescription drug pricing to sentencing reform. And it doesn't shy away from hot-button issues, addressing reproductive health, gun control, the death penalty, medical marijuana, and same-sex marriage.

Although written for legislative candidates, the Progressive Platform is also an excellent guidebook for city, county and gubernatorial campaigns and causes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive primer on domestic policy, September 22, 2004

This review is from: Progressive Platform for the States (Paperback)
While this candidate briefing book is aimed at would-be state legislators, it is equally useful to grassroots activists. It provides 2-page summaries of the progressive/liberal arguments on 90 different domestic issues, and refers the reader to both in-depth research and model legislation. Progressives need more practical, easy-to-use political tools like this!
