Editorial Reviews

Review

I found this workbook very helpful in improving my psychological performance. The easy to follow exercises helped me to prepare for my games, practises and tournaments. It made a huge difference in my performance. Using the visualization exercises before practises really made it seem like I had done it before. It is an excellent workbook that's easy to follow. -- K. Sturn

About the Author

As a coach, I find that athletes at all levels find it quite natural to improve their physical and technical skills for their sport. Although very desireable, when the "mental training" aspect comes into the picture, unless a trained sport psychologist is accessible, there may be only confusion on where to start, and what process to take. I wrote this workbook as a guideline for athletes and coaches to be self directed in their quest for one of the most important ingredients in the success of sports... the mind. So my plan is to assist you in waking up that part of your sport experience. My training with the Canadian National Coaching Certification Program, My Health and Nutrition Diploma, My Coaching Diploma Program at Douglas Colege in New Westminster, BC, Canada, My Pursuit of a Physical Education Degree and my quest to obtain an international certificate for Mental Training along with 7 years of coaching has given me considerable insight into the importance and effectiveness of sport psychology.

I've passed this book around to the other goalies on our team and we all agree - this system works! It is well laid out and simple to use. It brings our problems and strengths into sharp focus and gives us the tools we need to improve rapidly.

4.0 out of 5 stars It could be better, February 3, 2003
This review is from: Progressive Psychological Performance for Goaltending (Hockey) (Spiral-bound)
It's going to depend on what you are looking for. If this is your first attempt at visualization then it's going to be fine for you. But if you are looking for something more advanced you may be waiting for a while. No one has yet to delve into the true psychological needs and development of goaltending. This is a great book for anyone who needs a workbook as they try to improve their focus and concentration, but more could be done. I hope the author continues to research the mental parts of goaltending and adds more information on overall sports sociology and psychology. There is more to be discussed, reviewed and discovered.
