Great book for playing more creative and musical fills!,
By Richard Caldwell (Durham, NC United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Progressive Rock, Jazz And Funk Drumming (Paperback)
I don't know why this book doesn't get more attention but I found it to be an invaluble resource for composing and playing more interesting fills around the drum kit. If you are tired of just rolling down the toms this is the book for you. This book teaches you to split notes between snare/toms/and bass drum in common patterns such as paradiddles and triplets that actually sound good as opposed to exercises in other texts that train your hands but could not be played along with real music. Jim does an excellent job using patterns that sound like they could be thrown into a song as written. Cut the patterns in half and use them as two count fills. Every drummer could benefit from this book!

I'll second that...,

I want to second the review below. This is a really nice drum book. I would guess it does not get the attention it deserves because it does not have a "big name" associated with it nor is it a rudimental study book. Nonetheless, you would not be disappointed to own it. It is interesting and challenging and will certainly aid in your becoming a much better drummer thru reudimental expansion around your kit.
