5.0 out of 5 stars The art of erotica
As with each passing, Luis Royo offers more promissing and sexual images than in any of his prior works. This book is definitely not for the young as many of the images do little, if anything to hide the sexual interests being portrayed. Still, any fan of Luis Royo, erotic art or art in general would be mistaken to miss this work. The mood in which this book is...

2.0 out of 5 stars Could be much better
The artwork that is in the book is interesting but the number of larger artworks is disappointing, most are small. The book itself is thin and small. Overall a great disappointment compared to the other Royo books I own and not worth the price when compared to what I paid for the other full size Royo books that are packed with full page artworks.

This book is definitely not for the young as many of the images do little, if anything to hide the sexual interests being portrayed. Still, any fan of Luis Royo, erotic art or art in general would be mistaken to miss this work. The mood in which this book is portrayed could be argued, but nothing can remove from the quality of art that Luis Royo achieved in this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars The title says it all, December 23, 2000

"Prohibited" is the sexually most explicit of Royo's books. Again, astonishingly beautiful, sexy women are the center of attention. It's like a notebook for "III Millenium" 'coz the background is dark, suggesting danger. My biggest problem with this book is that the pictures are ranging from small to tiny, which gives me this 'notebook'-impression. Other than that it is high quality work. Royo's use of light is simply excellent - as always.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not what I expected, December 9, 2002
This review is from: Prohibited Book (Hardcover)
Well I enjoyed this book to some degree, but it just wasn't what I expected. The images in it are incredbly beautiful, but the text seems to be a little bit over the top, and ever silly at times. This is a nice book of illustrated erotica, but I usually find myself ignoring the words and just appreciating the artwork.

5.0 out of 5 stars My wish would be that this book be full sized, August 23, 2004
This review is from: Prohibited Book (Hardcover)
On the plus side this is a hard cover book so that sort of makes up for the smaller size and low page count.
some reviews may rate this book low due to its explicitness, but
that's really what the prohibited series of books represents..
not just nude - seminude pinups..
In here you'll find some of the same type of art you may be used to from Royo.. and some more explicit.
With the prohibited series Royo seems to like using a sketch like technique for most of his pics.. very dull browns or stained looking pages, a few images are the full or vibrant color that Royo is famous for. It's a different style to his first books, but you can tell its by the same artist.
Even his son Romulo chimes in with a few pieces of his art, they are very tiny images. it looks like he uses real photos and manipulates them with a computer.
Prohibited is a must have series for fans of Luis Royo that want to find out some Malefic Secrets, Dreams and Visons of Luis Royo's Women

3.0 out of 5 stars good but not what I expected, September 30, 2000
This review is from: Prohibited Book (Hardcover)
I am an admiror of royo's great artistic skills and when I saw that this new piece was being released I didn't hesitate in buying it,while I wasn't disapointed at royo's displayed art I did expect a lot more than this,.it has a very small amount of illustrations and this book is just about sexual imagery,no fantasy or general ideas displayed here, besides these illustrations aren't as overwhelming as those you usualy see from royo's wide collection. also there are some of his sons works displayed throughout the book, but I didn't like them because they have nothing to do with royo's style, they're completely out of context. the texts that you find on this book are somewhat twisted. actually this little book is like a collectors item, not really something very special.only worth getting it if you like to have a complete collection of royo's books.

2.0 out of 5 stars Good art, but why is it still on my shelf?, October 3, 2007
This review is from: Prohibited Book (Hardcover)
Luis Royo has talent. You would know, or else why check out the reviews to 'double-check'? His finished pieces are amazing, as you can see on covers of his books, but is it worth getting? Hmm... Well I bought it and liked it for the first 5 minutes, but afterwards regretted owning it.

It's a thin book without much paintings. You see sketches and ideas that was flowing through him at the time, but not much to be satisfied. It's not something you would carry and impress others with.

Just be prepared to be impressed and ending up ebaying it.

2.0 out of 5 stars Leftovers, March 16, 2001

As Royo's work goes this book does not live up to his usual standard. There seems to be just a hodgepodge of art that he and his son did with a dark twist; his other collections are much more enjoyable and unless you're into some demented stuff don't bother with this one.

3.0 out of 5 stars Royo with a Twist, August 4, 2000
This review is from: Prohibited Book (Hardcover)
As an avid Royo fan, I was on the edge of my seat to recieve his latest addition to the collection. Prohibited showed a very "dark" Royo, and not the usual darkness...this went beyond his normally violent/sexy approach and was filled with sexual violence. This book is still a work of art, all of Royo's paintings are beautiful and this is no exception...just not what I was expecting. Plus I wasn't really happy with the smattering of his son's work throughout the "very small" collection. Prohibited is the smallest release yet, with few paintings and small pages. It felt more like a thrown together volume to advertise for his up and coming son, rather than a compilation of new visions. The end result? A few VERY good paintings, but mostly fluff...I was disappointed over all.

2.0 out of 5 stars disappointing book altho great art, February 12, 2006
By
jenni tapanila (helsinki, Finland) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Prohibited Book (Hardcover)
this was my first non-photo art-book, and i gave it a try because i enjoy Royo's work when i see it in various places. maybe because i'm used to big and heavy photo books, this one was such a disappointment. the book is physically small and thin. then i open it, and it's easy to count how many of the pages have been actually used to show a full page size drawing; 11. i think 11 is not much. there are several smaller sketches and drawings thrown on the pages here and there, but they are seriously small and i would enjoy seeing more detail since i'm sure the detail does look great. the layout all in all is a bit weird in places... i suppose it is harder to work with drawings than photos tho since the afore mentioned don't have clear borders always.

the 11 or so full size pages are great, Royo's work is inspiring and sexy and raw. i think i bought this one used and it was really cheap, so i guess i somewhat got my money's worth but i'm not going to risk it buying another one his books before i see it in real life.
