5.0 out of 5 stars Another Pop Masterpiece From Roberto, June 26, 2000

What can be said? Roberto Carlos is to Brasilian pop music what Antonio Carlos Jobim is to Bossa Nova. And this is another great album with classic mid-60's arrangements typical of American pop music of the time. All the ingredients are in place here: the "young and in love" romantic overtones; the lost-love & broken-hearted themes; and of course the songs of pure fun, such as the all-time hit "Meu Calhambeque." Though regrettably short (28 minutes), there isn't a bad note on this record and you'll want to hear it over and over. If you like 60's pop/rock then you'll definitely want to hear this. Listen for the Beatles influence.

I can't believe that Roberto was doing it in 1964??? 1963 to 2003 = 40 year career in pop music. This guy is the personification of talent.

Several tracks co-written by Erasmo Carlos, Roberto's early friend and colaborator.

One note: This album is in Portugese, but hey, that's cool. Suddenly I'm 25% more worldly.

I can follow along with the songs if I know the Spanish counterparts. Several of these songs appear on later Spanish recordings, including: Rosinha (Spanish=Rosita), O Calhambeque (Spanish=Mi Cacharrito).

The quality of the recording is excellent. The quality of the vocal performance is stellar, similar to the famous Roberto we know and love, but a little greener and sillier. The silliness (chanting Hey, oh yeah, Ha, etc) reminds me of Trini Lopez, only Trini could pull it off and sound awesome, Roberto isn't quite as good at this.

The Spanish recording known as "Mi Cacharrito" is better than the Portugese version here. The Spanish story is slightly amplified and Roberto is more mature, authoritative and experienced in that recording. Also to hear him narrate passages in Spanish with his Portugese accent is way charming.

1964 recording features surf guitar and style, and basic rock combo arrangements.

No lyric sheet, and no liner notes.

Published by Sony Music and Columbia.

Final opinion: Roberto Carlos-Can't get enough of him.
