5.0 out of 5 stars One word...Wow
For those seriously shopping for a new CD and are considering this one, ignore all the other reviews that keep saying "this CD rocks! Buy it!" While I agree, remember that no matter how many comparisons Project gets to P.O.D., they are not P.O.D. If you're looking for a more melodic sound, stick with P.O.D. or some of Project's later releases.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good Start to a Great Band
Projects breakout album was a good one indeed. Not as strong as DBL or STBYBB, but still a good album. The only reason this got 3 stars is simply for a hint of monotany throughout the album. The album still rocks hard enough for most metal heads to catch on. The definite standout songs on the album were "Pipe Dream" and "Run". They displayed a great lyrical style and...

As for this CD, expect only two things. Hard, driving guitar chords with a driving beat, and lyrics that are best described as poetic. This is one of those few CD's where I can sit down and read the lyrics and get as much out of them as listening to the music.
This CD really shows Andrew Schwab's intentions when writing a song. Not to make you sing along or tap your foot, but to make you think. Sometimes he does this job all too perfect. I often find that the words of this CD get stuck in my head more than the music itself.
So, before you click that button to put this in your basket, remember to do a few things. Listen to the samples, ask yourself if you're in the mood for deep thinking, and check to make sure your walls are strong enough for you to slam into them without breaking.

5.0 out of 5 stars projecting the true powe of music, February 1, 2000

At the forefront of the current heavy music revolution is the Southern California influenced rapcore scene. With so many Adidas-donning commercial heros capitalizing on this up-and-coming street level sound it is difficult to imagine anything not of the cookie-cutter mold coming out of the genre. There is however, one California band that is staying true to their own musical directions and creating in-your-face metal outside of the corporate circle. Though California natives Project 86 are not breaking any new ground with their self-titled debut on BEC records they are however infusing new life into this now commercialized sound and making bodies move. Touting their own unique song writing flavor, P86 have carved themselves out a niche in the new-school metal world that is uniquely their own. At times, it seems as they have collectively infused the progressive sound of Tool with the hardcore smarts of Biohazard and the flow and feel of older Rollins Band. The conglomeration of styles adds to the slamming excitement of the quartet's neveau-hardcore sound. The vocal attack led by front-man Andrew Schwab has smooth rhythmic flow without being overly hip hop influenced. Place that over the subtle nuances of Randy Torres' riff laden guitar sound and the groove-heavy bottom-end of drummer Alex Albert and bassist Steven Dail and P86 are ready to make an impact in the pits. Helping to add to the aggressive edge of the album was producer Bryan Carlstrom (Biohazard, Anthrax, White Zombie, Jane's Addiction). P86's lyrics effect the soul as much as the music drives the body. Typical of many hardcore influenced bands the album takes a long, hard look at life and the struggles within each of our daily routines and how to survive and overcome. The street-wise edge of the words drives the point home with poignant examples of urban life and personal struggle along with a heartfelt Christian message. The words join with the music in a bond of sheer mayhem created to move bodies and minds alike in ways they have never been moved before. So call it controlled musical aggression. Call it progressive sounding hardcore. Call it new-school metal with a twist. Call it whatever you want because Project 86 are all about making the listener reconsider what the true power of music is.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome Hard-core, February 3, 2000

Well just to lay it on the line this is the most awesome hard-core album I have ever listened to. I have had the cd for over a year and I can still listen to it with out getting bored. The song "sirens" has got to be my all time favorite. I love the way they can make their songs so hard and keep it christian and clean. Some of the lyrics on the songs are so thought provoking I think anyone christian or secular would understand what they are saying. they get the point across and do it to the best music ever so if you are looking for something hard and clean this is it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding, February 2, 2000
This review is from: Project 86 (Audio CD)
This band is great, they have a mixture of korn, tool, rage against the machine and henry rollins. At first I was skeptical when my room mate gave this cd for my birthday, cause I never heard of this band and I never listened to Christian rock before. When I threw in the CD I was amazed by the sound, it was simular to every thing I listened to but so different. This cd is one of my favorites now, I recommend if your into hard rock/metal that you buy this cd.

5.0 out of 5 stars best so-called christian band out there, March 17, 2000

i never really liked christian bands until i bought project 86's first cd.in my personel opinion, they are better than the likes of rage, limp,or even korn.and as far as there lyrics go,those other bands don't even come close.i've never heard a band of such high quality musically, and that has challenged me spiritually except for project.p.o.d. is a far second.if you're looking for a cd that is as good if not much better than limp or korn and that might help you in your relationship with God,project 86 is the best one out there.by the way i bought there new cd about 2 weeks ago and it's even better than the first one.all i can say is watch out main stream.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best hardcore CDs produced. Period., December 14, 1999

This group is unbelievably good. Hard playing throughout with loud guitars, thick bass, and hard drums. And Andrew is an awesome, and honest songwriter. He talks about struggles in his life as well as a creative look at God's awesome affect on our lives. I also love how Andrew sings, or should I say how he yells. This CD is crammed full of awesome song after awesome song. Pipe Dream and Six Sirens(with Sonny Sandoval as a guest singer making it even tighter.) are two of THE BEST hardcore songs I have ever heard. This stuff is so much better than that main stream supposedly "hard core" stuff. I really don't even like mainstream stuff because the bands put out one good song and everyone buys the CD and there is no other songs that are even half way listenable. Underground music rules.

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb!, September 22, 2002
This review is from: Project 86 (Audio CD)
When I first heard Run on a local christian station, I was impressed. When I bought the cd home and played it, I almost cried...no, not because it [stank], but because it ROCKED!

When I first read the lyrics along side the album, it brought to it a whole new life. I couldn't understand at the time how one could right such deep thoughtful lyrics that make a person proud to be a rational thinking christian, but I am all the more thankful for it now. The scream of "Rise!" on Spill Me to "Arise from the dead and wake," on When Darkness Reigns, will send chills up your spine and give you and adrenaline rush that the extreme sports types look for. Once hearing this album, and attending a Project 86 show, I, personally, feel that you will be begging for them to play any of the tracks on this album with passion. After this check out the other albums Drawing Black Lines and Truthless Heroes, but be prepared for a different sound.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Project Works., September 26, 2000

This self-titled Project 86 cd is tight. The riffing, drumming and vocals keep it real. It's got to be one of the best nu-school metal bands out. For their first cd, they show cunning and surprising lyrics and skill. Remniscent of korn, tool in the mix it all works. Vocals are uncompared though. I'd say this band ventures into new territory. The liner notes contain great artwork. Check it out.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Real and Deep!, April 13, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Project 86 (Audio CD)
Well what can I say this album is so freakin awsome, well so is the new one for that matter. This first release by the Project shows you all the talent that got them the deal with "Atlantic." With deep and thought provoking lyrics that provide the listener with a spiritual uplift they bring the rap-metal scene to a whole new level. With tracks like "Pipe Dream" they tell you to choose side "Dark or Light" "God or The Devil" saying you can't stay in the middle. If you are tired of the same old music telling you to "Break Stuff" and want something meaningfull then this CD is one you should not pass up.
