5.0 out of 5 stars THE MOST MINDBLOWING ALBUM YOU WILL EVER HEAR!, February 8, 2000
By
Daron Lewis (Los Angeles, WEST COAST!) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Project Blowed (Audio CD)
This is the LA Underground at its finest. Originaly released in 1995, but it doesnt even matter because those who sleep will still be trying to comprehend in 2026. Blowed is so artisticly above all other rap crews its an understatement to say they sound "unique". And dont think that translates into "oh, boring artsy rap" because if the lyrics dont slap you upside the head first, then the beats will cause a neck injury! Project Blowed is to hip hop what Coltrane is to jazz, and it still bumps in the ride. Hopefully, since this is being re-released (on cd for the first time too, previous editions were vinyl only) the word will spread and the LA underground can get their props WORLDWIDE. So if you wanna hear the freshest styles in all of hip hop, I beg you, even if you have to starve yourself or save your laundrymat money and walk around in funky drawers for a while, GET THIS cuz if you dont, you aint nothin but a know-not. ..........DRENELEN

5.0 out of 5 stars original and musical, June 5, 2000

Some of the samples are so familiar, like OC's Word.. Life which is used in all the interludes, the Isley's Between the Sheets, of Big Poppa fame and Stevie's Pasttime Paradise, which was played out by Coolio, but these rappers innovate these beats even and just exploit them to the fullest. The rhyming styles are amazing and diverse, you hear people talking like a conversation style, really rhyming well to the beat, then you can get that bone-thuggy type melodic fast flow, and straight bouncy west coast bumpers but with better lyrics than your average hoo-banging type isht. I have the cd, and so as far as numbers go, #14 is like an 8 minute masterpiece, and the first three tracks are great, plus the track by the females which is around 9 or so. All the emcees are "underground," and there's a great sample about that somewhere that I cant remember to quote, but I think Aceleyone has been making a bigger name for himself as of late, and its too bad his name isnt even bigger as he's dope, as are the rest. This is one of those few underground cds that no one hears of but your stupid backpacking friend that actually IS GOOD. Get it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Y'all don't even know...., August 29, 2000

Don't try to comprehend how fresh and raw this album is... you'll hurt your head. In order to give y'all some context, this album was put out in 1995, when the airwaves were congested by "dance rap" like will smith & co. This album has every type of MC style a true fan could want: wordplay, conscious, metaphor, and story... you can really feel the emotion on these tracks. And if you're ever in L.A., drop by Leimert Park on a Thursday nite and find out where the title of the album comes from!

5.0 out of 5 stars Did somebody say somethin about lyrics?, March 5, 2000

Good lord!...the cats at Project Blowed have got some lyrics. This album can not be slept on. When emcees like Aceyalone, P.E.A.C.E, Self-Jupiter, and Abstract Rude collaborate with Fat Jack you have some of the most provocative audible treats available. This is an album that you can listen to over and over again, and by the time you think you understand each and every rhyme, you laugh a yet another mind blowing line or metaphor. Bottom line is if you consider yourself a hip hop head and you haven't heard of Project Blowed or the Freestyle Fellowship than you have got to get a hold of some money and buy this cd.
