Book Description

May 1, 2006 Zebra Debut
Katherine Murphy needs to know. Her obsessive, demanding supervisor has given her an assignment that goes way beyond the call of duty: find her a man. But not just any man - he must have the perfect combination of good looks, job security, and solid genes to make him daddy-worthy. So, with a lofty promotion being dangled in front of her, Katherine dives back into the dating pool to find another woman's Mr. Right...There is, however, a problem with Katherine's approach: for some reason, going up to strange guys and asking if they're ready for fatherhood is getting her nowhere. Which is why she recruits her best friend Luc to help with the man hunt. As he drags her out to gallery openings and bars, Katherine develops a new appreciation for Luc. But when Katherine strikes out in her search and Luc steps up to the plate as her boss's next date, she realizes he's perfect. Maybe too perfect to waste on someone else...

Editorial Reviews

From Booklist

*Starred Review* Researcher Katharine Murphy has a lousy personal life. Her mother died when Katharine was young, leaving her with a father who drowns his sorrows with liquor and wagering. Katharine's professional life is just as bad. Her bully of a boss, Lydia Ashworth, gives Katharine assignments with unreasonable deadlines and expectations, the latest of which is to find her a suitable sperm donor. As Katharine undertakes the demeaning search for the perfect father for Lydia's baby, there is only one bright light in her life, her best friend since ninth grade, massage therapist Luc Fiorelli. But even this relationship becomes endangered when Luc reveals that his feelings for Katharine go beyond friendship. Despite the sadness and aggravation in Katharine's life, Perry turns in a romantic comedy, enlivened by Katharine's quirks--she is a fount of trivial knowledge, which she draws on every time she gets nervous, which is often. The reactions of the potential sperm donors she interviews also provide comic relief. Perry's impressive debut is a winning and entertaining combination of humor and pathos. Shelley Mosley

More About the Author

As a little girl, Kate dreamt of many things. Like becoming a ninja. Dressing up in black and carrying a big sword? Seemed like a no brainer.

However, Fate had other plans for her, and she studied Kung Fu San Soo instead. A seventh degree black belt, Kate now has more weapons than she ever imagined--including several swords.

She lives in San Francisco. Voted by her friends as the woman they'd most want to stroll with down a dark alley, Kate is as likely to be spotted at the opera as she is doing tai chi in Golden Gate Park. Usually wearing black--in both cases.

5.0 out of 5 stars Heartwarming & fun!, May 24, 2006
This review is from: Project Daddy (Zebra Debut) (Mass Market Paperback)
Katherine Murphy's new work assignment: Find a donor with the perfect genes so her boss, Lydia Ashworth, can have a baby. The reward: Promotion to VP of Research. After a lifetime being uprooted by her alcholic father, this promotion means Kat can finally have stability and purchase a home of her own. Successful sperm is the only option.

With Kat's challenged social skills, asking hot men about their genetic make-up doesn't produce a willing applicant. So Kat enlists help from her popular best friend, Luc. Together, they comb the City in search of the proper genes. Completing her assignment is easier with Luc's help, and somewhere along the sperm search, Kat finds their friendship taking a new turn...

Quirky, fun, and surprisingly touching...Kate Perry's debut is a definite keeper.

5.0 out of 5 stars Funny Quick Read Romance~ Loved it!, July 16, 2008
This review is from: Project Daddy (Zebra Debut) (Mass Market Paperback)
I just happen to pick this up from a used book store....... i confess, i liked the cover.

This book was a wonderful surprise! It was so cute!

Katherine is working her way up the corporate ladder. She's given a project to find her psychotic boss a sperm donor, with a promise that if she succeeds she'll become vp at work. Katherine enlists her best friend Luc to help her find sperm candidates and what happens afterwards is hilarious and sweet.

Katherine rambles off random and odd facts whenever she gets nervous (which is often) and she will keep you laughing throughout the whole book!

This book is hilarious!

I loved everything about it...... great characters you can feel for, fall in love with, and laugh at. I read it in one day because it was hard to put down. I'm going to recommend it to all my friends!

2.0 out of 5 stars Seriously?, July 20, 2011
By
This review is from: Project Daddy (Zebra Debut) (Mass Market Paperback)
I cannot believe that reviewers gave this book 5 stars. The only reason I finished the book is that I had hope that it would get better and I liked Luc. The author kept on saying that Katherine was naive; I could have dealt with that. Nope. She was a functioning idiot with not a bit of common sense. What I thought was ridiculous was that the author tried to mask her inability to put two and two together in funny prose. It would have been a great book if Katherine had been a smart, logical woman in the same situation. More power to those who waste their time reading Project Daddy.
