Book Description

June 5, 2007
Jaded by his parents' divorce and the countless marriages unraveling around him, Mathew Boggs was a young man who'd lost all belief in lifelong love. Roped into chauffeuring his grandma and dying grandfather on weekly adventures, he realized that, sixty-three years later, they were still madly in love."Now, that's the marriage I want!" he said to himself.

Fired up to find more success stories, Mat talked his best friend, Jason Miller, a clueless commitmentphobe, into joining him on a cross-country search for America's greatest marriages, which they called "Project Everlasting." The two bumbling bachelors jumped in an RV and embarked on a 12,000-mile adventure, encompassing the beaches of Los Angeles, the skyscrapers of Manhattan, the bayous of Louisiana, and the mountains of Montana, to discover what it takes to make love last -- not from Ph.D.s or therapists but from more than 200 real couples who had walked the walk to more than forty years of marriage.

In Project Everlasting, they share their wisdom. Each chapter is dedicated to one of the pressing quest ions the bachelors asked the couples, such as:

  • "How do you know you've found The One?"
  • "What's missing from today's marriages?"
  • "How do you keep the romance alive?"
  • "What's the most important ingredient for a solid marriage?"

The couples opened their hearts and homes to Mat and Jason to reveal intimate and authentic portraits of fulfilling marriage. Couples like the Byrds, in New Orleans, who lost nearly everything they owned in the devastation of Katrina -- except their love and commitment to each other. Or ninety-somethings Ruth and Eddie Elcott in Los Angeles, who spent the first two years of their marriage separated by World War II and the later years of their marriage reading their wartime love letters to each other at bedtime.

Along the way, Mat and Jason began to understand why their own relationships hadn't worked out quite as planned. They also realized that what they were learning from their wise new friends could change everything for them and -- through Project Everlasting -- show their generation and generations to come how to build a marriage to last.

I have been in the Engagement Ring business for over 53 years. Our chain of 5 stores specialize in the Bridal market, with 90% of our revenue coming from the sale of Engagement Rings, Wedding bands, and Anniversary jewelery. We're so excited about the merits of this book that we are considering giving it as a gift to all of the engaged and married couples who come through our doors. If 50% of marriages end up in divorce, the other 50% are worth studying. mat and Jason have done a superb job of getting the secrets of a happy marriage from the "old timers" like my wife and I.

5.0 out of 5 stars Authors found the golden ticket to happy marriages, June 5, 2007
This review is from: Project Everlasting: Two Bachelors Discover the Secrets of America's Greatest Marriages (Hardcover)
Mat Boggs and Jason Miller crossed the country to find, interview and learn from America's "Marriage Masters," couples who had been happily married 40 years or more. Their new heart-warming book shows that they succeeded. Project Everlasting is filled with the kind of true life stories that can literally change the way people live and love. Reading these bachelors' attempts to understand love, respect and commitment along with the marriage masters' thoughts about what it takes to live happily ever after transformed what I thought about marriage. Kudos to these two men for seeking out those wiser than us, those who have been there, done that, and created a life filled with love and happiness. We should all learn from those who went before us -- especially those who found and kept love. We can do that by reading Project Everlasting. I recommend this book to everyone. -- Brendon Burchard, author of Life's Golden Ticket

This review is from: Project Everlasting: Two Bachelors Discover the Secrets of America's Greatest Marriages (Hardcover)
Project Everlasting is an inspiring book that everyone should read, whether you've been married for years, in the middle of it all, just starting out, or contemplating making that lifelong commitment. This book provides whatever it is you need to see as examples of loving marriages; it provides hope that marriages can last a lifetime and remain full of love. The book will make you laugh hysterically until your cheeks hurt, but it will also bring tears to your eyes as you read through the journey of each couples love story and how they made their marriage an everlasting love. It the perfect book and a great wedding present!
