WoW! Finally...a true road to a long and happy marriage,
By
This review is from: Project Everlasting: Two Bachelors Discover the Secrets of America's Greatest Marriages (Hardcover)
I have been in the Engagement Ring business for over 53 years. Our chain of 5 stores specialize in the Bridal market, with 90% of our revenue coming from the sale of Engagement Rings, Wedding bands, and Anniversary jewelery. We're so excited about the merits of this book that we are considering giving it as a gift to all of the engaged and married couples who come through our doors. If 50% of marriages end up in divorce, the other 50% are worth studying. mat and Jason have done a superb job of getting the secrets of a happy marriage from the "old timers" like my wife and I.

Authors found the golden ticket to happy marriages,
By
This review is from: Project Everlasting: Two Bachelors Discover the Secrets of America's Greatest Marriages (Hardcover)
Mat Boggs and Jason Miller crossed the country to find, interview and learn from America's "Marriage Masters," couples who had been happily married 40 years or more. Their new heart-warming book shows that they succeeded. Project Everlasting is filled with the kind of true life stories that can literally change the way people live and love. Reading these bachelors' attempts to understand love, respect and commitment along with the marriage masters' thoughts about what it takes to live happily ever after transformed what I thought about marriage. Kudos to these two men for seeking out those wiser than us, those who have been there, done that, and created a life filled with love and happiness. We should all learn from those who went before us -- especially those who found and kept love. We can do that by reading Project Everlasting. I recommend this book to everyone. -- Brendon Burchard, author of Life's Golden Ticket

This review is from: Project Everlasting: Two Bachelors Discover the Secrets of America's Greatest Marriages (Hardcover)
Project Everlasting is an inspiring book that everyone should read, whether you've been married for years, in the middle of it all, just starting out, or contemplating making that lifelong commitment. This book provides whatever it is you need to see as examples of loving marriages; it provides hope that marriages can last a lifetime and remain full of love. The book will make you laugh hysterically until your cheeks hurt, but it will also bring tears to your eyes as you read through the journey of each couples love story and how they made their marriage an everlasting love. It the perfect book and a great wedding present!

A MUST Read!,
This review is from: Project Everlasting: Two Bachelors Discover the Secrets of America's Greatest Marriages (Hardcover)
There are not enough wonderful things I can say about this book. Within the stories of each successful couple, the secrets to a truly great marriage are reavealed.
Much more interesting to read than some manual by an 'expert' the honesty, love and devotion shown by these couples has the power to inspire anyone to WANT TO be a better spouse. This book also serves as a reminder that while so many couples have kids and get stuck in the role of 'parent first, roommate second' after the kids are grown its just you and your mate. The book mentions the couples as having kids, but they never take on the starring role. It always comes down to just the two of them. If you think your marriage is good, read this book and understand how amazing it really can be!

"Pencils in the hand of God" (Mother Teresa),
By
This review is from: Project Everlasting: Two Bachelors Discover the Secrets of America's Greatest Marriages (Hardcover)
As one of the couples selected to be featured in this "inspired" work, we are greatly humbled. Mat Boggs and Jason Miller have met Mother Teresa's challenge and "written a love letter to the world" by doing four years of research and writing to finish this work of love. They have run the race and finished it, freely giving up over four years of their lives to do so. I just finished reading the book and found myself laughing, crying, and blessing the authors as I read it. It will bless young and old, newly weds, long time weds, those planning to wed, and even friendships. We have ordered fifteen copies to give as gifts. This book will bless anyone who reads it!

Get ready to be blown away by some really great insight!!,

The real, nitty-gritty, down to earth, basic nut 'n bolts of what a true relationship is based on is what this book hits right on the bullseye. There are no "fantasy", "rose colored glasses" here. And what is so amazing is the variety of differences in marriage types but that still make it work and have the "happy ever after"... just not the way you envision.
This is a must read - and then tell everyone else to read it - for both husbands and wives; girlfriends and boyfriends; and especially the single hopefuls. Heck, I had a group over and we all sat and watched the DVD together!

This review is from: Project Everlasting: Two Bachelors Discover the Secrets of America's Greatest Marriages (Paperback)
I've always been a list maker of all the attributes I want in a mate. I've grilled friends and family with long term marriages trying to find that secret pattern and how to find "the One". I was terrified of getting it wrong so when I read this book I was prepared to finally learn how happy couples found each other and made their love last. I knew I'd be able to apply it to my life and questions. What this book did instead was blow my standards out of the water. What it taught me is there is no rhyme or reason to love and as annoying as that was it was so freeing. Each relationship is it's own thing, as individual as the people in it, to be successful or fail. There's no secret signs to look for, no personality tests, backgrounds, or shared beliefs that will guarantee happiness and that means there's no unknown mistakes. This book taught me that love is hard but so worth it. It helped me along the way to making my final decision to choose the guy I married. I was able to realize that the "deal breakers" were only what I couldn't accept. Read this book, ditch the romance comedies, get a dose of reality and realize that lasting love is up to you, it's not elusively in the stars.

Useful For Discussion And Self Examination,
This review is from: Project Everlasting: Two Bachelors Discover the Secrets of America's Greatest Marriages (Hardcover)
While I agree on that message the book conveys would be considered 'common sense', I am continuously amazed at how little common sense I encounter in the world at large. There are too many couples who rush into marriage without considering that the commitment they are entertaining is larger than themselves.
I think the book serves as a tool for use in self examination and reflection, hopefully leading to honest conversations. It's a shame for someone to grow up only after vows are exchanged and families are hurt. My parents were married for 55 years until death parted them. I hope to do at least as well. Consider giving this to engaged couples or using it along with marriage preparation.

I've been recommending "Project Everlasting" to all of my friends, whether single, in a serious relationship, or married. For a single twenty-something like me, the stories of the couples in this book are ones of hope and possibility, demonstrating everything that marriage can and should be when two people are genuinely committed. I think what Mat Boggs and Jason Miller have done in collecting these stories is to highlight all the best things of which human beings are capable. The lessons they've captured are invaluable, whether a person is called to marriage or not; to be able to love in the way that these couples have learned to - with a selfless determination - is the greatest thing that we can strive for in this life.
The book is very well written, and Mat and Jason have an open, honest, and engaging way of taking you right along with them on their journey. This is a book that draws enormous amounts of wisdom from a series of personal journeys - those of the couples in marriage, and those of these two bachelors, discovering exactly what it is about marriage that is so worth waiting for, and so worth the effort that it clearly takes! |
