The Sound of the Future,
By DJAnimosity (Columbus, OH) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Project Human (Audio CD)
Dieselboy, the foremost drum and bass DJ in the US, has always been about the futuristic, dark sound, and this breathtaking release is no exception. "Project HUMAN" begins with an off-the-hook intro, the mix dives straight into techstep futuristic mayhem, briefly giving props to the hip-hop sound on track #3, then delving deep into a dark robotic, chaotic, digital maelstrom. This mix has some of the sickest basslines you'll ever hear, and is mixed in absolutely seamless fashion. The second CD of the set (which, for some reason, is the only samples Amazon sees to fit to include with this release), "Side Project" contains 6 original Dieselboy cuts, and doesn't disappoint. There's some real talent on display here, complete with the same dark futuristic sound as the mixed CD portion. Dieselboy has compiled his best release yet with "Project HUMAN" and proves why he is the leading drum 'n bass DJ in the US, if not the world. An original sound, coupled with sick beats, equals a perfect release.

Dieselboy has matured, for sure. This album uses more than your stock snare & hat to keep the groove. The bass track on some of the earlier albums *moves* and drives. Some effects applied to the drum track also add to the motion and the rhythm. Rarely boring (like most D&B) and almost never annoying (except for the occasional vocal stuff) this album just keeps going and going. A definite "owner" for any D&B fans, and for those just getting bridging into drums&bass, you might want to check this one out.

sick mixing, sick trax,
By "urbnsoulja" (Paris, France) - See all my reviews

Project Human could be one of the most eagerly anticipated mix cds on the US drum and bass scene. As usual, the Dieselboy has surpassed himself and transcended all prior existing facets of drum and bass. Since his first mix tape, he has always been pushing the limit of drum and bass taking it to higher levels, with harder basslines, sicker highs and the most impressive and tightest cuts around. Like on all the preceeding mix tapes, Dieselboy on Projet:HUMAN is one thing: Flawless. He has kept his own style throughout the mix while venturing out take his tek-step lineup to new heights with the obvious trance and hip hop influence. Mind you this is no UK, Marky or Hype D n' B, this not for the faint of heart. This is the mark of the US scene, a scene that is the hard hitting future of drum and bass. Big up yourself, Dieselboy. Respect.

Strong mix, but 2nd CD doesn't cut it,

American drum-n-bass DJs don't get as much respect as they should, and Dieselboy more than most. Here he crafts a strong, consistent set that's pretty dark wihtout being morbid, and if he had just released that first disc, this would be a much sytronger overall record. As it is, the extra remixes onthe second disc don't satisfy as much as some of the first disc (which has it's just-average moments, but clearly more good than bad), and you won't likely be playing anything off of it after a couple of listens. By contrast, the first disc has a lot more flavors than the average d-n-b compilation (like J. Majik's and Goldie's 1-note compilations earlier this year), so you'll find something worthwhile no matter how you like your d-n-b.Not for newbies per se; some of it is straight hardcore d-n-b, but a definite worthwhile purchase for fans of d-n-b.

Dieselboy does it... again?,
By "faithinlogic" (South Florida) - See all my reviews

As a DJ myself I can say that this CD is simply THE representation of UK TechStep Drum N' Bass. The amazing part about it is that (somehow...) Dieselboy found the phattest, most hard-hitting, throat-gurgling basslines, tied them in with clanging hi-hats, threw in some hip-hop elements... all (of course) from the UK... and mixed it like nobody else can. This album has a quality that not many electronic albums share: it can be listened to in headphones, on a 2000 Watt car audio system, or on a 20,000 Watt Party system --in any case, its nothing short of amazing. Its not a question of whether you should buy it or not -- but more like what kind of system you should play it on.

After having this a week...still a masterpiece (and more!),
By Jonathan (Tampa, FL USA) - See all my reviews

OK, i've had this for a week and have not gotten the least bit tired of this CD. I've taken it everywhere i've gone and am in fact listening to it right now. I'm still exploring this wonderfully composed album, and still stand by my claim that this is a masterpiece. if i had to choose between burning an original composition of Beethoven or scratching the bottom of my "Project Human" CD, I would definitely choose the former.I'm sure Beethoven would too. Anyway, the music on this album is so fresh and hard. It's like nothing i've ever heard before. The listener gets deeply immersed into this "future" of "project human" thanks to excellently mixed tracks. Each track is a treasure in and of itself (more valuable than anything ever concieved of) except for track 2 on disck 2 (dylan + ink remix of subculture). when listening to "project human" cool images of sci fi, anime, and dark post apocolyptic cities pop in my mind where everyone is required to ride japanese ninja bikes and listen to electronic music (God willing...) but really, i've commented twice on this album and i usually wont even comment once on an album unless it is really good. The only way to make sure for yourself is to sample this. so i suggest you download "you must follow" by stratus (the hardest song in the whole set in my opinion)... in short: BUY THIS CD NOW!!!

projectHUMAN is as hostile as they come...,
By SpY2K (Midwest, USA, Earth) - See all my reviews

Most definantely DSL's best release to date... this one has it all, sick track selection, intro, outro, and continuous flicks of futurism. Technology fused with D&B, DieselStyle // Loaded full of new rmx's and VIPs, watch for Hostile (Kemal & Rob Data's new dub), as its the climax of this mix. Hold on tight as the basslines grow deeper and deeper as the mix goes on. The SIDEproject disk has gems like 'Follow the Leader' (the new 12") and a nice TeeBee Hive rmx. This is a tech-step futurism must have 2Disc, I highly recommend...

Thanks, but Human Addition is Not Necessary,
By Sean Dugan "Sean Dugan" (SEATTLE, WA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Project Human (Audio CD)
I've listened to most of Dieselboy's albulms and projectHUMAN is definitely not one of my favorites. While it is a solid release and this album has few of his best tracks on it, I find most of the tracks repetitive and boring and not listenable or groundbreaking.
Some D&B fans detest the other albums for trying to appeal to the more mainstream listener by being more progressive and using crazy sound effects. If you are such a listener then you will probably enjoy this album for sticking to D&B/jungle roots while layering in depth with lots of rap and vocal samples. Personally, I do not like vocals in this style of music, as I generally detest rap unless it's one of the best lyricists. projectHUMAN is an apt name for this experimental jungle beat with a street sound thanks to its human touch. Dungeon Master sent shivers down my spine the first time I heard it and is up there with albums like Hold your Color as one of the best D&B disks of all time. But I literally have to skip some tracks on here. If you want a Dieselboy CD just for it to sound cool slamming in your car, get The 6ixth Session instead. I give it three stars.

I'm a believer!,

...give me a second to catch my breath. For someone who isn't huge on drum and bass, this CD absolutely blew my mind! I feel like Damian Higgins has not only introduced me to this genre, but at the same time took me to another planet. Right off the bat with the "movie-guy" voice introducing this CD as if it were a movie, I was immediatly taken to a world not much different than that in Terminator 2. Now about the music. DnB, like I said is new to me, I am still skeptical on buying more, but just for sheer enjoyment, this was memorable. Beats were thrown around like DJ Dieselboy had something to get off his chest. Backbeats were intense, but not nearly as intense as his almost scientific way of laying down perfect rhythm on top of perfect rhythm. The highlight of the album is undoubtedly track #9 "Harder and Faster", which was geniously placed halfway through, seemed to tell me, "this CD is serious, no BS, get ready for the rest of it, you'll need prepartion." Go buy this album, disappointment isn't a question. Note: Hold on to your seats and don't forget to breathe, you'll return to reality in about an hour.
