5.0 out of 5 stars 92.5% on PMP (185 out of 200)
This is an excellent book that covers all aspects of PMP exam. But make sure you read this in conjuction with PMBOK. After reading each PMBOK chapter and I read the corresponding chapter in this book. The author has done a great job in explaining the concepts presented in PMBOK. 3.0 out of 5 stars Great Introductory Book Only
When I read through the PMBOK, I found it hard to read. After reading this book, it explained things in a clear and simple way in how to apply each topic. YET, the test questions were very easy. I found Rita Mulcahy's book had more difficult questions more geared toward the exam. So, I read both books and got a firm understanding of the topics.

5.0 out of 5 stars 92.5% on PMP (185 out of 200), February 3, 2005
This review is from: PMP Project Management Professional Study Guide (Certification Press) (Paperback)
This is an excellent book that covers all aspects of PMP exam. But make sure you read this in conjuction with PMBOK. After reading each PMBOK chapter and I read the corresponding chapter in this book. The author has done a great job in explaining the concepts presented in PMBOK. You don't need any more study materials than these two books. Make sure to do all the practice tests. The practice tests with this book has some very good collection of questions. The questions on the final exam was interestingly on the very similar lines.

Addtion of few subjective questions at the end of each chapter may further help. As a matter of fact, I created a list of subjective questions of my own based on this book that really helped me solidify my concepts and during the last hours before the exam.

My final result 92.5% on PMP (185 out of 200); Here is the break up.

Intitating Project: 94%

Planning the Project: 91%

Executing the Project: 90%

Controlling the project: 93%

Closing the project: 100%

Professional Responsibility: 93%

Thanks

Sanjeev

5.0 out of 5 stars Great study aid to help in studying for the PMP exam!, April 22, 2004
By
This review is from: PMP Project Management Professional Study Guide (Certification Press) (Paperback)
I limited myself to buying on one study book for the PMP exam (in conjunction with the PMBOK). At a local bookstore I compared this book with Rita Mulcahy's book and several others. I found Joseph Phillips book to be the most to my liking. I was impressed with the "exam tips" that were buried throughout the book to point out important info. I took the PMP exam today and passed on my first try. The format of the exam and the questions on it were very similar to those exam questions in this book and on the free cd. This book helped explain many concepts to me that I felt the PMBOK did an inadequate job of doing. My biggest complaint with the PMBOK is that it doesn't dedicate any time to explaining concepts or stressing their importance.
I would STRONGLY recommend this book to anyone looking for a study aid for the PMP.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good book, November 30, 2004

I prepared myself for the exam using PMBOK with this study guide (and I completed ESI's PMP Exam Prep course). Reading a chapter in PMBOK, then reading related chapter in this book, then practicing test (from ESI's PMP Exam Prep course material). It worked for me, I succeded on my first try.

This book helps to "interpret" the PMBOK. Well written, easy to read, the exam watch sections are unique. However my opinion is that the practice test questions in the book and on the companion CD are too easy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Look no further, July 22, 2004
This review is from: PMP Project Management Professional Study Guide (Certification Press) (Paperback)
I cleared my exam today and got a score of 161/200. I recommend reading the PMBOK guide and this book side by side. Mr Phillips did a fantastic job of letting you know what to expect on the examination. The questions from the CD are so much similar to what you can expect on the exam. If you are doing well on the practice exams, then you can be sure of passing the exam at first try. I have not used any other study materials other than the PMBOK guide and Mr. Phillips book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good companion with PMBOK, June 30, 2004
By
This review is from: PMP Project Management Professional Study Guide (Certification Press) (Paperback)
It is a very good companion book with PMBOK. You can read them side-by-side as this book elaborates all the concepts in PMBOK + general management concepts (like motivation, conflict management, etc.) which are not in PMBOK but you will be tested on the exam. I read PMBOK once, 2 times on this book and I passed the exam.

This is an excellent book for prepping for the PMP Exam. Period.

Every chapter in the book corresponds with the PMBOK for quick reference. You can read the PMBOK and then read a chapter from Mr. Phillips' book and understand what the PMBOK is trying to say. His book is easy to follow and with 700 PMP practice questions you can't go wrong.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pass the CPMP exam on the first try? This is the book!!!, October 7, 2004
This review is from: PMP Project Management Professional Study Guide (Certification Press) (Paperback)
I was able to pass the PMI CPMP exam on the first try after 1.5 months of study using this book and PMI's PMBOK 2000. The companion CD-ROM was excellent since it had the complete book in PDF format for easy searching and practice exams to put ones knowledge to the test.

The paper copy of the book needs a more complete index. Also, there were a few errors in the self-test answers of the book. However, the overall quality of the material is excellent.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Study Guide -- Passed the PMP on First Attempt, September 22, 2004
This review is from: PMP Project Management Professional Study Guide (Certification Press) (Paperback)
Mr. Phillips' book clarifies the PMI PMP exam objectives and completely prepares readers for the challenging test. Where the PMI PMBOK evokes confusion through vague descriptions, the "PMP Project Management Professional Study Guide" by Joe Phillips adds detail and insight. I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Phillips through a company-sponsored training class. He's a true professional legitimately concerned with his students' learning, and with a sincere respect for the Project Management Institute. I recently passed my PMP exam on the first attempt, and recommend Joe Phillips' book to anyone wishing to do the same.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: PMP Project Management Professional Study Guide (Certification Press) (Paperback)
I used Joe Phillip's PMP Study Guide in preparation for the PMP examination. It was of significant help in translating the PMBOK into real world examples and aiding me in passing the PMP exam. I used Phillip's book in addition to Rita Mulcahy's and found both good, but Phillip's did a better job of making the material approachable and also included an excellent sample test on CD.
