Book Description

"...a taut thriller...with an ideal fusion of wile and wit." - Kirkus Reviews. From a Pulitzer Prize-winning author.

Best Indie Books of 2012 Finalist
- Kindle Book Review.

Project Moses
is the best-selling bioterrorism thriller filled with romance, suspense and humor that kicked off the Enzo Lee Mystery Thriller Series. Enzo Lee, 37, a burned out reporter, has forsaken investigative reporting on the East Coast to churn out feature fluff in San Francisco. He likes his North Beach apartment, steps away from his Chinatown roots. Running, tai chi, great food, women who are attracted to his exotic looks. Life is good.

Then, Lee's comfortable life is shaken when he is ordered to cover the unexplained deaths of a local judge and prosecutor. Intrigued by the connection, and the judge's attractive niece, Sarah Armstrong, Lee begins to uncover a bioterrorism scandal whose perpetrators - including government officials and Silicon Valley titans - will kill to conceal.

When Lee and Sarah become targets, the question becomes whether the pair can evade their hunters and piece together the story before their time runs out. Project Moses is set in San Francisco, New York and Silicon Valley. By a Pulitzer Prize-winning author.

Project Moses is the first book in the Enzo Lee Mystery Thriller Series. The second is Divine Fury available now on Amazon and other booksellers.

Editorial Reviews

Review

Kirkus Reviews:

Lowe's taut thriller is fronted by a likable protagonist who retains his sense of humor.  The story's long-reaching conspiracy is elaborate but never overwhelming, so readers can appreciate the stockpiling of secrets, elusive characters and murders committed to preserve those secrets.

A thriller with an ideal fusion of wile and wit.

Midwest Book Review:

"Project Moses" is a fast-paced and hard to put down thriller. - Recommended

Project Moses kept me engaged and in suspense from page 1 till the very end of the book. The author does a great job of drawing you into the storyline by giving the reader a complex but believable main character and by offering very specific details about the time and place of events (i.e. whether in San Francisco or New York, etc). There are so many unexpected twists and sub-plots but not so much that the reader gets confused. The storyline (which deals with genetically modified foods and other substances) has a bit of a david and goliath feel to it, which of course has you rooting for the little guy. It's definitely a good, easy read and I highly recommend this book. Please note that I was given a complimentary copy of this book to review.

5.0 out of 5 stars FAST-PACED THRILLER May 26, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
Wow! Loved this fast-paced thriller with all the twists and turns. The main character, reporter Enzo Lee, was an unusual protaganist and very well fleshed out by the author as were the other characters. The writing in this book was crisp with wonderful descriptions and interesting characters. An unusual plot and lots of action kept me reading into the night to see how it ended. I see an Enzo Lee series coming. At least I hope so.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great Fast-Paced Thriller April 23, 2012
By dpappas
Format:Kindle Edition
This book had a little bit of everything I enjoy; mystery, suspense, romance, and action. My favorite thing about the book had to have been the mix of mystery, suspense, and action. I wasn't completely sold on the romance between Enzo and Sarah, it felt forced and underdeveloped. I was hooked on this book and couldn't put it down for most of it. I didn't care much for the ending, it didn't feel like enough resolution to me. Overall it was a good book and I would recommend it to others.

Very dated. Payphones? Way too much detail. I don't need to know every piece of clothing everyone is wearing and every little detail about every room and structure. Read more

3.0 out of 5 stars It was just OK
Project Moses started out to be really good. But then it sort of dragged through the middle, and ended kind of dumb.

More About the Author

One of my first investigative stories was for a smaller newspaper in Arizona. We had been told that doctors at a rural county hospital that treated poor patients were withholding treatment for pregnant women unless they agreed to be sterilized.

My partner and I spent six weeks knocking on doors in poor neighborhoods in sweltering heat, at times finding ourselves outside shacks that looked more like a place for animals than people. We found the practice was well known in that community, wide spread and had been going on for years. Nurses, including some who admitted pressuring women in labor at doctors' behest, said a supervisor had implemented the policy to reduce welfare costs. The practice was halted after our stories ran.

That was one of the more remarkable projects of my 12-year career as a journalist, most of it as an investigative reporter. Along the way, I won a Pulitzer Prize for investigative work, covered riots and helped on a story that ended a presidential campaign. I've since changed careers, becoming a Silicon Valley lawyer for a time and then switching gears again to manage and help start young tech companies.

All this is fodder for the mystery thriller novels I write, starting with Project Moses and Divine Fury. Both of these feature Enzo Lee, a former investigative reporter turned feature writer at a San Francisco newspaper. Half Chinese, Enzo grew up in Chinatown, lives in nearby North Beach and enjoys the city, great food, lovely women and leaving the stories behind him when he exits the newsroom each day. Of course, he finds himself drawn into some nasty conspiracies and his past expertise comes into play.

I'm a life-long fan of mystery novels from the Hardy Boys through LeCarre, MacDonald, Grisham, Hiaasen, Child and many others. In terms of influences, I look to Grisham and Child for suspense. I admire Michael Crichton's use of science and social trends in his work. And, I always appreciated when Dick Francis took the time to research some industry or profession and included that informational bonus in his books.

I live outside San Francisco and that is the setting for the Enzo Lee series. Among the interesting facets of this area - which include the amazing mix of ethnicity and life styles - is that it may have the highest concentration of food snobs on earth. Everyone's an expert at whatever price range they can afford. I confess to this as well and there is a lot of food in my books. If nothing else, hopefully every reader can enjoy that.

I'm happy to hear from readers and other authors. I can be reached at robert@robertblowe.com My website is www.robertblowe.com
