As the above reviewer states, this book stands on its own. Although Project U.L.F. Reacquisition is a sequel (and I had just finished the first Project U.L.F. book), even if someone was to read it first they could without being lost. As in the first book, Mr. Clark certainly has a wild imagination... again he leaves enough details out so that the reader is drawn in on a creative level "finishing" off the unknown variables (whether that be the unidentified life forces, the futuristic technologies that haven't even been invented yet, or the cast of characters); this may put off the "lazy" reader who wants every sordid detail spelled out and spoonfed but for someone who fancies their imagination this is an interactive treat; mind you it's not quite the 3D Holo's found in Clarks 24th (or is it 25th?) century but it's definitely experiential and mind-expanding, to say the least! I enjoyed how this book like the first had a good balance of deeper meanings available such as speciesm, aging & environmental and simple primal drives such as hunger, greed & power; all extractable if one wishes or they can be glossed over. My only complaint was that after finishing the book there was nothing left to look forward to (actually that's not true as the 3rd installment is being written).

Wyatt Dorren has retired from alien trapping, leaving the Interplanetary Zoological Park (I.Z.P.) to start a family. But when a fanatical group breaks into the zoo, releasing its deadly inhabitants, Wyatt is the only man qualified to coordinate a reconnaissance and rescue effort. While Wyatt and IZP employee and protégé Chris Gault track down the escaped alien creatures, police officers Ed Lieberwits and Ed Wood track down the people responsible for the mayhem. But the detectives discover a shocking mystery behind the break-in, one that began years ago.

I can't say enough about how much I enjoyed this one. Clark's characters are sympathetic and engaging. And the aliens are scary and unpredictable and loose in Chicago. While this novel is a sequel of sorts, it's also a solid standalone. And as before, this latest installment is an action-packed, nail-biting, thrill ride. The book reads like movie, the action jumping from scene to scene between the various characters. And the non-stop suspense builds throughout the novel, to its exciting conclusion. It's a fantastic, engrossing story that any scifi fan will enjoy. Don't miss this or Clark's debut novel Project U.L.F.

Sometimes there is a let down on a second book by a newer author, but not this time. I thoroughly enjoyed Project U.L.F and believe Reacquisition to be just as great a read.

I won't spoil any plot points, but it should be noted that the 2nd book can stand alone if you haven't read the first book, although I strongly suggest you should. The action is engaging, the writing crisp and you will find yourself unable to put the book down. I read a wide variety of genres, with sci fi not always being the largest group, but think this book has something for everyone.

I see from Mr. Clark's twitter account that a 3rd book is on the way and I eagerly await its arrival. I strongly suggest you give this author a try, you won't be disappointed.
