Editorial Reviews

The Blues Project was one of the most innovative and influential bands of the 1960s. Rising from the vibrant Greenwich Village music scene, the New York quintet created a visionary fusion of electric blues, folk-rock, jazz and psychedelia, and delivered it with gritty, effortless expertise. Although the Blues Project didn't stay together long enough to cash in on the musical innovations that they pioneered, they served as an inspiration for subsequent generations of roots-conscious rockers, and the band's small but seminal body of work remains beloved by '60s rock aficionados.

1966's Projections is generally regarded as the Blues Project's peak as a recording unit. The only studio album to feature the band's classic lineup of keyboardist Al Kooper, guitarists Danny Kalb and Steve Katz, bassist Andy Kulberg and drummer Roy Blumenfeld, Projections is a potent manifestation of the Blues Project's eclectic approach and a persuasive showcase for the band members' varied talents.

At the time of its release, Projections became a fixture on the emerging underground FM album-rock radio format, and such enduring tracks as the garagey Kooper-sung rocker "Wake Me, Shake Me," Kalb's epic blues showcase "Two Trains Running," Katz's resonant take on Bob Lind's folk-rock standard "Cheryl's Going Home" and the spacey instrumental "Flute Thing," featuring bassist Kulberg on the title instrument.

Sundazed's new vinyl edition of this seminal LP features Projections' rare and unique original mono mix, along with complete original cover art, and is pressed on high-definition vinyl for optimum sound quality.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best--EVER!, June 13, 2003

The original Blues Project's only studio album "Projections" is easily one of the best rock albums to come out of the 60's. Though it is very hard to find in it's original form, it can easily be obtained by purchasing the "Anthology" CD that is offered by Amazon.com. Disk 2 of the "Anthology" contains the entire "Projections" album in its original song sequence. The rest of "Anthology" is also well worth your money, since it is loaded with their best material live, plus numerous rarities previously not available. Go there NOW to get a copy of one of the top 10 ablums to come out of the 60's.

4.0 out of 5 stars hidden treasure, January 10, 2004

Psychedelic fans, dont be put off by the fact they were called the Blues Project, they didn't play blues all the time. They did in fact make (for 1966) some very advanced psychedelia. This album is worth getting for Steve's Song (track 2) alone. Flute Thing is majestic and if you really want to treat yourself buy The Complete Monterey Festival dvd box and see the very swirly psychedelic live version. I rate this album up there with the best late 60,s stuff. Do yourself a favour and buy the anthology as you will get all of Projections plus great tracks like No Time Like The Right Time, Gentle Dreams and a whole disc of their earlier blues stuff.

1.0 out of 5 stars ALL THESE TRACKS ARE AVAILABLE ON "ANTHOLOGY", July 21, 2006

There's no reason to pay big bucks for this out-of-print CD, as all of the tracks are available on the "Anthology" 2CD... and, in far superior remastered audio quality than on this disc.
