This review is from: Prokofiev: Peter & the Wolf, Cinderella (excerpts from Ballet) / Neeme Jarvi (Audio CD)
Not many CDs have 64 tracks! This one is ideal if you want to be able to cue precise points in Peter and the Wolf. I found it helpful as a classroom music teacher.Prokofiev's wife does a great job in narrating the story. She sounds like she is enjoying reliving the tale which she must have first heard 40 years before this recording was made. The orchestra is in fine form, and produces an exciting performance, with a thrilling dynamic range. The accompanying work, Cinderella, is not one of my favourite Prokofiev works, but the music is pleasant enough. My favourite part is the extract from his opera, The Love for Three Oranges, which includes the well-known March from that opera.
