Editorial Reviews

Product Description

The debut recording from the superb young pianist, who, at the age of just eighteen, won a sensational victory in the 2009 London International Piano Competition, with an electrifying performance of Prokofiev s Piano Concerto no. 3. Born in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, Behzod Abduraimov is already a mature concert artist who thrills audiences wherever he appears including an Asian tour with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra under Vladimir Ashkenazy, where he was dubbed by the press: The Western Lang Lang . An extraordinary combination of youthful passion and an astonishing technique gives his performances an irresistible, life-enhancing energy. His Decca Classics debut album showcases his passionate performance style through the concept of Danses diaboliques, including Horowitz s incredible version of Saint-Saëns/Liszt Danse macabre wildly virtuosic pieces, which perfectly capture the white-knuckle ride that is Behzod Abduraimov s style.

I bought this after NPR Music selected it as one of the best classical music albums of the year. I'd never heard of Abduraimov before but it was definitely well worth the purchase. I'm not a professional music reviewer (simply someone who listen to a lot of classical music, especially piano works) so I mostly judge albums by how they make me feel and whether I want to listen to the album again, hopefully many times. This is the sort of albums that will uplift you by the prowess of the young pianist. Abduraimov does marvels without being "showy". He also chose very good pieces of music in my opinion - not the usual workhorses, but pieces that are not completely ignored by the mainstream either. It's wonderful to see a young musician take such a strong start in his career. He deserves to become a household name.

All I can say is that everything written in description and in the reviews of this young outstanding pianist is true. Such a natural pianism, artistic expression and extraordinary energy. Prokofiev 6th sonata is the best possible to imagine.

Abduraimov made the Prokofiev Sonata No 6, sound wonderful, I feel as though I am in the Concert Hall with Abduraimov in person. This was made possible by the sheer quality of the CD.

Thank you.
