If you have been diagnosed with Pelvic Organ Proplapse-(POP) - as I have-you will want to read this book. Dr. Hoyte has clearly explained in layman's terms what prolapse is and what your options are for repair. Not only does Dr. Hoyt take you through a step by step explanation of the differences between cyctocele, rectocele and enterocele he also clearly explains the daVinci surgical system and the advantages over abdominal or vaginal repair. But more importantly, after you have read the book, (122 pgs)viewed the pictures(they can be upsetting)and studied the diagrams, and read the FAQ section, you will have gained invaluable knowledge about your body that will enable you to ask your doctor the right questions to help you determine what is the best treatment option for you.
This book will help you become an active participant with your doctor in the treatment plan that YOU feel most comfortable with. Dr. Hoyte streses that treatment is available and you do NOT have to live with POP (a good abbreviation as that's what it feels like) if you choose not to.
Don't hesitate to take the book with you to your next Dr. appt.
I had purchased this book in the hopes of learning more about surgical and nonsurgical approaches to prolapse repair and management. I was very disappointed.
The first part of the book describes and discusses treatment of prolapsed. It is EXTREMELY repetitive. I can only guess that the author was just trying to fill the pages to turn his information pamphlet into something that he could pass off as an actual book. Or else he believes that his audience consists of women with extremely low IQs and that repeating the same thing over and over and over to them might help them to understand it.
After doing this and briefly brushing over some other treatment options, the author moves on to his purpose – promoting the DaVinci (robot assisted) Sacrocolpopexy. He refers to it as the ‘Gold Standard in permanent prolapse repair”. There is a bit of bias there because the person making the claim is the same person performing the surgery. Other than using the word ‘permanent’ he does not say how long the results of this surgery can be expected to last. Buyer beware - Recent studies suggest that seven year outcomes after this surgery are poor and that the risk of complications are as high or higher than other prolapse repair procedures.
Bottom line – don’t confuse propaganda with information and don’t buy this book. If you are interested in the procedure, google it. Read what everyone has to say about it, not just the opinion of the guy who is making millions off of it.
As most women will do, I had lifted very heavy items and injured myself. I am at the age where I still believe I am 30 but my body screams 60! Although I am a registered nurse with over 40 years in nursing, I have little knowledge of the newest and safest surgical procedures for repair of prolapse. I found this book on Amazon and I ordered it immediately. This book is made for every woman to read! It explains in simple language and, with wonderful pictures, all about your choices for repairing your "lady parts" and described the benefits of the newest robotic surgical operation. My husband read it too! Now he understands why I need this type of repair. I highly recommend buying this book to any woman and, for any man who loves his woman. After reading and learning you can feel good about your decision to have a prolapse repair! I am very lucky to live in Florida. I was just was examined by Lennox Hoyte, MD at his office in Sarasota. I complimented him for publishing this book! I made my decision. I choose the robotic da Vinci surgery to repair my prolapsed female anatomy! Thanks Dr. Hoyte for this lesson!

Dr. Hoyte has revolutionized the prolapse surgery field. This book was presented to my Mom and myself by my sister. Mom needed the procedure. We all 3 read it and because of Dr. Hoyte's ability to explain things clearly, simply and concisely, our 76 year-old Mom was able to feel completely comfortable going ahead with the robotic procedure versus the typical sling-style, much longer recovery version of this same surgery. Mom had a severe, long-term prolapse with a possible poor outcome, and because of Dr. Hoyte's revolutionary technique, 3 months later, Mom is completely recovered, symptom-free and living life as normal. The book helped prepare her for the consultation, preop procedures, surgery and recovery. She was able to ask informed questions when she met Dr. Hoyte, the diagrams in the book helped her understand exactly what the Dr. explained at the consultation visit, and put her fears as ease. What an incredible asset the book has been! We are so thankful for his ability both as a surgeon,as an author and as a person. We highly recommend this book to any woman contemplating surgery for prolapse repair.
