This is the best air CPU cooler I've used. Excellent performance and solid mounting design. Installation was easy and very secure. I use a pair of Scythe Slip Stream 68 CFM 120mm fans for a push/pull set-up. Along with Arctic Cooling MX-4 compound this set-up keeps my i5-760 running very cool at 3.7GHz. 28C idle and 50C full load after hours of prime95. I've had the i5 stable at 4.2GHz 24/7 using this set-up, but that was overkill for my needs. The Rev B is huge and looks awesome. It's 6.25 inches tall so make sure it fits. It has plenty of room inside a Thermaltake ARMOR+ case. I was considering the Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus CPU cooler for half the price, but the performance, looks and build quality of the Prolimatech won me over. The Cooler Master is a good alternative if you don't wanna spend the extra 30 bucks. Overall I'm very happy with this cooler and would recommend it.

The Megahalems is very well constructed and made of quality materials. The installation kit makes it very sturdy with a great design. I installed this beast on my i7 980X CPU with a 3400 RPM Delta fan and it keeps my CPU nice and cool. I haven't seen my CPU get to 60C under a lot of stress, which is pretty cool. It does its job and it does it in a superb way. If you need air cooling, the Megahalems is simply one of the best, if not the Best you can get. Highly recommended!

Bought because of several excellent reviews including [...]Took a bit of time to figure out on installation that the two top mounting brackets had to be facing inward rather than outward. Once that was sorted out, the rest of the install went smoothly. Works well cooling a Xeon W3530 (almost identical to i7 930, just includes error correcting code (ECC) memory support). Overclocked to 3.74G, with a single Scythe S-Flex SFF21E fan, CPU voltage 1.23125V, running 24/7. Idle temperatures about 31C, full load temperatures about 69C. Very tall heatsink, just fits inside Antec P180 case. Very satisfied with solid build and cooling performance.

I have a custom rig with 2x1GB ATI Radeon HD5770 cards, Gigabyte X58A motherboard, 12 Gigs of RAM, Blu-Ray drives, 950w power supply and an i7-930 overclocked from 2.80 gHz to 4.18 gHz and I run TONS of processor intensive games and software and my processor never goes over 40 degrees farenheit and on average just for daily operations it's usually blowing ice cubes around 35. This cooler is absolutely phenomenal and does a great job at keeping my rig cool...the stock cpu cooler that comes with the newer processors suck and if you plan to overclock, then the megahalems is an absolute must have, the price tag is well worth the performance. I also highly recommend setting up for a push-pull configuration and making sure that the dimensions of your case will support this cooler, I have an antec 900 case and I had to snap off one of the pins for the side fan to get it to fit.

Coolest CPU Cooler,
By
This review is from: Prolimatech CPU Cooler for Intel Socket 1156, 1366 and 775 Megahalems Rev. B (Silver) (Personal Computers)
This CPU cooler is fantastic. I use it in my rig: Q6600 quad-core, Asus P5Q-E mobo, Antec 900 case. Even here in HI (not air-conditioned), temps are very low. I use it with the Noctua NF-P12-1300. It's very quiet. What's unique about this cooler is the retention mechanism -- it's made from CNC-milled pieces of aluminum -- no stamped metal crap. The mechanism is secure and you can carefully adjust the tension (pressure) of the cooler against the CPU. Yes, the cooler is a bit more expensive than its competition -- Thermalright Ultra 120 eXtreme, Scythe Ninja 2, Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus, etc. However, I believe that the retention mechanism alone puts it in a class of its own. BTW, you will need to remove your mobo for installation. However that is the case with most premium CPU coolers.

I have been active in computers both privately and professionally since 1993, and therefore built, repaired, and upgraded a very large amount of PC's. These have been of course both personnel machines as well as ones in corporate environments. I have to say this Prolimatech product is flawless from what I have seen. Although a bit on the expensive side it seems to me to be well worth it. The highest temperature currently on my CPU (i7 930) is 35c, whereas before with multiple applications running this was generally 8-12c higher so roughly a 10 degree temperature drop. The base was flawless and smooth when received. I still need to map out and reapply my Arctic Silver Ceramique, because different cores usually run 1 up or down from the others there is never more than that increase or decrease temperature wise.I have to say I would use this specific cooler over any other on the market. While the big tri fan Noctua cooler may come within a few degrees up or down of this cooler the space needed for it seems to be to much to me for it, especially with regard to it's performance. This Prolimatech unit was also very easy top to bottom to install, and has the best base connection unit I personally have used. The setup is in a Thermaltake Element S case which already has great airflow. This has just enhanced it considerably. I also run a ATI 5870/5850 Crossfire combination which is of course up and down clocked to match in operational speed, and the CPU has also been bench marked up and down clock to assure stability. I won this PC from a contest on hothardware dot com. Then added the extra GPU and did the overclocking work myself generally from the BIOS level! I would buy another one of these without question!

Easy to fix the spring loaded screw problem,

I own one of these coolers and had the same problem many others have had with the two spring loaded screws not fitting the holes. The problem is just on the top edge of the holes. Just take a drill bit that is larger than the holes and shave a tiny amount of metal from the edge. Only takes a few rotations of the drill... one or two quick squeezes of the trigger. The screws go in fine after that. Takes two minutes to fix and is much easier than sending the whole thing back.

I did a TON of research trying to determine what CPU cooler to pick up. It came down to the Mega and 1 or 2 others. This cooler by itself is a little less expensive than the others UNTIL you add in the fans you're inevitably going to want to add on.What I don't know...would some less expensive CPU coolers work as effectively as the Prolimatech Megahalems? No idea. What I do know...The Mega did exactly what I had hoped it would. I didn't run prime95 or anything, I simply measured temps pre and post mega in the same environment for 90 mins (give'r take). Under the same test, my temps were literally 20 degress cooler (90 minutes of game play [max settings] along w/ surfing and streaming music). I was typically in the mid-high 60's, low 70's w/ the stock intel cooler. That dropped to 48+/- w/ the Megahalem. Can I say that others WON'T do this good of a job? No. But I can tell you the Mega (w/ a couple of nice fans) absolutely will do the job.

I built 2 identical computers with using this cooler and it worked great in both installations. Installing it in an Antec Nine Hundred Two case worked ok, but I had to break the plastic clip that is supposed to hold the side-fan for the case to get the cooler to fit inside.During installation I ended up stripping the screws on the mounting brackets for this heatsink (I think it was because I over-tightened, but I only had the issue on one installation). I contacted the manufacturer about it and they mailed me replacement mounting brackets at no cost. Great customer service! Besides that, I was able to get an Intel i7 950 from 3.07GHz up to 3813GHz with little effort. I've been running at this speed for 8 months now with no issues. I just had to keep my memory running at 800MHz (DDR3 1600 speed).

Very easy to install. Manufacturer doesn't have a motherboard compatibility list but it fits fine on an Asus P8P67 WS Revolution. There's about a 1/4" clearance from the first video card slot. It's pretty tall (height above motherboard) so you may have a clearance issue if you have a fan mounted to the side panel.
