This review is from: Prolimatech Megahalems Rev B. Intel CPU Heatsink (LGA 775 / 1156 / 1366) (AM2** / AM2+** / AM3**) (Personal Computers)
The description of this cooler is:
Prolimatech Megahalems Rev B. Intel CPU Heatsink (LGA 775 / 1156 / 1366) (AM2** / AM2+** / AM3**) What the vendor shipped was: Prolimatech Megahalems Rev B. Intel CPU Heatsink (LGA 775 / 1156 / 1366) And this was even missing one of the brackets shown in the picture. I did not look for the ** thinking it was just some funny terminology for the socket. Turns out, buried in something called a description way at the bottom of the page was a statement that more hardware was needed to mount to an AM3 motherboard but it did not say what was needed. The seller does not appear to have this hardware. There was no "People who bought this also bought AM2 adapter kit". I did eventually find the hardware at another vendor by Googling "Prolimatech AM2 Retention Mount Adapter Kit" This is not to say the cooler is bad, just misleading copy.

It's big. Almost big enough I gave it a 4 star review, but it works so well I couldn't subtract any points from this. I have an i7-920 on an Intel DX58SO motherboard, and I've got tall Corsair Dominator memory sticks. Because of the tall heatsinks on the Corsair RAM, I had to orient the heatsink in the non-classic direction. (It's blowing air from my video card down towards my power supply, as opposed to blowing from front of case towards back of case.) It didn't seem to affect performance. My idle temps dropped from 50C to 36C (122F to 97F). My fully loaded temps dropped from 77C to 60C (171F to 140F). Highly recommended unless you have a little case or its too packed in there.

I did extensive research on CPU coolers January 2010 for my new i7 rig I was building. [...] showed that the Megahalems outperformed all other air coolers on the market at that time. I was fully unprepared for the size of this cooler. MAKE CERTAIN THAT YOU MEASURE THE HEIGHT AVAILABLE IN YOUR CASE! Clearance is an issue but it worked fine in my full ATX case. Also make sure you buy accompanying fans of the correct size. The reason i'm writing this is because the otherwise flawless workmanship had one catch. No other reviews brought this to my attention, so it must not be common. There is a cross-member that physically holds the cooling tower to the motherboard backing plate, that two spring loaded screws go through. The holes in the plate were not drilled all the way through. I highly recommend this cooler, but if you buy it, do a dry fit test first. if your thumb screws do not move freely just use a hand drill and take the step out of the holes so the springs engage the cross-member.
Benchmarks for this cooler [...]
