I am a huge fan of lil wayne. i have all his albums and bought the carter 3 the day it came out. but honestly guys, this song is terrible. i mean, it's probably better than a lot of rock bands coming out lately but its still terrible sounding in comparison to the rest of weezy's music. i am a fan of all genres including rock (David Bowie, Radiohead, rage against the machine, wolfmother) but if this song is any indication of how rebirth will sound, my hopes for the album are very very low

I have to say that I'm not the biggest Lil Wayne fan. Not a hater in any way, but I'll say only a few of his tracks really grab me. This one though, the first time I heard it, I was not ready for it and it grabbed me instantly. Now, does Lil Wayne have the best singing voice? No. But this is taking rap n a new and welcome direction. I don't even think it's rap. It's his way of expressing rock and he pulls it off. Hardcore rock fans may feel differently, but those with an open mine and an ability to take music of any type should give this song a try.

A True "Rebirth" For Lil Wayne,
By
This review is from: Prom Queen (MP3 Download)
Before I say anything, I want to say that "Prom Queen" is a great song, and I would recommend it to any music love; not just rap/hip-hop fans, but anyone who enjoys music. Now...I have been a Lil Wayne fan since the Hot Boys still talked to each other. Tha Carter trilogy showed the world what Lil Wayne could do. "Prom Queen" is Lil' Wayne taking it to the next level. IT IS NOT A ROCK SONG nor did Lil' Wayne try to make it one. I love rap, but I also listen to rock and country; this song is something I have never heard before. Lil' Wayne, if you ever read this review, keep on doing you! Everyone else, get this song! And expect an album full of tracks similar to this one. His new album, "Rebirth" is due out around April, I believe.

Ok for those of you who don't know what modern rap is, it generally goes like this. You have a "rapper" who does the lyrics and then someone else puts the so called "music" together. I'm not saying that's how it's always done, but it is a lot of the time. If you've never noticed how repetitive rap songs are, maybe you should listen. This is because they do what's called "looping." They take a pre-recorded musical phrase and essentially "copy and paste" these phrases (drum beats, bass tracks, synth, or whatever else) over each other. Now I will say that I am biased due to the fact that I don't like rap in the first place, for the most part. But this song is absolute garbage. To call this crap "rock" is just ridiculous. It's recycled rock riffage done on a computer and with a guy that can't sing. I understand trying something different but with the leverage that Lil Wayne has, couldn't he possibly have gotten some real instrumentalists to play? Maybe this guy will get it right eventually but for right now it needs a heck of a lot of work.

Now you gotta agree with me when I say that this was totally unexpected. Who knew wayne would try to make a rock album? The guy isn't the best singer but I thought he did a pretty good job on this track....For Wayne. Overall this song deserves a 3/5. At least he's persistant.
