I love this mask,

This review is from: Promate Shamu Frameless Scuba Dive Spearfishing Mask (Misc.)
First, let me disclose that I'm a relatively new diver and have only used about half a dozen different masks and half of those were rentals. What I love about this mask is that it has a very low rise and this greatly expands my range of vision. The one-piece glass also adds to the sense of openness compared to separated goggles (although this is a personal preference).
The skirt on it is terrific and it makes a perfect seal each time I've used it (about 10 pool sessions and 4 dives to around 40 feet). At first the dark skirt threw me off, but after using it a couple of times (and comparing with my older mask, with a clear skirt) I preferred having the ambient light from the clear mask being cut off. The nose pouch is just a tad too large (or perhaps my nose is just a tad too small) and initially I had to work a bit at pinching my nose to equalize. However, I became accustomed to that very quickly and now I don't notice it anymore. I'm off on a vacation in a couple of weeks and this is the only piece of scuba equipment I'm taking with me. I'm perfectly okay with rented fins and snorkel, but I think a rented mask will be a major step down. I don't own any other diving equipment, so those are going to have to be rentals anyway. |
