5.0 out of 5 stars No wonder Bear Grylls chose this knife for a few of his adventures
I ordered this knife only because I saw it being used by Bear Grylls on Man vs. Wild on the Discovery Channel (one of my favorite shows). I saw the abuse the knife took. If you have ever seen the show you know he uses his knife for everything including chopping down trees by hitting the back of the knife blade with rocks or wood or what ever. Any way I knew from what I...

2.0 out of 5 stars Box says knife is stainless steel, not titanium.
The box that the knife came packaged in says it is made from stainless steel and not titanium. I am no metal expert so I have no idea what the knife blade is actually made from. If the knife is made out of titanium and the company could not put enough effort into quality control to put the correct metal on the box then I question the entire product. The plastic sheath...

This review is from: Promate Scuba Diving Snorkeling Titanium Knife (4 3/8" Blade) (Misc.)
Any way I knew from what I saw it was a well built knife (atleast it appeared on TV to be one) and once I received it I realized that it in fact is as seen on the show. This is a great knife for any diver or person with the need for a knife that comes in contact with a lot of moisture. Sharp blade out of the box and a very sturdy sheath with a good design on the retaining mechanism to keep the knife in the sheath when it is supposed to be and not hard to get out when you need it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great knife for the price, June 14, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Saw this on Man vs. Wild as well - not why I bought it though... I was looking for a cheap, full tang & full size, titanium blade diving/snorkeling knife for a decent price. This blade fits the bill. As for the quality of titanium - it's hard to tell, but for this price I wouldn't expect high grade. As long as you thoroughly rinse & dry after each use, there is no noticeable corrosion. I bought the yellow handle one and it is brighter yellow than the picture shows - great for locating if you drop it in the reef. The sheath is kind of cheap feeling, but does lock the knife in well & is easily released with a single hand. The leg straps are to small for a 180 lb man's thigh, but hold securely to calf - rubber seems like it might last a couple of years. Overall: a good affordable & lightweight dive knife.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great knife!, December 18, 2010
This review is from: Promate Scuba Diving Snorkeling Titanium Knife (4 3/8" Blade) (Misc.)
I bought this knife for our yearly Canada canoeing, fishing trip; and I wanted a knife that wouldn't mind getting wet. This is a very sturdy and well-made knife. I also bought a stainless steel diving knife as a gift and this is significantly lighter. It almost feels cheap because of the weight, but it's not cheap at all. It came with a decent edge, though I sharpened it up a bit, and it has a great sheath. I'm very happy with it, and will recommend it to others.

This review is from: Promate Scuba Diving Snorkeling Titanium Knife (4 3/8" Blade) (Misc.)
I bought this knife for my father, a SCUBA diver whose been diving for around 15 years. He loves it and uses it all the time when he dives! It's a great length and he loves that the blade is titanium, which is strong and good for cutting nets that he finds underwater, as well any other fishing equipment or trash that doesn't belong in the ocean. Overall an excellent choice for the gift and for diving!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great dive knife!, July 26, 2011

This review is from: Promate Scuba Diving Snorkeling Titanium Knife (4 3/8" Blade) (Misc.)
I used this knife for the first time while diving in the Florida Keys. Even when exposed to salt water for hours on a daily basis there's not even a hint of rust on the blade (gotta love Titanium!). When the knife arrived the blade wasn't particularly sharp, but it only took a minute to sharpen and the edge has held quite well. The sheath that comes with the blade is excellent. It is plastic and the straps are rubber and it comfortably fits round a calf, even without a wet suit. The sheath holds the knife in place very well--after 20 dives it has never fallen out on its own. Plus, it can be easily removed with one hand even with gloves on. While there are probably better knives out there, you really can't beat the price for a knife of this quality.

2.0 out of 5 stars Box says knife is stainless steel, not titanium., February 1, 2012

The box that the knife came packaged in says it is made from stainless steel and not titanium. I am no metal expert so I have no idea what the knife blade is actually made from. If the knife is made out of titanium and the company could not put enough effort into quality control to put the correct metal on the box then I question the entire product. The plastic sheath says titanium on it but I could not find anywhere on the knife itself where it said what metal it was. I returned the knife so I cannot comment on how useful it is or how well it would hold up over time. However, I still feel justified in writing a review since I think purchasers should be made aware that the product they are ordering may not be what they receive.

Also, regardless of what metal the knife was made from, it was not securely held in place by the sheath (I ordered the blunt-tip knife). Other reviewers said the sheath worked well but the knife I received was very wobbly in the sheath and could be easily pulled out without having to actuate the side levers meant to hold it in place. I held the sheath upside down and shook it to see if gravity would pull the knife out and it did fall out of the sheath on its own. This might be fine if you were just wearing it on your leg as you walk down to the corner coffee shop, but as any diver can attest, anything not securely attached is going to end up at the bottom of the ocean.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great knife, January 4, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Great knife. strong, solid.

It has excellent lock, but from the other side it's a problem - not easy to remove the knife by one hand.
It's one point to fix in future construction.

4.0 out of 5 stars Solid Product, December 30, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Knife gets the job done, the holster seems toy-ish, but that is irrelevant when it comes to the performance of the blade itself. The only issue is that this titanium knife came in a box that had print on it that said "High quality stainless steel blade". So I was angry when I received the knife, thinking it was stainless steel instead of the titanium I originally purchased.

After opening the package, it was clear that the knife was made of titanium, not to mention that it had "titanium" printed on the holster and the knife itself. So don't be thrown off if you get a box that says "high quality stainless steel", they may have just run out of the correctly labeled boxes to put them in.

Overall, I'm definitely pleased with the blade.

I purchased this knife for a dive. When I saw a titanium knife for under $50 I was very skeptical. Typically these knives are over $100 due to the use of titanium (lighter and stronger). I was wrong, this is a great knife. It has a very utilitarian look and feel, and an interesting lock mechanism. The knife is easy to get in and out in a pinch, wraps around a 7mm wetsuit easily, and functions as expected. Great product.

4.0 out of 5 stars Promate Dive Knife, November 2, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I bought this mainly from the reviews. I like the bright color and that it's made of titanium. I won't get to use this until Jan 2012, but the locks that hold it in could be a good or bad thing, depending on how you look at it. The locks hold the knife in solidly, but trying to use two fingers to release it, seems a bit cumbersome. I guess I'll have to get used to it, cuz I'm still happy with my purchase.
