Review from Grand Hallway super-fan,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Promenade (Audio CD)
I first heard Grand Hallway on the KEXP podcast. And since then, I've bought every Grand Hallway release available. I'll admit, my weakness is bands with orchestral elements with beautiful vocals. And they are rare; fortunately there is Grand Hallway.
The band starts with a true musical genius - Tomo Nakayama. The guy writes beautiful music. In fact, in some of their concerts, they are backed by a rock orchestra, and Tomo writes all of their parts too! In addition, he has one of those most amazing voices I've ever heard. If you listen to a sample, don't think the whole album is soft - Tomo has pipes, and he'll use them. Tomo's vocals are backed by keyboardist Shenandoah Davis. She has her own release(see my review We; Camera). Shenandoah can rock out on that piano, and her vocals are incredible partly because of her background in Opera. I really hope future Grand Hallway songs continue to find opportunities to feature her voice. And then you get to the strings, care of two violinist rock stars. Alina and Jaclyn's playing adds so much soul to the incredible tracks. The rest of the band are all multi-instrument and really give it their all. This is Grand Hallway second release, and their first CD is also excellent. You can't go wrong with these guys.
