4.0 out of 5 stars Good album..
I discovered Framing Hanley just over a year ago and instantly loved them, listening to The Moment pretty much all the time. So leading upto the release of A Promise to Burn you can imagine I was extremely excited.
I downloaded the album and to be honest I thought I had downloaded the wrong band. Its so different to The Moment. However that doesnt make it a bad...

2.0 out of 5 stars Sold out...
Title says it all... They sold out and I have no idea why. The Moment was insanely good and if you're expecting the same sound you're in for a HUGE disappointment. I don't know how you tour with bands like Saving Abel, Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, Hinder, Hollywood Undead, etc. and come out with music like this. It's no surprise Stupid Girl is one of the best songs...

It's no surprise Stupid Girl is one of the best songs... beings how it's one of the hardest on the CD. If you like poppy rock, buy this. Back to Go Again gave me a headache and made me sick. I thought I bought a Hanson or Jonas Brothers CD when I heard this track. If you want something that sounds like The Moment, pray they re-find themselves on their next CD and skip over this.

Hanley fans... I'm sorry but this was awful and I feel terrible for being so hard on them. But c'mon... This is the band that brought us Built for Sin, Hear Me Now... Christ, that entire CD. Even Lollipop was harder than 95% of this CD.

Sorry Hanley... go back to who you were... Just my opinion but others can listen for themselves.

I downloaded the album and to be honest I thought I had downloaded the wrong band. Its so different to The Moment. However that doesnt make it a bad album, in fact its a really good album, just a lot more mellow than the first, and unexpected. I would recommend this for any alternative/indie/rock fans.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good album, June 3, 2010
This review is from: Promise to Burn (w/ DVD) (Audio CD)
The album has so far peaked at #10 on the American iTunes Charts. This counts as something solid. From song one I let it go, I enjoy most of the songs. Great album, nice to listen while driving long trips at night. As for the dvd, it's really nice to see the process behind the recording of a nice record.

4.0 out of 5 stars An improvement on a deceptively deep first effort, July 1, 2011
This review is from: A Promise To Burn (MP3 Download)
I bought Framing Hanley's first effort on a whim and didn't listen to it much after the initial listen. It just didn't make an impression and languished on the bottom of my MP3 playlist until recently, when I gave it another shot.

It seemed to me a somewhat less cerebral (you might read less pretentious) 10 Years, and I think that's a pretty good way to describe their first effort. Nothing amazing, out there, or brand new, just a good band that rocks, has some good production values, more thoughtful lyrics than many, but not the most thoughtful.

A promise to burn seems to me to have a more unique voice. I think they successfully avoid the sophomore slump and produce something that is an evolution of their first album: more distinct, more thoughtful, more varied. Where the first album had a tendency to run together you can definitely tell the difference between songs here, but it still flows pretty well. In other words, it's different because they're better at writing music, not because someone told them it needed to be different.

I really enjoy their first CD. Their second is much stronger, and I enjoy it more because of it. If you like 10 years, Red, Evans Blue, or any bands like them, I'd definitely give Framing Hanley a try. Both CDs are worth a purchase, and, as it should be, the second is better than the first.

I absolutely ADORE Framing Hanley and this CD didn't disappoint. You know how sometimes when musicians release their second album only for their fans to find they've changed because now they can have a little bit of license with their songs? It happened. But guess what? They're still AMAZING! Nixon's vocals are the sweetest thing I've ever heard and the rest of the band is on the top of their game as well. Plus, the fact that this came with a DVD and I got to WATCH everyone talk about what it's like, being in a band and going on tours and playing them music, this was the best thing I've ever bought. Hands down.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome, October 3, 2010

Big fan of Framing Hanley, only found them because Brett Hestla is one of their producers and have been a long time fan of him since his band Virgo's Merlot, later called Virgos.

This album is yes different from their first but once you listen you can really feel how the band developed. I would not call this a sophomore slump by any means. This album is great even though it is not as hard as their first album. If you're a fan of Framing Hanley grab this and let is play a few times through and you won't be able to take it out!
