4.0 out of 5 stars My Lovely Deborah
The new cd by Deborah Cox is good from beginning to end. What makes this cd so wonderful to me are two songs in particular, Beautiful U R with it's pulsating beat, great message, and great vocal especially when she holds the note halfway through. The other dimepiece on the album is Did you really love me. It's a subtle song production by Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis where...

3.0 out of 5 stars 3½ stars - A very good album, but a bit too short.
Lately, it seems like all the underrated, big-voiced divas of the 90's (Tamia, Chante Moore) have given the middle finger to major record labels and have decided to go independent. I think it's a very wise choice, especially for Deborah Cox. In my opinion, she is one of our greatest, strongest vocalists since Whitney Houston, but for some reason, her success never reached...

The new cd by Deborah Cox is good from beginning to end. What makes this cd so wonderful to me are two songs in particular, Beautiful U R with it's pulsating beat, great message, and great vocal especially when she holds the note halfway through. The other dimepiece on the album is Did you really love me. It's a subtle song production by Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis where they let her vocals take center stage as it should. The way she sings "Was there ever really love at all" in the songs chorus is very haunting to me. I really felt those words as if she was singing them to me. The whole cd is just plain good. It also reminds me of another singer that I adore "Tamia" on her latest indie release. I'm so happy to see talented artist not letting the big business of record labels stop them from making beautiful music. If you are a Deborah Cox fan you will like this cd. I can listen to this cd all the way through and I couldn't say that for "The Morning After" so it's definitely a winner. I'll have to check out Destination Moon just to hear more of her beautiful voice. Go get it, I doubt you'll be disappointed.

The songs on this cd are excellent. It is a welcome return from Deborah Cox. The theme here is relationships and feelings. Most of the tracks are slow. be they ballads or slow r@b jams. Deborah is more emotive here than I think she ever has been. The songs are raw with emotion and she uses her full range to great effect. There are many standouts. THE PROMISE, LOVE IS NOT MADE IN WORDS and DID YOU EVER LOVE ME are vocal revelations yet I find ALL HEARTS AREN'T SHAPED THE SAME to be my favorite.

The uptempo tracks like BEAUTIFUL U R fit in fine. But there is one problem here and it is not a small one. This cd is only 40 minutes in length. That is unheard of these days and not really fair to buyers. We know that cds hold up to 80 minutes of music and this is only half. It is not necessary to use all 80 but in the liner notes it is clear that Deborah has tried to put together a cohesive set here that explores the ups and downs of all aspects of relationships. This isn't really achieved for the set is so short. Honestly, it reminds me of when there were albums and not cds and artists tended to put 15 minutes of music on each side.

I have to give this cd 4 stars for Deborah, who is an amazing talent, is vocally at her best but when I listen to it I must put the cd on repeat. If I do not it ends so abruptly that I feel a true letdown. It's hard to get fully incvolved in this project due to its length. If more effort with more quality tracks added had been included this could have been a masterpiece. Instead it is 40 minutes of Deborah's great vocals but it is lacking.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice Comeback, November 12, 2008
By

Last year Ms. Deborah Cox tried her hand at Jazz and was quite successful. She has returned after six years (her last R&B album) with an awesome comeback. If you enjoyed her first album you will definitely enjoy this one. The first time I played the CD, I liked it, but it wasn't until I listened to the lyrics and felt the music that I realized how wonderful this album is. If you like R&B, you will enjoy this album.....

True fans know that she had a jazz album last year that was amazing "Destination Moon"......yet Deborah is back with her first r+b studio album in 6 years. I can say that this is one of Deborah's best albums to date with some of my favorites as being "Saying Goodbye" with its awesome beat and words it has to be one of the best tracks, "Love Is Not Made In Words" is just incredible!!!

If you are a fan of her dance tunes you have to buy it, if you love her jazz tunes you have to buy it, if you love her on broadway you'll love it. This album is for everyone, there is something that will touch everyone and there are jams when you are driving in your car that you can blast and think that you can sing like Deborah!

This album is something that is going to stand the test of time and be something you pick up and put in the player years from now, if you dont know Deborah you can not go wrong with this album, pick it up and some of her others I still will say that "Destination Moon" was one of her bests too and dont forget "Remixed" (that one is great for the gym) who would have thought that she can help you loose weight too!

BUY *******THE PROMISE******** I promise you wont be dissapointed

I hesitated purchasing the latest offering from Ms. Cox due to the lack luster 1st single. The 2nd release "Did you ever love me" made me break down and pick up the CD, and I'm glad I did. The "Promise" is Deborah at her finest! If you've enjoyed her classics like "Sentimental" and "How did you get here" (or is it Nobody supposed to be here?), you'll love this CD.

Deborah Cox singing like Whitney would. I really noticed the comparison between there vocal styles when they released their hit duo. The biggest problem for Deborah is that she needs a stylist and some hot video productions. It is not a problem but would help her popularity which translates into sales and viability. Otherwise, she is an emotional vocalist with a marketable sound that needs to meet the market. The first track would be a nice video, with a hot outfit and plenty of attitude.

Miss cox is back with a cd that is well worth the wait there is nothing more frustrating to wait sometimes years for a artist to release a new cd only to wonder what they were doing and you feel half the tracks are fillers knocked up at the last minute to finish the cd but none of that here EVERY track sounds like its been written produced and arranged with love and care if you love good music buy this album for me its a cd i would never want to be without in my collection.
