Even better than "The Passion",
By A Customer
This review is from: The Promise (Hardcover)
These are great times to be a reader of werewolf fiction, with writers such as Alice Borchardt and Susan Krinard doing a werewolf series. But Donna Boyd's got 'em all beaten. Why? Because her portrayal of werewolves is absolutely perfect. A ton of writers have tried to capture the right balance of the human and the lupine, but only Donna Boyd nails it dead on. If there really were werewolves this is what they would be like. You'll find no slobbering fiends bemoaning their "curse" here. These werewolves are proud, beautiful & fiercely erotic. Not only will Donna Boyd take you to the heart of the world of the werewolf -- she'll make you want to be one. If you love werewolf fiction, you must read her books. Then, like me, you'll be howling (excuse the pun) for the next installment.

Donna Boyd does it again!,

In this sequal the story from The Passion continues with the 1/2 human 1/2 Loup-Garou offspring. It was supposed to be impossible for warewolves and humans to mate, however, it happened, and you cannot help but share the feelings of the characters in this book. I have never felt so close or involved with novel characters before. This book captures your heart and emotions. I found it brilliant and intelligent. You will not be disappointed! Donna Boyd cannot write her books fast enough.

Very fast reading!,

I read this book, in a day! (hours into the night) I found myself connected with each and every character. Quite brilliant. From what little I know of these creatures, I felt that the characters exhibited many traits of an actual wolf, creating a believable werewolf race. They command irrational superiority! Most importantly: I got this book for christmas, not knowing that it was the second in the series, and I did NOT feel that I was 'missing' anything by not reading the first. Of course, I will now get the first one, I just hope that it is as captivating as this one! I did not find anything 'cliche' about this book, it was passionate, adventure-full, mysterious, and a bit dark. I really do hope that there is more to come, it sure made me feel that there will be! When you first began, you may start to feel that the werewolves have 'too much' destain for humans, but you must read on.....there are lessons to be learned! To the author: please do write another sequal, this David has me mesmerized already, and the clans have yet to do so much more 'together'.

Tragic yet hopeful,

I have to say that I think that this book was possibly as good as the Passion, but one cannot begin this book thinking that it's going to be a repeat of the first of the series. This story mainly tells the lives of Brianna and Matise, the trials and torments that they endure as the result of Brianna's heritage and their love for each other. I heard that this is to be a series, but I have yet to see a possible third installment. My only complaint was with the jacket summary. It was very misleading in making the reader believe that there was going to be a romance/sexual tension between Alexander and his rescuer. Just to let you know, there isn't any at all. While I'll refrain from giving any more details from the book, I found it to be a satisfying read (great for a rainy day or at the beach). I recommend it to everyone.

Engaging and Intense,

This is the best werewolf novel I have ever read, and I have read several from different authors, different categories.. this is by far the best. I liked this book so much, I already read it twice. To top it off, I had to buy The Passion in hardback version because I couldn't wait for the paperback version... her stories are that engaging and intense! I could not put this book down, nor The Passion, either. Donna Boyd cannot write stories quickly enough for me. She is an intriguing and unique writer who can create incredible characters. She quickly draws you into the story, and before you know it, the story has ended. When you are done reading, you ache for more. Strange, but that's how it was.

Good, but not what I wanted it to be.,

The Promise is a book that I wasnt expecting. I read its companion book "The Passion" A while ago and it was not at all what I thought it would be, so I guess I shouldnt have been surprised that Donna Boyd tricked me again...her stories are never predictable. The woman can defintely write. Her style and imagination are brilliant. Going into this book, I expected one thing but, what I got was something all together different. I read the back of the jacket and I loved the description and really wanted a relationship to form between Nicholas and Hannah...I was somewhat disappointed when the book went in an entirely different direction. The Promise is written with two separate stories that sort of parallel each other. I did enjoy reading The Promise, but I felt like it left me unsatisfied. A happy ending is not what you can expect from Boyd..I should have learned that after reading The Passion. Still, this was an interesting read. Im glad to have read it and will definitely keep my eyes peeled for more of this authors work.

Hmmm,

Now this, compared to her other book "The Passion" was a little more hopeful. Still depressing in ways, werewolves need to swallow their damn pride (it's rather irritating that they miss out on wonderful things like Briana and Matise did because of pride.) ...great writting. Donna Boyd is a very talented writer my only slight criticism is she needs to lighten up a bit, but for what this book was meant to be it would be number one in it's category! Me, I'm a sucker for happy endings, and the only reason why I'll be searching for her other books is to just see what happens with the Devoncroix's story.

Sequel not quite up to prequel.,
This review is from: The Promise (Hardcover)
I read this part of the series first. I liked it well enough to hunt out the first part, which I loved far more. I think I was mostly disappointed because the story itself didn't live up to the jacket summary. About 90% of the novel had to do with the past and Matisse and Brianna's young lives. I had hoped for at least a 50-50 proposition here. I would have loved for the wolf researcher to know Nicholas well enough to fall for him. In short, I guess I was hoping for some romance between the woman who'd lost her husband in a car accident and the man who was also a wolf. Hopefully, the third installment will show Nicholas in as romantic a light as "The Passion" showed Alexander.

More than just good romance,

I thought these books (The Passion and The Promise) were going to be a cheesy romance novels, but the stories really moved me. They are also stories of survival, compassion, and suspense. I thought about them long after I finished and can't wait to read the next in the series. If you're on the fence, definitely give these a chance, you won't regret it.

A gripping saga difficult to put down.,
By Midwest Book Review (Oregon, WI USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Promise (Hardcover)
This provides a sequel to THE PASSION but newcomers need not fear: it's quite accessible to those with a passion for Anne Rice vampires and no prior familiarity with Boyd's works. She tackles the werewolf clan, revealing a group of creatures within human frameworks which bolsters human society yet lives outside it. A brother and sister with very different talents grow up together, face forbidden romance, and an eventual truth which shall tear them apart in this gripping saga packed with powerful characters and subplots. Hard to put down: highly recommended.
