About the Author

Robin Jones Gunn has a passion for communicating God's love to young hearts. She began writing story books for toddlers when her children were little. Her husband, Ross, has been a youth minister for over twenty years. While on a camping trip with teens from their youth group, Robin found some of the girls hiding away in their tent reading a stack of novels they'd brought with them from the library.

Curious as to what could keep these girls away from the sun, surf and guys, Robin borrowed three of their books. As she read them, her heart broke. They were not the kinds of stories these girls should be reading! After the camping trip Robin went to her Bible Bookstore and bought every book she could find that she thought would be interesting for the girls and have a good influence on them. The teens read all the books in a week and asked for more.

"There aren't any more," Robin told them. "That was all I could find." The teens challenged Robin by saying, "Then you write some for us. We'll even tell you what to write!"

Each week Robin would take a chapter and read it to her Sunday School class. And each week the teens would rip it apart, telling her how to rewrite the story. It took two years to complete Summer Promise, the first book in the CHRISTY MILLER series which was released in 1988. The twelve book series has sold over a million copies worldwide. I think this was my favorite of the whole Christy Miller series (but I think I said that about every book in the series after I read it). But for all of you who wrote you wish robin jones gunn would write more books about Christy, she is. There is a book out called Departures, which has Sierra and Christy. And there is also a book about Christy Millers diary. And..... She is going to write (it isn't out yet) a series called Christy and Todd: the college years. So I'm pretty excited about those beacause I love these books. If you haven't read them before, I really, truly, honestly think you should (if you want).

Christy goes on a missions trip to Europe and has a interesting time! She's going out with Doug, but she wonders if anythings really changed from when they were just friends. She misses Todd terribly, even though she promised herself she wouldn't think of the T-word, she finds herself thinking about him constantly. Well, on this trip, she meets some very interesting peeps, including Sierra Jensen, and they become great friends. Christy realizes Doug and Tracy are the perfect couple, and when another girl on the missions trip gets hurt and is sent home, Christy, being the only one who can speak Spanish, is sent to Spain as her replacement. And boy, does she get a pleasant surprise at the train station! Let's just say she gets a dozen white carnations and her "forever" bracelet. Hmmm. . I wonder who those could be from! Read it to find out! Robin Jones Gunn, why did the Christy Miller series hafta end?! I love Chrisy Miller, although, i love sierra books too! Christy is way to undertalked about in the Sierra books. Well, anyways, all Christy Miller and Sierra Jensen books are must reads!

This book was excellent! I have read this book about 3 times and each time I read the end of it, I almost cry! All of the Christy Miller books are wonderful
