This review is from: Promise Of Forever Love (Second Chance at Love V3) (Paperback)
I enjoy reading all of of vanessa miller's books. This was a great story about a woman minister, Yvonne who loses her husband of over 30 years to cancer. After his death, members of the church would like to fire her because of members leaving the church. Her husband's best friend a minister, Thomas Reed comes to help restore the church along with her. They begin to spend time together and are attracted to one another. Great beginning of a love story. I highly recommend the entire series. The story also has a man who is set on revenge who is trying to destroy the church structure. You will be anxiously awaiting what is going to happen next.

A Promise of Forever Love is the story of Yvonne Milner, a rising female pastor in Detroit who hits a slow patch as she tries to recover from the death of her husband David two years older, and manage the church that she and her husband had co-pastored together for years. Things are further complicated by a declining economy, and scheming individuals intent on removing Yvonne from her her post as senior pastor and destroying her church. Meanwhile, her growing feelings for longtime family friend Thomas Reed has her confused. Yvonne's hands are full with her personal life and her church and she must depend on her faith to navigate her way through the crises.

This was my first read from Vanessa Miller and I enjoyed it. I actually purchased another book from her but have not received it yet and so ended up reading this one which I bought on kindle first. I wasn't wowed by the concept but the story turned out to be interesting. The characters felt real, except for Marvel who seemed a bit over the top. But this did not detract from the story. I felt that it started out a bit slow,(I actually put it down for a few days which is unusual for me) but once it picked up, it kept me hanging on until the end. As a younger reader I can't really say I identified with the protagonist who is in her 50s, but I still enjoyed the book. It was a little heavier on the scriptural references than most books I read, but this did not take away from the story - however it should be a warning to those who are unsure whether or not this is Christian fiction or just another church drama story.

This is a great inspirational offering from Miller and I look forward to reading more work from her.

I really enjoyed Vanessa Miller's A Promise of Love Forever. I felt the story of a woman coming to grips with the loss of a husband and her own feelings of guilt while she falls in love again was well done. Nothing is easy for Pastor Yvonne from the guilt she feels about falling in love with a family friend to the trials and tribulations of her daughters lives, and the complication of a psychopath who was obsessed with destroying Pastor Yvonne and her church. I liked the characters of Yvonne, Thomas, Tia, and Toya who seemed realistic. The characters of Marvel and the accountant were a little bit harder for me to believe. However, it was a good read, and one that made me keep turning the pages until the end. I will definitely be reading more of Vanessa Miller's books.

This is a wonderful story about a second chance at love. Yvonne Milner pastored a church with her husband and love of her life David. David dies of cancer and that is when Yvonne's life is turned upside down and inside out. Her trusted church board wants to vote her out as pastor, her youngest daughter finds herself in a very difficult position, and her oldest daughter gets involved with someone who does not have her best interest at heart. Then here comes Thomas Reed, her deceased husband's best friend to save the day. Yvonne has to decide if she wants to honor a promise that she made to her deceased husband on his death bed or follow her heart and a second chance at love with Thomas. You will truly enjoy this book. Once you start reading, you will not be able to put it down.

Vanessa Miller did an excellent job with the last book in the Second Chance at Love series. Often I find by book three a series has wanned and lost it's zest, but not so in this case.

It was refreshing to read a romance about a couple in the twilight of their lives rather than the younger set we often see in romances. I appreciate Miller stretching her creative muscles and showing us how much we all want love no matter our age.

In particular I loved the strength of the men (most of them) in the story. We have a bad guy, but his bad is overshadowed by the men who know how to treat a lady.
