5.0 out of 5 stars Grittier, Scarier, Bigger, August 5, 2004
This review is from: Promise Him Anything (Paperback)
Juliette Monroe learns that her abusive ex-husband, David, has found her in the most terrifying way possible, when she hears he has taken an entire daycare center hostage, including her little boy. Working with a local detective in Riverton, Kansas, Nick Corelli, she talks her violent ex into surrendering--only to have him escape and vow a terrible vengeance.

Juliette longs to flee again. But Nick convinces her that unless she wants to run the rest of her life, she needs to stick around Riverton until David is captured and testify against him. Nick vows to protect her. But can he, really? Once before, he failed to protect someone he loved. And David is proving to be anincredibly evil, vicious, and clever adversary.

Author Carla Cassidy has taken the romantic suspense she does so well at Silhouette Intimate Moments and cranked it up several notches. This is grittier, scarier, bigger in scope than her previous work, and a great page turner that will have you checking and re-checking your locks.

5.0 out of 5 stars Now This Was A SUSPENSE Novel!!!, September 8, 2004
This review is from: Promise Him Anything (Paperback)
This is one of those great romantic suspense novels that really have earned the title for the sub-genre "romantic suspense". Ms Cassidy grabs you from the first page, and although you know who the bad guys is right from the start you are still compelled to continue on reading in order to see how this truly evil man finally gets his due. And trust me the ending is wonderful.

The characters Juliette, and Nick are great. They come together under the worst circumstance you can think of, and yet their developing relationship is believable. Billy, Juliette's son is an exceptional character to this already great story, and what would a suspense story be without the bad guy? Bad guy David is an incredibly wonderful creation by Ms. Cassidy. This guy drips evil from the get go and suffice it to say you will find yourself with a bad case of the hebby-gibbies.

This was the first time I've ever read Ms. Cassidy, and she has now garnered another fan as far as her suspense writing goes! This author has managed to pen a novel that doesn't stint on either the romance, or the suspense. This is not always easy to do. I highly recommend this read to any fan of the romantic suspense genre. You won't be sorry.

5.0 out of 5 stars a true romantic suspense!, February 7, 2005

This review is from: Promise Him Anything (Paperback)
Juliette Monroe has been living in fear for eight years married to an abusive and mentally crazy husband. Now, over a year running from him, she and her son Billy meet Nick, good cop promising her and her son that he will do anything to keep them safe from her crazy ex David. After being released from jail on bail for holding the tiny tot daycare center hostage, Nick and Juliette begin a long journey of disovery, of courage and of hope of the future and the love that develops between these two in the most stressful of situations.

I loved the characters in this book. They were all very well written. The book had a really great sub-plot about Nicks brother and Diane the the love and heartache the three of them shared and lost. This is a lost and found book. Losing things but finding things all over again. A book that I just could not put down. You will cheer, smile, get angry and cry. I read this one in a day! You will too.

4.0 out of 5 stars Suspense @ Its Best, June 6, 2005
By
This review is from: Promise Him Anything (Paperback)
I finished this book pretty fast. From the very first page, this novel holds your attention until the very end. Even though this is a fiction piece,it gave me insight into how truly evil people can really be. David was a perfect definition of a monster but @ the same time, the term seems a bit too kind to use toward him. I loved the interaction between Nick and Billy...my favorite parts being when he told Nick that he didn't pee the bed and when Nick gave Billy his lucky rock. This book is truly suspenseful and will keep you on the edge of your seat waiting to see what will happen next. The only problem I seemed to have was that it seemed to go way too fast. You got to see the depth of feeling Nick had for Juliette but merely scratching the surface of what Juliette felt for him. Same applies for Tony and Diane. I guess I'm just accustomed to the characters professing love for each other on equal measure but all in all this is a great novel. Totally worth every penny spent on it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Oh, how I loved it!, July 15, 2004
By
This review is from: Promise Him Anything (Paperback)
It all began as a hostage situation. A sick, cruel man took a daycare school filled with children hostage to get his ex wife back by killing their son. Nick Correlli, taking a desperate gamble, gets the mother, Julliette to the scene, hoping she can somehow difuse the situation before someone dies. Although his gamble works, thanks to Julliette's calm bluff, the situation will only intensify. Now betrayed and set loose by a flawed justice system, David is determined to kill both Julliette and the boy. Nick is even more determined that he not. As the intense drama plays out, Nick becomes a part of the family he protects, making the stakes even higher, more personal. With every day, David has less to lose, and Nick more.

***** Ms Cassidy decidedly graduates from series romance to mainstream with this book. She keeps the pressure at just the right level to keep you on the edge; romance only increases the tension, not softens it. The finale' is one that will leave the reader with a resounding "yes!" *****

5.0 out of 5 stars exciting romantic suspense, July 6, 2004
This review is from: Promise Him Anything (Paperback)
In Riverton, Kansas, David Blankenship holds seventeen preschoolers including his son Billy and two adults hostage at the Tiny Tots Day Care center demanding to speak to his former wife substitute elementary school teacher Juliette Monroe. Hostage negotiator Nick Corelli makes contact with David, but worries about the victims as the culprit is silent for the most part, but when he speaks, he shows no emotion until Juliette arrives. Desperate to save Billy and the others, Juliette promises David she will be with him without the child. David comes out and the cops arrest him. A couple days later, a court allows him bail, which he meets; his freedom causes an uproar in the small town.

David returns to Philadelphia where he remains patient as he plots his vengeance on his lying bitch of a wife starting by killing her son. Meanwhile Nick worries about Juliette and Billy and with the help of his police partner and his brother, guard them around the clock. As he falls in love with the two Monroes and they return his feelings, he knows David is coming, just when remains the question.

This exciting romantic suspense stars a delightful lead couple, both suffering from mental wounds and a vile intelligent villain who believes he is smarter than the law (wait until you read the final justice). The secondary cast augments the lead couple with insight to how much they care for others. Especially interesting are the mentally crippled former girlfriend of Nick's brother while Billy contrasts the males in his life so readers obtain a terrific tale with depth from multiple perspectives.

5.0 out of 5 stars Top Notch Suspense!!, December 29, 2004

This review is from: Promise Him Anything (Paperback)
This is my first Carla Cassidy novel, and it definitely won't be my last. Talk about a sick twisted evil person. David was that in spades. His nastiness alone kept me turning the pages, because I just had to know how this novel was going to end. And the ending was perfect. I really enjoyed this compelling, keeps-you-turning-the-pages novel, and I look forward to seeing what else Ms Cassidy has to offer.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent suspense with a gratifying conclusion, January 11, 2006
By
This review is from: Promise Him Anything (Paperback)
Hostage negotiator Nick is called to talk a father out of holding a day care center at gunpoint. When the ex-wife is notified, Nick is attracted to the cool blond who obviously suffered domestic abuse at the hands of her overbearing and wealthy ex-husband.

When psycho ex-hubby David realizes that her promises to return to him and give their son away (he does not like to share) were a ruse, he goes into a frenzy, deciding if he can't have her, he'll kill her. When he is released on bail, Nick helps her go into hiding from David, and soon the two are attracted to each other, and he wants to take care of her son Billy (who likes to remind everyone that he does not wet the bed anymore). David blames Billy's birth on the breakdown of his marriage.

No one is safe when David partakes in his mission to wreak vengeance on Juliette. David is pure, unadulterated evil - even his parents wanted nothing to do with him once he and Juliette got married.

Nick is nursing survivor guilt of another kind. He feels responsible for the death of a friend's child after a hostage negotiation gone wrong. Perhaps rescuing Juliette and Billy will absolve his conscience. With the clock ticking, and a deranged and determined man dogging their every move, Nick races against time to save the woman he loves from the madman she unwittingly married.

Cassidy, known for her pulpy Silhouette romances, brings edge-of-your-seat tension, heartache, and romance to a plot that has been used numerous times, providing a gripping tale with a truly gratifying conclusion. It won't disappoint!
