Book Description

April 2, 1994
When the swindling trio are saved from the gallows by a band of rescuers, Anne-Marie was scooped up by an Indian, Abigail got a prissy-looking gentleman, and Amelia held on for dear life to the dashing figure of Captain Morgan Kane. When she confeses she's running from the law, he drops her in Galveston, only to come to her rescue again, in more ways than one....

Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

The final installment in the Sisters of Mercy Flats trilogy picks up abruptly from its predecessors ( Promise Me Today and Promise Me Tomorrow ). The McDougal sisters, trapped in a runaway jail wagon, are being chased by teenaged Comanches. Watching the women's plight are Morgan Kane, a Union spy, and two other men who join forces to rescue them. Kane saves Amelia McDougal, a featherbrained, silly twit of a girl. He promises to see her safely to Galveston, where after just a few hours on her own she falls prey to a villain who sells women into prostitution. Destined to become an infamous privateer's prize, Amelia is taken aboard a ship where she meets 10 other captives. The villain mistakes Kane for the privateer--who happens to be the subject of the spy's secret mission--and Kane acts out the charade aboard ship. All escape and flee on a riverboat which hosts a series of uneventful scenes that end when the villain's riverboat catches up with them and the boilers of both boats explode. Everyone is blown into the water, but only the good guys and gals survive. A witless heroine, inane dialogue and a shallow plot are only a few of the myriad maladies that ail this story. Undoubtedly meant to be a lighthearted, humorous romance, it falls ill on page one and never recovers.

From Library Journal

This novel is the final volume in "The Sisters of Mercy Flats" trilogy. Still dressed as nuns, the three infamous McDougal sisters are being taken to jail when their wagon is attacked by Comanche braves. Miraculously, they are each rescued by three very different men. Amelia thinks her hero, Captain Morgan Kane, is the most dashing of the lot-until he leaves her to fend for herself, and she ends up with a boatload of women, headed for a life of prostitution in New Orleans. Copeland is a seasoned, popular writer noted for funny, fast-paced, sensual adventures. Readers who enjoy reading Pamela Morsi or Rebecca Paisley should like this.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Wonderful Story!, July 9, 2000
This review is from: Promise Me Forever (Mass Market Paperback)
I don't usually read westerns and have never read a Lori Copeland book, so I was wonderfully surprised when I couldn't put this book down! It was witty, action-packed and just an all around cute page turner of a love story. Amelia is very funny and I love that in a book. I like humor more than anything else! And what I liked about it most was that I didn't feel like I was reading a porno book when it came to the actual love scenes, matter of fact if you are looking for the sizziling sex scenes that some other books have pass this one up, because there are none, it is just a good love story, and I for one loved it!

1.0 out of 5 stars Never, EVER read this book, July 28, 2002

This review is from: Promise Me Forever (Mass Market Paperback)
This book was absolutely horrible. The first book in this series was really good, but the books, not to mention the McDougal sisters, progressively get dumber as you go along. Amelia has to be the most stupid, ignorant heroine I have ever had the displeasure of reading about. I mean, how does Ms. Copeland expect us to believe that she's a con-artist when the girl has the IQ of, oh, say, an earth worm! And Amelia's unhealthy obsession with bacon, while amusing, is really gross. In conclusion, all I have to say is: in the name of all that is holy, what were you thinking Lori?
