5.0 out of 5 stars Some Christian Music That Really Inspires Me!!!
Now I have accepted Jesus as my savior and like to see his word preached through many different things (Including music), but most christian artists like DC Talk, Raze, and Underdog, although I like what they're singing about, their music just doesn't pull off an inspiring message about God. Then came plus ONE. I first heard them on the "Pokemon 2000"...

3.0 out of 5 stars it's a good cd...
i'm not a big plus one fan, but i have to say this cd was a lot better than their other ones. this seems more Christ-oriented than their earlier cds. this is definitely an improvement, and, although many people think the love songs are inappropriate for the cd, i think that they're relevant to a non-Christian's life, which makes the cd appealing. their love songs are...

5.0 out of 5 stars Some Christian Music That Really Inspires Me!!!, August 30, 2000
This review is from: The Promise (Audio CD)
Now I have accepted Jesus as my savior and like to see his word preached through many different things (Including music), but most christian artists like DC Talk, Raze, and Underdog, although I like what they're singing about, their music just doesn't pull off an inspiring message about God. Then came plus ONE. I first heard them on the "Pokemon 2000" soundtrack and fell in love with them, then come to find out: They're a christian band!!! So I got the CD and here's what I have to say about the songs.

1. Written On My Heart (5/5)

My favorite song on the CD. Even though they don't mention Jesus, it's not hard to figure out who they're talking about. I truly inspiring song. You should hear it if you havn't already.

2. God Is In This Place (3/5)

Now this song didn't inspire me as much as most of the others do. But this song has a very good message none the less. Another good one.

3. The Promise (5/5)

The albums title song proves that the boys do know how to pick key songs very well. Some of the best melody notes are in this song. With some VERY good vocal's! I love this song! Buy this CD for this one song if you must.

4. My Life (2/5)

I didn't like this song much. Probably because it has too much style that much N'SYNC songs have. I don't really know.

5. Soul Tattoo (4/5)

Another very inspiring song, with the perfect vocals and tunes, makes this song a "Must listen to as soon as possable song!" Bravo!

6. I Will Rescue You (3/5)

Not an inspiring song, but a good song none the less. Mabye had they given more thought in the tune and direction the song was going in mabye it could have been better.

7. When You Spirt Gets Weak (5/5)

A truly amazing song that caught me off guard as to how good it was! This song really does capture the feeling and emotion when God says "I'll be there for you." A GREAT ADDITION TO THE CD!!!!!! BRAVO!!!!

8. Last Flight Out (4/5)

Another good song I highly recomend to everyone. For God I would take the last flight out!

9. Run To You (3/5)

This song sadly, is the one song song that got old fast (Most of te others I still listen to me frequently). They just didn't write a good enough song to hold my intrest after 5 times.

10. Be (5/5)

This song is so moving I don't know how to describe it. Beutiful!

11. Here In My Heart (5/5)

Although this is a romance song, because this is on the radio people will rush to buy the album not expecting it to be a christian album and fall in love with all the songs. A romance song to be proud of.

12. My Friend (5/5)

What album wouldn't be compleate with out a "Best Friend" song? Well plus ONE even has a best friend song in it. I think this was the best way to end album with this very touching song about friends. This is bound to be a classic.

So whether you're christian or not, plus ONE is a band to own (Espescally if you've had you're share of N'SYNC) in your CD collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars What happened to ten stars?, July 16, 2000

This review is from: The Promise (Audio CD)
Yikes. This CD still leaves me practically speechless. Okay, so I haven't even had it 24 hours yet, but I've already listened to it five times, and I've got it mostly memorized. This is one of the most amazing albums I have ever heard. The music and lyrics have all the complexity of other boybands' sophomore attempts, without the accompanying trash. These guys not only talk the talk, they walk the walk by singing a majority of Christian songs. Here's my song-by-song evaluation:

1~ Written on My Heart ~ The first song of theirs that I heard. The staff did a lip-synch up at camp, and within hours of getting home, I bought the CD. This is one of my favorite songs because of beautiful lyrics and gorgeous melodies.

2~ God is in This Place ~ One of the more minorey (is that a word?) tracks. Awesome words, once again. (Amazing how singing about God can do that!)

3~ The Promise ~ Quite obviously, the title track. Yet another gorgeous song. I love the chorus, but the harmonies on the bridge are my favorite.

4~ My Life ~ Wahoo! A dance track! And the guys still manage to sing about salvation. How do they do it? (Really well, actually.)

5~ Soul Tattoo ~ Another dance track with some funky beats. And, yeah, I love the lyrics for this one, too.

6~ I Will Rescue You ~ Slowing down a little, this song is the first on the album that doesn't mention God or redemption. Or does it? In my own humble opinion, this could very easily be the song that God sings to us. {I will dry your tears/Cast away your fears}

7~ When Your Spirit Gets Weak ~ Another exquisite ballad, this time about helping each other in hard times. Some of the most creative lyrics ever written {Everybody's got to kneel/No way to reinvent the wheel}.

8~ Last Flight Out ~ This song doesn't make a whole lotta sense to me, but, oh well. It still sounds good. And at least they tell the truth {For you I would fly/At least I would try}. One drawback: my English teacher would have a field day with some of the phrases, like "no more".

9~ Run To You ~ I know you guys are gonna get tired of me saying how awesome the lyrics are, but deal with it! `Cause these guys sure know how to choose writers. This is an amazing song about being able to lean on the LORD. {... And I get lost in you/When I don't have the faith}

10~ Be ~ The sweetest song. Written by three of the guys themselves (with some outside help). I think that they could give JC of `N Sync a few pointers. This song is definitely NOT about cybersex! {And I'll turn your gray skies back to blue/ `Cause there's nothing I won't do for you}

11~ Here in My Heart ~ Another sweet one. One of the few that has nothing to do with God. {Wherever you are tonight/ I'll see you in my dreams}

12~ My Friend ~ A gorgeous, bittersweet ballad about having to leave a good friend. Too bad I didn't know about this song for graduation! {We have been through so much/ And you have been my Godsend/ With your sure and steady love}

Well, that's about it. Overall, this is a GREAT album! I would strongly suggest it for anyone who appreciates good music. One added plus is that they include the lyrics in the liner notes, so you can learn the songs faster. That's all I can think of to say to you. But all you have to do is look at me to know that every word is true. So long, all!

P.S. Make that six times! I listened to it again as I was typing this out!

5.0 out of 5 stars PlusOne beats Nsync and BSB big time!!!, August 17, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: The Promise (Audio CD)
Plus One is a great group if you're into pop and drums and also christian music! Their voices are incredible and touching. The lyrics are also really inspiring. Here's my evaluation on each of the songs.

Written On My Heart- This is the first song that was heard on the radio from their album. It's about how a person realizes how much love the Lord has shown us, and how it would be without him in our life. (thinking how it might of been, if you have never walked into my life).

God Is In This Place- This is a song mostly about faith, and God being with us all the time. When I first heard this, I thought it was a song to sing at church or a gathering.

The Promise- This one, is one of my favorites. The lyrics and melody make this song one of the best on the cd. I liked it so much that I printed out the lyrics and put them up in my room, and as soon as school starts, I will print out a copy for my locker. This song is about how Jesus knows everything, and understands rough times (he knows every star in the sky, every single tear that you cry).

My Life- Whoa, this song is definetly one that you feel like you want to dance to. Although I like this song, it seems like its not christian because it doesnt mention God and sounds kind of secular.

Soul Tattoo- This song is another great one Thats all i got to say about this one. CHORUS: Cause youre the answer to the question, the reason to the rhyme, youre the rythym to my heart when it beats our of time, im so thankful Lord, that you are mine, its true, you are my soul tattoo.

I Will Rescue You- Out of 1-10, this song deserves an 8

When Your Spirit Gets Weak- 10

Last Flight Out- this is another one of my favorites, mostly because of the melody but i dont understand why they say "babe" and "baby" it seems like they're singing it too a girl. ???

I Run To You- I love this song because of the funny voice in some parts.

Be- this is a nice song also because it seems like God is saying it to us

My Friend- great song for graduation

This CD is great. Plus One offer songs that are way better then any boy band out there. I used to be a huge *NSYNC fan until their last ablum when my crush JC wrote a song about cyber-sex. *NSYNC really hurt me by sing those songs. With Plus One I don't have to worry about them making those same mistakes. There's great peace in know that the people I'm listen truly love the Lord. If you read this I ask one thing of you. Please pray for the secular groups out there that are just like JC and *NSYNC. Well, I was at summer camp everyone their was making fun of *NSYNC, Britney Spears and all those other artist. When I was listening to them make fun of them I started to think of the impact we could have on the world if won them to Christ. I think instead of teasing them we need to praying for them. See that what give Christian a bad name. We make fun of the unsaved and act like were better then them. We need to look at them in love and pray for them. Back to the CD. "The Promsie" is a wonderful CD for someone who likes POP music like me. I lyric are loving and catchy. Something you could hooked to. I hope that you all get this. It's AWESOME

5.0 out of 5 stars More Like 100 Stars!, May 25, 2000
This review is from: The Promise (Audio CD)
WOW! This is one of the best albums that I have ever heard. Nate, Gabe, Jason, Nathan and Jeremy have definite God-given talents that are being used for His glory. The musical variety and depth on their debut release will capture your attention and minister to your soul. My favorite tracks are "When Your Spirit Gets Too Weak" and "My Friend." These two songs are beautiful ballads that will become life anthems for many people, not just the young in body, but also the young at heart. You can't go wrong with David Foster as a producer and his influence shines on the title track "The Promise," a song that perfectly depicts God's assurance that he will never leave us. Foster lent his talents on three other songs, one of them being the already mentioned "My Friend." Buster and Shavoni did a great job of producing the hip/hop flavored "My Life." This album has the winning combination - great vocalists, great producers, great music, and most of all, great lyrics. It is evident that these are Godly young men, and this gives their music a very refreshing sound. Excellent job, guys! I can't wait to see and hear more of you in the years to come.

5.0 out of 5 stars Plus One more star!, July 5, 2003

This review is from: The Promise (Audio CD)
When I first heard that there was going to be not one, but two Christian boy-bands (the other being True-Vibe), I have to confess that I was not crazy about the idea. My fear was that they would be a "boy band" first and a Christian group second.

Fortunately they turned out to be the reverse of my fears.

"The Promise" was one of the best albums of 2000, vaulting Plus One to the tops of not only the Christian charts, but the secular charts as well. In addition to a concert tour that was a huge hit, Plus One also popped up in a few TV shows during 2000 and 2001.

Nearly three years later, many of the songs on this album still receive a lot of radio play on both Christian and secular stations.

Although the group was put together by an outsider (i.e., someone not in the group itself) and all the songs were written by other people, the message in this album is clear: God is not just out there, but He is a big part of your life. This message is made clear by the songs "Written On My Heart," "Soul Tattoo," and "Here In My Heart."

Probably the most popular of the songs on this album, at least in the Christian circles, is "God Is In This Place," a reminder that God is here, there, and everywhere.

The group has recently dropped from five members to three members with the departure of Jeremy Mhire and Jason Perry. The remaining three have decided, at least for now, to stay a trio. We'll have to wait and see what the future holds for them. In the meantime, get acquainted with this group through this album.

We got this CD the first day it was out! It is our favorite. The songs are all good but we especially like: Soul Tattoo, Written on my Heart and My Life. these guys sound a lot like N Sync only they sing the songs with real emotion. We got to meet them yesterday at a Promo Tour. They were all really nice and the mini concert they did was Awesome. You won't be sorry if you purchase this album. It is wonderful!

The Promise reveals tremendous vocal talent with a message. With 12 songs on the CD there wasn't one song I wanted to skip. This is the best "boy band" sound I have heard. It's a project all ages will enjoy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Christian Music No Longer Takes Back Seat, June 6, 2000

Wow! "Written In My Heart" is a song that even the Backstreet Boys and N'Sync would marvel at. These guys vocals are amazing, and the photography and lyrics also standout. The vocals are well thought out as the producer, Foster, did a great job. Yes, these guys could improve musically, but for a debut album, this was really great. These guys are headed for the top 25, and I am not even talking about the Christian music charts. Why let the devil have all the good music, as Larry Norman once said.

Watch out, Backstreet Boys and N Sync, here comes Plus One! "Written In My Heart" is as good as any Backstreet song or N'Sync song, maybe better. The harmonies are great throughout the album, with some songs being better than others. Musically, the group still could use some improvement, but as a debut album this was phenomenal. The lyrics were well thought out and Foster did a wonderful job producing this. Whoever did the photographs in the cover did a great job as well. It is only a matter of time before these guys crack the top 50, and I am not talking about Christian music, either. Why let the devil get all the good music, as Larry Norman once said.
