5.0 out of 5 stars The Promise Remains
This is my favorite book by Travis Thrasher!! Sweet love story of two people that find their way back to each other after life throws curves their way. I really couldn't have asked for a better ending. This book grabbed my attention from the get go and I had a hard time putting it down.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sweet, reflective story, December 20, 2000
By

This review is from: The Promise Remains (Hardcover)
I found this book to be sweet and thoughtful. It is the love story of two people who are meant to be together- or are they? The only separating them from each other are their religious views. I grew quite attached to the characters, and felt the moods of the book very well, even to the point of sympathy for Sara and Ethan sometimes! If this book lacked anything, it was adventure, but the author did a wonderful job of staying on track, which made the book easy to follow. The style was very interesting as well, almost like a letter or summary with every chapter. Perhaps the story was slightly unrealistic- the characters almost put their lives on hold to follow a dream or their feelings, but it made a wonderful story. If you enjoy a slower paced, contemplative, sweet story, this a book I would highly recommend.

5.0 out of 5 stars A promise..., October 16, 2011
This review is from: The Promise Remains (Hardcover)
This is Travis Thrasher's debut novel, released more than 10 years ago. His story of hope and love, however, is just as relevant now as it was when it was first published. Travis uses characters the reader can relate to, to bring to life this sweet love story. You can't help but root for Sara and Ethan and the power of true love. Even more important, though, is the reminder of God's love. THE PROMISE REMAINS is a shining example of 1st Corinthians 13: "(Love) always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails." Don't we all want a love like that?

4.0 out of 5 stars A Pleasant Love Story, April 5, 2011
By
DecemberJoy (City by the Sea, CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Promise Remains (Hardcover)
The Promise Remains is a love story, Ethan and Sara's story, about waiting and trusting the Lord for direction in their relationship with one another. They meet when they are both in their teen years; Ethan is a "worldly" teenager while Sara is a devoted Christian. They are attracted to each other instantly but because Sara is wary of dating a non-Christian, the relationship never develops beyond one of friendship. Through the years they stay in communication through letters - never really seeing one another in person, however, their feelings blossom...until suddenly communication is cut off and both are left wondering what happened.

This was a fun book to read. The story is well written and keeps you engaged throughout. I often found myself drawn to the story because I wanted to experience the love between these two people and I found myself rooting for them, even against all the obstacles they encountered. Although the story was interesting, you never doubted the ending, and even knowing what was to come you were still enticed by the characters to continue their story.

The underlining message of the book is a Christian one, so if you are not into "Christian" stories or philosophies, then you might not enjoy this book as much as the reader who shares the same views as Sara. Sara is a Christian who believes that it is not true to her faith to enter into a relationship with an unbeliever and this message is reinforced throughout the book by Sara's thoughts, actions, and conversations with the other characters.

Personally, I liked the story and believe this would be a wonderful book for all preteen/teenage girls to read because it depicts a female character who stands firm in what she believes in, who trusts God to see her through tough situations, and who puts God first when making decisions about life and love. All great characteristics for young (and even older) Christian women to have.

It's a wonderful love story that is sure to delight the reader!

4.0 out of 5 stars Love. Never. Gives Up., August 1, 2010
This review is from: The Promise Remains (Hardcover)
Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.

As a young single man, I've often been told by those older and wiser than I that next to my decision to be in a relationship with God, who I choose to marry is the most important decision I will have to make. Ethan Ware, because of his decision regarding the former finds himself tearfully denied the latter. He made a promise to never stop loving her; she made a promise to never give up on him and pray that he finds Hope. Many years later and thousands of miles apart, Ethan Ware and Sara Anthony are still affected by that night - for The Promise Remains.

In his debut novel, published a decade ago, Travis Thrasher tells a wonderfully enchanting love story that spans the course of twelve years. Realistic characters coupled with great writing give the story emotional depth and prepare the reader to accept the truth within. A love story pure and simple, Thrasher proves that guys can be romantic and have a heart for God. It's an inspirational story guaranteed to bring a smile to your face.

The Promise Remains is a story of love, perseverance, and the providence of God. Thrasher's heart is poured out in this novel, you can tell. He tells his story masterfully, creating suspense and mystery that only heightens the power of Love.

4.0 out of 5 stars Opposites Attract, July 26, 2010
This review is from: The Promise Remains (Hardcover)
This is the first love story that I have ever read. Ordinarily this genre would not interest me at all, however since the author is Travis Thrasher it was a must read. Several months ago I read "Isolation" by Travis Thrasher and I was hooked! "The Promise Remains" is the fifth book that I have read by Thrasher in the last few months. I can honestly say that he is my current favorite author. In "The Promise Remains" Thrasher has crafted a love story that is at times predictable, but very engaging. The strength of the book is in the main characters Ethan and Sara and a few other supporting characters. They are all very real characters that I got to know throughout the book. And in Ethan and Sara two characters that I grew to care about more and more as I learned more about them. A lot of real life issues are addressed throughout the book; love, marriage, faith, friendship, forgiveness, family, etc. As a debut novel this is a good work. Thrasher has really honed his craft and only gotten better and better with time. I am looking forward to reading his second novel "The Watermark" and in time his entire catalog.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful Love Story about Changed Lives - changed my own, July 12, 2004

Sara and Ethan met in their youth and formed a strong bond but something held them back from sharing a life together. As Sara plans her wedding to a another man she cannot help but recall feelings for Ethan. Across the country he is also trying to find her. This is the second book I have read by Travis Thrasher and he did not disappoint me. In fact not only was it an enjoyable, believable read it led me back to some people and some things I had been neglecting over the last few years of my life. Just Wonderful.

5.0 out of 5 stars WOW! A MUST READ!, February 14, 2009

This review is from: The Promise Remains (Hardcover)
WOW!!!!! This is an amazing book! Once you start it, you won't be able to put it down. It's wonderfully written, and an amazing story. What female doesn't wish for a man to love her as truly and deeply and eternally, as Ethan's love for, Sara.

I loved the way the story unfolded; there was nothing I would have changed. Though it has many of the qualities of, The Notebook, it stands alone. Now this, I would love to see as a movie. I know without a doubt it would be one of the few I would watch over and over, again

Don't miss out on this wonderful little book, packed full of hope and love. This is one of those stories that will "remain" with you forever...do I dare say, I "promise".

If you like this one, you're sure to love, Sky Blue.

5.0 out of 5 stars I LOVED THIS BOOK..., November 6, 2003
By
"liludalis" (Mililani, Hawaii) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Promise Remains (Hardcover)
This book starts off with a hook. It brings you in questioning and wanting to know what it all means. I had so much fun reading this book I couldn't put it down. After reading the last page I went on line and bought the only two other books that Travis Trasher wrote. I am like every other woman out there that thinks that a man writing a romance novel won't be as good as a woman who writes one. I felt like the story pulled at my heart and I wanted more. The references to GOD and life made me realize what I forgot as a Christian. It made me want to make my realtionship with GOD stonger. Also it reminded me that I should trust in GOD more.

I'm 14, and I read this book. It looks like an adult book, but I think Christian teen girls would love it. This book was one of the best romances I have every read. I would totally recommend this book. I can't wait to read other books by Travis Thrasher.
