5.0 out of 5 stars Good to be back
I was so glad Ms. Macomber wrote this book. I had read all the other Heart of Texas books and was a little sad at the end of the last one. I felt like I was leaving Promise and all my friends behind. This book was an answer to my prayers. I think all the plotlines keep this book interesting. After all if you've read the other books you are catching up with old...

3.0 out of 5 stars The magic of Promise, TX, but too many plotlines
Again, Debbie Macomber has come up with the delightful characters we grew to love in the Heart of Texas series. Unfortunately, Macomber tries to do too much of a good thing. This nearly 400 page book should have been two 200 page books. Macomber runs between 4 plotlines and has to cut back and forth between them all. In the end, each suffers. Each mini-plot does not...

I was so glad Ms. Macomber wrote this book. I had read all the other Heart of Texas books and was a little sad at the end of the last one. I felt like I was leaving Promise and all my friends behind. This book was an answer to my prayers. I think all the plotlines keep this book interesting. After all if you've read the other books you are catching up with old friends and making new ones. This is a delightful read from beginning to end. Caution: you won't be able to put this book down once you pick it up. If you've read the others you've got to go back to Promise, Tx. If you've not read the others stop by and say hello!

5.0 out of 5 stars Who says you can't go back again?, March 4, 2001

This Debbie MacOmber story is a pleasant revisit to the Heart of Texas series. It is wonderful to visit old friends and meet some new ones. If you haven't read Debbie's first six books about Promise, Texas, you must put them on your wish list.

In this story, like the others about Promise, commitment and trust are woven into love and respect. Family is important and so are friends. I recommend all seven of these Promise books for younger readers since the heart and soul of these stories leaves the love scenes to the imagination.

Enjoy! You can do nothing else in Promise, Texas.

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb return to the Heart of Texas, July 10, 1999
By A Customer
Two years ago in California, a car accident left her near perfect figure with ugly scars and a limp. Her spouse divorced her so when her childhood friend Dr. Jane Patterson invited Annie Applegate to relocate to Promise, Texas, she accepts and opens up a successful book store.

The two precocious children of widow Lucas Porter love going to Annie's book store. Lucas, who refuses to entangle himself in another loving relationship, also cannot resist the lure of the newcomer. When his housekeeper leaves town, Lucas offers a marriage of convenience that will help him with his children while helping each other put off the loneliness of having no companion. However, this is Promise where love always enters the picture.

Fans of Debbie Macomber's great "Heart of Texas" series will be elated that the awesome author returns to Promise with a fabulous novel. The story line reads more like interconnecting vignettes that only Ms. Macomber could keep interesting and straight. The brief description above describes only one of the numerous relationships that are progressing in Promise. Old friends return such as Dovie and Frank, and new buddies arrive such as Jeanie. One promise that readers know is that Ms. Macomber provides the top in entertaining relationship dramas.

3.0 out of 5 stars The magic of Promise, TX, but too many plotlines, November 8, 1999
By A Customer
Again, Debbie Macomber has come up with the delightful characters we grew to love in the Heart of Texas series. Unfortunately, Macomber tries to do too much of a good thing. This nearly 400 page book should have been two 200 page books. Macomber runs between 4 plotlines and has to cut back and forth between them all. In the end, each suffers. Each mini-plot does not get the time it needs to develop. In addition, Macomber spends too much time catching her readers up on her previous stories in a summary each time the major characters from those books are introduced. Macomber needs to let "Promise" stand on its own strengths and not lean on the first six books and let the characters in "Promise" develop with their own stories.

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy to read and felt like you knew these people personally, October 26, 1999
By A Customer
Since I had read the other preceeding books, not necessary to understand the story, I enjoyed getting reacquanted with them. I also enjoyed the new characters and their stories. I also enjoyed the character of Travis and how Macomber is able to use him to tie up previous stories. I hope she countinues to write stories about different peopple and how they interweave their lives, whatever the setting. How about a second generation?

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent read, October 4, 1999
By A Customer
After reading all of the other "Texas" series of books by Debbie Macomber, I was delighted to see that she had added another book to the lineup! After getting the book I couldn't wait to see what was happening to the establised residents of Promise and the new residents of Promise. Let me tell you, I was not disappointed in what happened to everybody in the town and to see that Richard was still up to his conning tricks!! I just hope that Debbie will keep on writing more books about Promise and keep us informed about everybody in the town.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Joy To Read, February 3, 2000
By A Customer
I really enjoyed reading this book. It was a first for me in the Texas series, so now I want to go back and read the others. I agree with the reviewer that thought there were too many plotlines. It got a little confusing at times, but I have to say all and all this book was a joy to read. The people of Promise are truly special.

Very enjoyable book. Annie came alive for me. Also enjoyed the other two underlying romances (The sheriff and the teacher; Nell and Gordon)
