5.0 out of 5 stars A great romance set during the Revolutinary War era, April 9, 1997
By A Customer
This review is from: The Promise (Paperback)
As the Revolutionary War begins to encroach on the citizens of New Eden of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Philip Crown decides to return with his family to his ancestral estate in England. By 1793, Philip's adopted son, Daniel, a half-breed, has become restless with his idyll life in England and decides to return to New Eden to seek out his roots. ...... Upon seeing her adopted "cousin" Daniel for the first in over a decade, eighteen year old Brianna Crown decides that she has found the man for her. However, Daniel is dissatisfied with life in spite of the fact that he stands to inherit a fortune. Instead, he begins to look into his Indian background. Brianna decides to help him because she wants Daniel to be hers. Regardless of whether Daniel eventually reciprocates Brianna's love or not, there is a dangerous and unknown foe stalking them. Their enemy plans to end more than the dreams of two young people, the antagonist plans to destroy Daniel. ....... Kasey Michaels is one of the top writers of early American romance novels, and her latest book, THE PROMISE, lives up to the book's title by delivering a great historical romance. The story line is fabulously written, the lead characters are very interesting protagonists and the supporting players add the right touch to this period piece. Ms. Michaels is one of the best writers of historical romance today. Harriet Klausner

5.0 out of 5 stars Series Closer Just As Good As The Others, June 20, 2003
By
This review is from: The Promise (Paperback)
The Promise is the third in Kasey Michaels's America trilogy, following The Homecoming (Dominick Crown and Brynna Cassidy) and The Untamed (Philip Crown and Brighid Cassidy). This time around, it's Philip and Brighid's adopted son Daniel and Dominick and Brynna's daughter Brianna's turn, sort of an "America: The Next Generation", if you will. Even though it is the closer of a trilogy, though, don't discount it. It's every bit as strong as its predecessors, and you will remember it and the friends you make of its characters long after the series is done. I highly recommend, though, reading the entire trilogy in order: start with The Homecoming and then read The Untamed before going to The Promise. I downed the whole trilogy in about a week, and I didn't want it to end. Trust me, read the whole series! You will love it too, and won't want it to end either. 8-)

5.0 out of 5 stars A Delightful Heartwarming Read!, July 2, 2001
By
"devinelili" (Warroad, Minnesota United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Promise (Paperback)
I found that "The Promise" was a very entertaining read. The interactions between the two leading characters, Daniel and Brianna, are just wonderful. It was absolutely adorable to read how Brianna kept after Daniel. And poor Daniel trying to fend himself from her only to find himself falling deeply in love with a little "imp" of a girl like Brianna. I find the secondary characters just as entertaining. Brianna's parent's advice and suggestions to Daniel was incredibly funny and not exactly what the conventional parents would say. As Daniel is trying to find out his true self and exactly who he is, the book really puts meaning to "home is where the heart is" and "if you come face-to-face with love...don't look away" This book is a must read! Daniel and Brianna's relationship was utterly refreshing and beautiful!
