I love the message Karola Breit recognizes within herself, that she is making strong, healthy choices that will guide her life. Karola grows from an immature girl to the woman who knows her own heart. And when she makes mistakes along the way, she is able to look around and realize that everyone makes those same mistakes. It is this humanity and genunine human spirit I love in Robin Lee Hatcher's books. Her characters do not so much change overnight as they realize their mistakes and are able to grow, and hey - it's a book! "Promised to Me" is my favorite of the Coming to America series...so far.

Another winner by Robin Lee Hatcher. We need more exciting Christian novels. Many people might think because it is a Christian novel that it is devoid of action and suspense but this is not so at all.

Promises to Keep You Up All Night,

I read a lot of books. Rarely does a book keep me up all night, but this one did. Karola Breit grows in the Lord and in maturity, as she cares for the children of a man who broke his promise to bring her to America and marry her 10 years earlier. While she refuses to marry him her first day in Shadow Creek, Idaho, she cannot refuse to care for his three motherless children, while he gathers his harvest. I can't wait to read the rest of the series--I love prairie romance and immigration in the late 1800s stories, and this fits that bill beautifully.

Promised to Me,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Promised to Me (Coming to America #4) (Paperback)
This book was okay, but isn't one of my favorites. Jakob seemed so harsh. He always seemed to be upset. And I felt sorry for Lance. He was in love with such a loser. Charlotte is a character hard to understand. In one chapter she's all mean and spoiled. And in the next, she's feeeling bad for eavesdropping. The children were not realistic. They seemed too perfect. And it was hard to read because she kept throwing in all these German words. Some characters seemed to be crying every other page. Overall, this book wasn't bad. But I've definitly read better books. No offense.

The entire Coming to America series is wonderful, and Promised to Me is no exception. I always learn something new about the grace of God from Ms. Hatcher's books. She is one of my favorite authors. Definitely in the top five. Promised to Me delivered her usual engaging characters and seamless plotting. I felt as if I knew all of the characters because the period details were so excellently drawn. This is a story to treasure and a fine addition to a terrific series.

Warm & Tender,

Ms. Hatcher has a wonderful way of telling slice-of-life stories set in small town America. Promised to Me is another fine example. I felt like I was one of Jakob and Karola's neighbors, I knew them so well. I came to love each of the children and longed for this couple to discover their love for one another anew. I'll bet this is another award winner for Ms. Hatcher. It's that good. And since I was born and raised in Idaho, I loved seeing the state so lovingly and accurately portrayed in this historical setting. If you want a feel-good read, you can't go wrong with Promised to Me.

As the series Coming to America continues Karola Breit desides to travel to America to meet her beau that had already come years before. Jakob Hirsch had promised Karola that he would write for her to join him as soon as he could get the money up. He wrote to Germany to her a few times then the letters stopped, Karola went with a broken heart not knowing if he was alive or not. She did not want to marry any other man as her heart belonged to Jokob. One day a letter came and he asked her to come and be his bride, She was so happy and could hardly wait,But one letter he wrote did not reach her, so when she landed and went through coustoms, there he was, but who were the children he had with him? This story tell about how some of the women that came to America to be brides found themselves when they got here, I really enjoyed this series and I want to thank Zondervan Publishing for sending me this book for my review,

I really enjoyed this whole series! Wish there were more, they were so hard to put down...and I was so disappointed when they were done! Hatcher is a very skilled author, and I always look for anything new from her, first!

Grandma liked it,

I cannot review the actual book as I did not read it. I purchased the series (four books) for my grandma because she was looking for some historical Christian romance novels. She is happy with them, so I give it four stars. I may read them when she is done, so if I do, I will definately update this review.
