Excellent Covington installment,
By Ms. Honest Opinion (WDM, IA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Promises of Change (Covington) (Paperback)
I have read almost all of this series and have loved virtually every one. This one focuses on Hannah and her stories more than the others, although all our favorite characters are there to some extent. I appreciate that the author has "matured" the characters enough that grudges aren't kept for long periods of time anymore. That was a bit much in some of the earlier works. This one is just a gentle, wonderful story of the lives of some very interesting people, with very believable situations and reactions. I just loved it. And, from the little spoilers in this book about the last one, Unexpected Family, I'm going to go back and read that one as well (I'd initially decided not to because Amelia has been known for her grudge holding and the story sounded like she could have taken a hundred pages to accept the new people in her life, but the author seems to have mellowed Amelia a bit in that respect and for that I'm grateful). While I'd recommend starting at the beginning of the series, it wouldn't be too confusing to just start here. Thank you, Medlicott, for giving us a series of books with mature, lovable characters and their struggles and triumphs!!!!

Best Yet,

This may be the best of the Covington Series yet. New and exciting things keep happening to the Covington Ladies. This shows we really are only as old as we feel. Easy to follow and a real attention keeper.

Latest in the Covington series released in January 2009! Continuing the stories of the ladies of Covington, Joan Medlicott has done it again! I always wait with anticipation for the continuing saga of these three wonderful women. Easy reading and you will not want it to come to an end!

I would like it much better if the author were allowed to keep the Covington name in the title of the book. She has written other books not in the series. The first book in the series, The Ladies of Covington Send Their Love, is a delight. The next several books in this series have Covington in their title. I also prefer hardbacks, and now they are coming out in softcover only. The quality of the paper is noticeably poor. The publisheres are shortchanging the author and readers !Having said my piece, I did like this book, read it almost straight through ! The Covington saga continues, always an interesting plot.

As usual, the ladies of Covington entertain us with their lively lives. It's fun to read about the extended families, but the ladies are special. I dread coming to end of the story. Joan's books are so refreshing.Gail Melluzzo

Promises of Change - Covington,
This review is from: Promises of Change (Covington) (Paperback)
I have come to think of the Ladies of Covington as dear friends with whom I can relate as they discuss health issues, relationship issues, or political issues. Joan Medlicott writes with incredible sensitivity and understanding of how women over 60 think and feel.

As always, Joan Medlicott delivers another fantastic book. I feel as though I'm part of this Covington family and I'm always sad when it comes to an end. I can't wait until the next sequel!

For fans of the Covington tales,
This review is from: Promises of Change (Covington) (Paperback)
In rural Covington, North Carolina, Hannah and Max marry, but maintain their separate houses although she spends many nights at his. Her two friends Grace and Amelia who share a farmhouse with Hannah are fine with the arrangement, as is Max.However, their marital bliss abruptly ends when Max's estranged son Zachary accompanied by his pregnant wife Sarina, arrives from India. Hannah and her two best buddies welcome Sarina to the Tar Heel State with friendship and quickly the mother-daughter in-laws forge a strong bond while baby shopping in town together. However, the schism between their husbands remains wider than the Great Gorge even after Sarah is born, which dampens the joy of a newborn Fans of the Covington tales will enjoy the latest escapades as Hannah's new family issues take center stage although plenty happens to Grace and Amelia too. Hannah worries that the estrangement between her beloved husband and his son, which already huts the pair, will cause pain to others, but is unsure how to proceed to bringing about a reconciliation. Obviously for the Covington audience, this is a warm character driven entry; as all the novels are. Harriet Klausner
