When words are not enough, December 5, 2006
Picture this, downtown Detroit on a Friday afternoon, a flashing red, vintage Corvette swerves to miss two pedestrians, and collides with a dumpster. This sets up a meeting between down-on-her-luck mechanic Callie Tyler and powerful financial mogul, and dangerously handsome, Julian Cruise.
Callie has been struggling to keep her financially strapped garage out of bankruptcy, with the help of her only relative, an enigmatic and overtly colorful cousin. He is the reason she was in the way of the oncoming vehicle in the first place. And now she faces more trouble; a reckless endangerment lawsuit or a deal with the devil.
Julian pampers that Corvette more than he pampers a woman, and it has just been wrecked. With his regular mechanic going out of town, he must entrust his 'baby' to one of his mechanic's apprentices. Grudgingly Julian agrees, but when an unsuspecting Julian arrives at Tyler's garage expecting a man, he discovers the mechanic is his new adversary; the same petite four foot eleven, sultry eyed vixen that caused all of this. With the turbulent emotions Callie is stirring, Julian may need to push his Corvette to the back of his mind; he could be primed for another collision.
PROMISES OF THE HEART was an entertaining story. Ms. Overton shares this uncharacteristic tale with just enough drama and humor to keep the juices flowing and the heart pounding. The primary characters were adequately matched adversaries, but the secondary characters were the secret ingredient to help make the story linger. A good book to read.

In the Name of Love, February 9, 2007
Automobile mechanic Callie Tyler, already struggling to make ends meet, is in for a rude awakening when she and Pookie, her cross-dressing cousin, find out they are being sued by accountant, Julian Cruise. After all, according to Julian, had it not been for the two he would not have wrecked his cherry apple-red 1965 Corvette Stingray. However, the tables are turned because unbeknownst to Julian his trusty mechanic, who suddenly feels an urge to leave town and is unable to repair his car, refers Julian to Callie, his old apprentice.
When Julian discovers Callie is the one charged with the task of repairing his car, and she refuses, he has no other choice but to drop the lawsuit. In the midst of all the confusion, Julian and Callie find themselves falling in love. The only roadblock halting their blossoming romance is the fact they were reared and raised on opposite sides of the track.
Elaine Overton delivers a heart-wrenching storyline depicting how people look for love in all the wrong places. With a little suspense thrown in, PROMISES OF THE HEART captures the reader's attention and holds it until the very end. I really enjoyed reading this novel and look forward to future works by Ms. Overton.

A Bulldog in Love, August 1, 2006
Elaine Overton brings a fresh perspective to love not only does she show how far one will go for the one he loves but she also shows how people of t alternative lifestyle truly live instead of what the world stereotypes them as.
Callie Tyler was left in her stepbrothers hand after their parents died but little did anyone realize that Paul was out only to take care of himself. After cashing in on everything that he could possible he basically ruined his life along with Callie's but with the help of a drag queen stylist extraordinaire who just so happens to be Callie's cousin Callie is able to keep a little of her life afloat. But when Pookie is almost hit by a car, everyone gets a scare. Julian Cruise had some demons in his life but none of that would stop him from doing right but when he finds himself head over heels in love with a woman who is truly different then him his head is saying no but his heart is signing yes. The bulldog as he is known in the financial advising world has final met his match or should I say soul mate.
Elaine brings the truly unique plot of a mechanic, a businessman, a crossdressing diva to the table it was truly a refreshing read.
