I am a veterinarian that purchased this microscope for use in my clinic (for examination of blood, tissue, urine, fecal samples, etc). It actually arrived a few days early which pleasantly surprised me. It was well packaged in styrofoam and appears to have no damage from shipping. I have used it several times already and it is comparable to or better than other microscopes I have used in practice. For the cost it far exceeds my expectations! Will definitely recommend this company to others and will use them again in the future.

I read microscope reviews while considering this product. Everyone who has bought one says it's a great microscope and it's just like the ones they use in their university, etc. Then when you go to other sites they say you get what you pay for, image quality is more important than magnification, better to buy a used brand-name microscope than a new no-name microscope, etc.

Well, I bought this microscope. I can confirm that it is every bit as good as and maybe better than the olympus microscopes and other brands of microscopes we had at my university. This is a much better option and still cheaper than buying a retired university microscope that probably will need maintenance and has been used and abused by countless students over the years before finally ending up on ebay.

I use it mainly to help identify pathogenic bacteria and fungi. I bought a gram stain kit to go along with it.

I was also between the OMAX and that other similarly priced microscope on Amazon from a Chinese brand. This microscope has LED lighting. I also think it looks more professional because it doesn't have the multicolor aspect the other one does. Finally, between a Korean and a Chinese company I chose Korean.

Read the reviews and believe them. This is a very good microscope for half the price of a used name brand microscope. If a compound microscope is what you need then this is a good option for whatever you may use it for.

This is a top quality microscope for several reasons. I am a college student studying microbiology and this microscope exceeded my expectations and fit my budget perfectly. For the price I really could not ask for more. I will provide a detailed review and pictures of organism I have observed using my OMAX microscope. FYI I'm writing this review by comparing the OMAX to name brand microscopes such as Olympus and Nikon because these are the microscopes typically available at any JC, SU, or university.

CONTRUCTION - First off, the construction of the OMAX mostly metal. There are few plastic part, but these part are the buttons, switches, and knobs. The main body, head unit, arm and stage are metal and very sturdy. The plastics parts are fine and do not compromise the structure and stability of the OMAX. The microscope is a slightly smaller than name brand microscopes, yet it does not fail to produce the same results as name brand microscopes. The light source is LED. This provides the user with a low power light source great for viewing live organisms and enough power to brightly view all other types of specimens.

OPTICS - Next the optics are excellent and provide the user with high resolution of anything bigger than a 0.5 micrometers. You can use this microscope to view bacteria, fungi, protozoa, etc. The microscope comes with a 5x, 10x, 40x, and 100x objectives. Also it comes with 10x and 20x ocular objectives. The 20x is nice and makes it slightly easier to view organisms. The main viewing objectives are removable for replacement or upgrades.

FUNCTIONS - The OMAX has lots of useful functions. The ocular objective has interpupillary adjustment. In other words the ocular objectives can moved closer or further apart depending on the users preference.

I'VE HAD MICROSCOPES SINCE I WAS A CHILD BUT THIS WAS MY BEST INVESTMENT. I USE THIS TO FIND BACTERIA AND IT DOES THE JOB AS WELL AS THE PROFESSIONAL LAB SCOPES.SETUP IS EASY AND WAS DONE WITHOUT INSTRUCTIONS.USER INSTRUCTIONS HAVE MORE CLARITY ON YOUTUBE VIDEO. JUST TYPE OMAX ON YOUTUBE SITE OR OMAX MICROSCOPE THEN FIND THE ONE THAT'S OVER 10 MINUTES LONG.
THIS MICROSCOPE IS WELL MADE OF HEAVY METAL AND IT'S NOT A CHILD'S TOY MICROSCOPE. ILLUMINATION IS ADJUSTABLE WITH THE KNOB ON LEFT SIDE BOTTOM .EYE PIECES ON HEAD ARE EASILY ADJUSTABLE AND MOVE SIDEWAYS TO MAKE IT MORE COMFORTABLE TO USE.THIS MICROSCOPE ALSO CAME WITH A COVER.

I think it's a GREAT scope for the price! At higher magnifications, you can see little things on the inside of the lenses, which I don't know if that can be cleaned off or not... But either way, you can zoom up to 2000x with this! Find some rain water in a bucket, put a drop under a microscope.. You'll be amazed!

I guess OMAXs' customer satisfaction policy has changed.
After waiting for the microscope for three weeks, the microscope finally arrived, but to my disappointment, the LED light was broken. I can't use a light microscope without a light, so I contacted OMAX via email to get the process started for a replacement. The resolution that was offered by OMAX was for me to open the microscope and check if a wire had come loose during shipping. The wire was not loose. I then called the 1-800 number given by OMAX and the representative simply stated he couldn't do anything for me. OMAX was not willing to accept the return nor provide a replacement. OMAX said that this is an issue to resolve with Amazon, since Amazon ships the product. I started the return process with Amazon, but they refuse to pay the return shipping fee because this order was only "fulfilled" by Amazon. I then called OMAX to see if they would cover the shipping cost for the return, but OMAX stated it is not their problem since it was ordered through Amazon. Now I'm stuck in a ping-pong game between two companies where each is using the other as an excuse to not take responsibility for a faulty product. The conclusion is, I am now expected to pay shipping + insurance + tracking ($19.52) to return this microscope so I can get my $199 back and then I can reorder (if desired) to get a (hopefully) working microscope.
This has not been a satisfying experience. It's not unusual for companies to get great reviews about customer service and then later sell out and change those policies. Maybe great customer service and functioning products are a thing of the past for OMAX.
