I came across Jordyn Redwood's blog, Redwoods Medical Edge, a few years back. It is a FANTASTIC resource of medical information for the fiction writer.
I have followed her on her blog ever since.
When I found out that she had written a trilogy I was ELATED! She is such a wealth of information not only from her blog, but from her 20 plus years in the emergency medical field. I had NO doubt that her book(s) were going to be amazing. She poured brilliant insight from her expertise as well as her imagination into the pages of her debut novel.
PROOF is the first book in the trilogy. It is a fast paced, page turning, medical/ police detective thriller.
The back cover reads as follows:
"Dr. Lilly Reeves is a young, accomplished ER physician with her whole life ahead of her. BUT that life instantly changes when she becomes the fifth victim of a serial rapist. Believing it's the only way to recover her reputation and secure peace for herself, Lilly sets out to find- and punish, her assailant. Sporting a mysterious tattoo and unusually colored eyes, the rapist should be easy to identify. He even leaves what police would consider solid evidence. But when Lilly believes she has found him, DNA testing clears him as a suspect. How can she prove he is guilty, if science says he is not?"
To me this book is like Greys anatomy and CSI on steroids. It is filled with fast paced story lines, believable (and some lovable) characters, medical drama, action and gut wrenching emotions. It shines a dynamic look into the world of not only police detectives but the medical community as well, in the midst of a very emotional investigation.
I thought I had the book figured out several times only to be spun around questioning what I thought I knew. She spins the story beautifully keeping us scratching our heads in wonder..but rooting for the main characters throughout.
Once I started reading the book, it was very difficult to put down.
After I read the last page I felt exhausted as if just exiting a roller coaster.
A week has passed since I have finished PROOF and I find my self still drifting into thoughts about its characters.
TO me- the sign of not only a great writer, but an engaging book is when you find yourself thinking of the characters long after the last page has been turned. Redwood and PROOF have proved immeasurably true to both.
I am looking forward to the next two books in this trilogy and am truly hopeful to see many of the same characters surface again.
For a debut novel, this one, five stars- hands down. Very well done. I highly recommend this book. You will NOT be disappointed. I promise.
Great job Jordyn!
