Essential resource for plant propagation,
This review is from: Propagation Handbook: Basic Techniques for Gardeners (Paperback)
I use this book constantly when I'm wondering how to propagate a plant: by seeds, division, and/or cuttings. Each technique has a chapter explaining how best to do it, followed by a chapter that lists hundreds of species and the best seasons/ways to accomplish propagation. First you check the chapter with the chart that shows which methods will work for your plant, then go to the method(s) that are appropriate to get more information on the species. Due to its compact arrangement, there is a lot of information packed into not that many pages.
I doubt that I will ever purchase another plant propagation book. I highly recommend this one.

This book tells you how to propagate plants in a rather easy-to-understand format, which I really appreciate and find very useful. I'm new to propagating plants and wanted a book that was straightforward. I have the feeling I'll be using this book for a very long time!

I ordered this book because a fellow Master Gardener showed us her's at at demonstration of how to start plants. Let me tell you her's was well used and was passed around the room for us to look at and there was many of us that wanted to purchase one.
It is easy to follow and to use. Shows what the procedure should look like so there is no second guessing on how it's done.

I'm not sure if their are better options out there, but for me this seems to always be my "go to" book out of 4 others when trying to propagate one of my plants. It covers all required areas of propagation very well. Species specific enthusiasts will possibly want more specific resources in the long term.
If you want a general propagation resource to pull out when needed this is the one. My basic needs have been met every time. |
