After reading the low star ratings, I was hesitant in ordering this. But I decided to give it a try. When I received it, I tried it out going against the suggestions about freezing the bottles. The propane leaked and did not fill the bottle at all. I thought "Son of a crap, it's not going to work." But after putting the bottles in the freezer for a couple of hours and trying it again, it worked better than expected. I had the source tank upside down and it caused the neck of the disposable to bend a little because of the fast temperature change and the weight of the propane going into the bottle pulling it down. (That's my guess why) So next time I will try laying the source tank on its side. That will also help keep any particles that were in the source tank from going in.

As it comes delivered this thing is a completely worthless leaking fire hazard that will ruin your bottles you are trying to fill as well as the bottle you are filling with.... Being a Marine Engineer I had all the tools to make this piece work, but at a low hourly rate it would have cost me $60.00 to make this thing useable.... The outer threads needed machined to fit this in the filling bottle first, just to find out that the stem inside was machined wrong and slicing the tiny seals in my one pound bottles to be filled, so fixed that next just to find out that the red sealing gasket for the one pound bottles in this thing is not a gasket at all and leaked more propane than it put in the bottles.... So.... then I had to make a proper sealing gasket as well.... One thing after another, should have just sent it back when I noticed the first problem I guess, but, hours later and I have this this thing re-machined and gasketed so that it actually works, and it only ruined one of my one pound bottles.... My advice is do not buy any one of these that has a red sealing surface inside that mates up with your one pound bottles, my guess is that there a lot of places re-branding this one bad unit with the red sealing surface inside so check the pictures....

This little adapter screws on the big 20 lb tank and then those little 1 lb tanks screw into it. Within 45 seconds, you've got a refilled 1 lb tank.

I have been using these couplers for years. I gave my first one to a friend and ordered this one for myself. They are so handy and easy to use. Just screw it on, tip the 20# tank upside down, open the valve for a minute and it's full. It gives you the small propane refilled, almost for free.

When I got this I thought it would have at least the Minimum of instructions with it but instead the coupler came in a plastic bag and NOTHING MORE! JUST THAT!!! I ordered it because we've been using a LOT of the 1lb tanks on our Mr Heater to cut down on electricity thru the colder months, especially in the bathroom when taking showers (Don't you just Hate stepping out of that warm shower into a Cold room???) and figured this would be a great money savings on throwing those away and just buying new ones all the time. Well it Is a great idea but I could only get the small tanks to accept Maybe 1/4 full and no more! Kinda frustrating!! So if you know what I'm doing wrong or if there is another adapter that needs to be used with this to actually FILL the small tanks, PLEASE let me know!!!

You'll never pump more into the cylinder than the pressure differentials between tanks will allow, but even with OPD valves, you can turn the tank upside-down, then crack the valve open, to allow liquid to flow into the small cylinder. without this, only a small bit of vapour enters, and that amount of gas is pretty much useless.
After you get some liquid into the refill, it's almost as good as a new one!

And, it only costs a few pennies!
