Book Description

Easy Belize How to Live, Retire, Work and Buy Property in Belize, the English Speaking, Frost Free Paradise on the Caribbean Coast by Lan Sluder is the complete guide for anyone considering relocating or retiring to Belize, and for anyone thinking of buying property or building a home in Belize.

In more than 35 chapters, it covers everything you need to know: What things cost in Belize, how to find the best deals on real estate, health care in Belize, safety and security, options for residency and how to stretch your dollars in Belize.

It provides detailed information on all the major areas of Belize, whether inland or on the coast and cayes: Corozal Town and Corozal District, the islands of Belize including Ambergris Caye (San Pedro) and Caye Caulker, San Ignacio and Belmopan in Cayo District, Hopkins and Placencia in Stann Creek District and the Punta Gorda area in Toledo District.

Author Lan Sluder has been banging around Belize since 1991. He's visited every area of the country. Sluder is the author of more than half a dozen books on Belize, including Fodor's Belize, San Pedro Cool, Adapter Kit Belize, Belize Islands Guide and Living Abroad in Belize.

5.0 out of 5 stars Eye Opener August 7, 2012
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Excellent, eye opening book about living in Belize. Some of the other books/websites you look at if you are seriously looking at retiring overseas, paint Belize as a trouble-free, tropical paradise. Sluder's book will give you a look at the rest of the story. The prevelance of property crimes (breaking and enterings, thefts...) is honestly presented. The book gives you a breakdown in a "report card" format of the desirability of various areas in the country, so a potential resident can make an informed decision. If you are thinking of a Caribean retirement destination where you don't have to learn a new language, get this book. It presents the good, the bad, and the ugly of Belize.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great compliment to travel guides December 4, 2010
Format:Paperback
This book was very helpful in understanding the country of Belize and providing background in greater depth than some of the travel guides. After visiting Belize and meeting the people Lan talks about in his book, one almost feels to know Lan personally. He conveyed his grasp of the country's nuances and provided his unvarnished depictions of Belize, both of which helped to plan a great exploration.

4.0 out of 5 stars An honest assessment of Belize December 26, 2012
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
This book was written by someone who is familar with Belize, and provides you with the truth as to what you will encounter when you arrive, not some rosy sales pitch. A very useful tool for anyone contemplating somewhere to live during the winter or as an escape from their country of citizenship. I recommend you read this book.

2.0 out of 5 stars Decent Vacation Guide November 15, 2013
Format:Paperback
Very much a re-hash of his previous books. Should be titled How To Vacation in Belize. Mr.Sluder glosses over the very real problems of living in Belize - corrupt government - corrupt police departments - a myriad of unsolved murders - non-existent roads in the lengthy rainy seasons - horrible even in the dry season - non-existent medical care for anything more than minor issues - the list could go on. Belize does has have some beautiful places to visit but this volume is of little value in living up to the chosen title. A better view next time might be investigated and reported on - What If You Wanted To Move To Belize.

This book is awesome! It gives so much information and is very easy to follow. I'm contemplating a move to Belize and there is so much in this book that I haven't even thought about until I read it. I've reread parts of it numerous times and shared a lot of the info with my wife. The author knows his stuff!

No longer accurate. A little outdated since it was written but a good idea of what to expect of people here. Prices have changed a bit, but not too bad considering. Read more
