A surprising Epic Fantasy from another 18 year old!,
By Dave Horon "Dave" (Pa.) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Prophecy: Book One (Hardcover)
I had to get a copy of this novel as the word was the author was just an 18 year old. I was curious to see what it was about.
To put it bluntly, I was impressed. The novel begins with the traditional kingdom of Oridia and a young prince and his sister. As the story unfolds the kingdom is brought to defend itself against an evil being in the Endless Desert. The story quickly develops as the other four other nations are brought into the conflict, some nations siding with Oridia and some siding with the Menace of all Beings, Ogolion. There are many side bars in the story, one main side bar is a love interest that develops between a prince and princess from opposing kingdoms. With traitors and spies, magic and mystical beings, The Prophecy has it all. C.S. Lewis once remarked that an epic fantasy be huge. The Prophecy is HUGE! The story builds to a high pitch with great descriptive battles and new beings and tales of the quest for old magical relics that are needed to help save mankind from the Menace of all Beings. Then like any good trilogy it left me hanging for more. Most impressive was the wisdom that the young author Simon shows in his writing. His description of honor on page 422 is flatly well beyond his years. After reading this passage, it was evident that the author threads the most magical traits of man throughout the novel. Honor, loyalty, trust, courage and perseverance are the true magic in this book from a first time author. All said The Prophecy is original, exciting, thoughtful and moving and surprisingly good for an 18 year old. Simon's magical literary qualities abound. I was entertained and intrigued by his story. The depth of his pros left me with a secure feeling that this new emerging literary talent is going to be one of the young authors that will be around for quite some time.

I can't wait for the next volume!!!!,
This review is from: The Prophecy: Book One (Hardcover)
My son is in the gifted program at school. His teacher recommended this book for him to read, and lent us her copy. Since, I'm rather particular about what my kids read I read it first.
I loved it. I have read 100s of fantasy novels over the years. This book ranks with the best of them. Not only did I love the book for myself (age 47), but felt it was very appropriate for my son (currently in 5th grade). I am anxiously awaiting the next books in the series. |
