This is a massive, extreemely well-researched tour-de-force on the subject of Prophecy in early Christian times. This work is not for the faint of heart. It is detailed enough, with a definite eye toward the student or scholar. Hwever, rest assured, once you have absorbed the information it contains, you too will be able to regard yourself a scholar.

Carig Keener in his commentary on the book of Revelation recommended this book. It is full of historical details that would be of interest to Mr. Keener. But, to my chagrin, Mr. Aune cannot tell the difference between Christian prophecy and shamanism/magic/demon possession. To him it is the group in power that determines which kind of prophecy is acceptable and which is not. A tremendous amount of knowledge without any discerment. He views himself as an unbiased historian without a theological axe to grind...
