Go ahead and read it if you're curious.,

This review is from: Prophecy: What the Future Holds for You (Hardcover)
This is a controversial book for Sylvia, just like many of her previous books about God and the afterlife. Many people will not beleive what she has to say about the possible future of our world. Then again, many people will cling to every word. I, for one, am open minded enough to accept the possibilities of her prophecies and what lies ahead. I'm glad that she wrote this book because at least I have a heads up.
It's very unfortunate that many true Psychics and Prophets like Sylvia aren't taken seriously. I can understand why. There are so many phonies out there (remember the Miss Cleo debacle?). It's easy for the general public to look at a psychic and go "ugghh" in disgust and not want to listen anymore. That's all stereotype. We can listen to someone like Sylvia who has humankinds best interest at heart. Of course, there are those that would argue and just plain hate here because she does things only a handfull of people can do. I would argue that Sylvia is neither a fake or a phony. She isn't 100% accurate, but then again no one should expect her to be. She's not perfect, and she's definetly not God, but I do believe that she is a modern-day Prophet sent by God to give us messages and warnings. Not everyone will believe or even pay attention. That's okay - there are enough of us that will. As far as what she has to say about our future, it's not all doom and gloom like some people have said in their reviews. The doom and gloom was what they paid attention to and what stayed on their minds. Sure, we are going to face a tough future, but that's the whole point of a book like this: if the weather forecaster says it's going to rain, you know to have a raincoat handy. What I like, is that she doesn't preach to us. She tells it like she sees it. And if she's wrong about some of the bleak things in our worlds future, then I'm glad that people wisened up and took some warnings to heart and did something about it. There are many things to look forward to. This book is well written, informative, and gives us all a glimpse of likely future events. If you are an open minded person and are curious, this is probably a book for you.

All true prophecy comes from the same Source,
By OAKSHAMAN "oakshaman" (Algoma, WI United States) - See all my reviews (VINE VOICE) (TOP 1000 REVIEWER)
This review is from: Prophecy: What the Future Holds for You (Hardcover)
When Sylvia Browne states that everything she does is in connection to our Creator I believe her. It rings true to my intuition. This is a woman that has been honing her psychic talents publicly for over 50 years now, and I respect that. She never claims to be completely accurate every time, but her 87 or 90% accuracy rate is phenomenal.
I also found this book to be well organized and comprehensive- it isn't some rambling potboiler. It really is well structured and laid out. First, we are introduced to the fact that native cultures all around the world have independently believed in prophecy. We are given examples among the North American Indians, the Australian Aborigines, and the Incas. It is emphasized that those independently derived visions are so close that one must conclude that they all came from the same higher Source. This same concept is then carried over to the major world religions: Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Buddhism, and Hinduism. Then more modern examples of prophecy are examined, from traditional examples such as Nostradamus, Fatima, and Cayce to surprising ones such as George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Madam Blavatsky, and Winston Churchill. Once again it is shown that prophecies seem to originate from one eternal Source- eternal and infinite. Then she goes on to examine that source- the Other Side. Much of what she speaks of here is detailed in her excellent _Life on the Other Side_. As for her specific predictions of the future, I won't spoil them here. Suffice it to say that the 2020's look pretty grim- the result of collective bad karma as a civilization. However, if we can get beyond that period the future looks almost too good to be true. I most especially hope that her visions of religious collaboration and of the "Healing Centers" come to pass. Oh yes, her comments on Mystic Travelers might seem hard to believe at first. But then, why shouldn't we accept that other spirits occupy other physical bodies on other worlds just as we do here on earth- and that we can interact with these other spirits both on the physical plane and the Other Side?

Come On Cut Her Some Slack,
This review is from: Prophecy: What the Future Holds for You (Hardcover)
Now let's cut Sylvia some slack folks. This is the first book of Ms. Brownes I have read, as I really just have not been drawn to her. She seems a bit "Cold" to me. But like most Americans at this time I am interested in what the future holds in wartime. So I bought it.
She has made some BOLD long term predictions here that most psychic stay away from. So time will tell if she is legit or not. If she is she will leave legacy similar to Edgar Cayce (Which she seems to hold in high esteem in the book). If she is not she will slide into the land of "Has Beens" such as the likes of the "Saved By The Light Man" um what was his name ........? I just Googled it, it was Brinkley. The point being she has placed her career and reputation on the line, so for that alone I am going to cut her some slack and give her 4 stars instead of 3. As it did flabbergast me a bit that she left on key upcoming predictions (current elections, Israel's situation and such), but she has tried.

This is a very interesting Book About The Future And What Will Happen,
By
This review is from: Prophecy: What the Future Holds for You (Hardcover)
I could't put this book down and it was so interesting to read. My mother gave it to me and I loved it. Whether you are a skeptic or not I highly recommend this book. The first 3 chapters talk about and explore what a prophet really is and where prophicies come from. Sylvia also writes about each religion and what people in these religions believe in in the first chapter. There are phropecies mentioned about what will happen later on in the 1900's and 1800's by other prophets from 19th, 18th, 17th, and 16th century. Sylvia also writes about who the most famous prophets were and what they predicted, very interesting reading here. Many of it is true. Sylvia Brown later writes from Chapter 4 about what she sees in the world for us. This may be more understanding to read if you dont understand what a prophet really is or you are unfamiliar with history.
Sylvian Brown starts by teling us what will happen to the ecology of the earth, politics and economy, religion, education, space travel, technology, crime fighting and forensics, health and medicine, diet fitness, the way we look, mental health, realtionships, and spiruitality. Each of these have their own chapter devoted to them and Sylivia Brown sees what great achievements will be made in the 21 first century. She accurartely for the most part predicts in what year it will happen or maybe a few years later or a few years earlier. Sylvia Brown also goes into specifics which I found amazing. Since I am pretty educated by self. The most interesting read would be about health and medicine. Sylvia talks about what approximate year we will have better techologies that will help to diagnose illnesses from the 21 st century quicker. She also mentions the breakthrough of new medications and how there will cures for people still suffering from disabling conditions. Other people with other interest outside of medicine might find the other chapters mentioned above interesting too. She goes into what year in the 21st century; there will their be signifcant changes in school system, law enforcment, and politics. I highly recommend this book to read it is very interesting and a lot of the things Ms. Brown predicts sounds every real.

"Did your loved one have pretty eyes, sharp features... had a tenancy to eat when they got hungry?". I don't know what to make of my one-time favorite author anymore. She seems to have the same answer for everybody. Her last appearance on Larry King Live was a flop. This was a few months ago; a caller had phoned in and asked about his troubled relationship with his mother, and Sylvia said now that Mom was on the other side, there is no hostility. The caller said "you mean you are telling me my mother has died?" and Sylvia said yes. Then the caller said "Well I'll get back to you after I CALL her!". In one of her last books, "Visits From The Afterlife" she wrote a chapter on Elizabeth Short, who was known as the Black Dahlia, yet she does not solve the case for us. I feel she teases and tiptoes around the mystery, and her saying "take what you want and leave the rest" is more like saying "only what you want to believe is true". Many of her public predictions that I have heard, have never come true; according to her, breast cancer should have been a "thing of the past" in 2000. On one episode of Montel a few years back, she said that John Travolta should stay away from flying planes in March. Well, that isn't really a "prediction". I am giving three stars because though I doubt her credibility, her heart is in the right place when she talks about how EVERYONE is accepted to "the Other Side" (if there is one) and she continues to tell people that there is no such thing as "hell", that it is only a scare-tactic to get people to behave.

Enjoyed by a realist!,
This review is from: Prophecy: What the Future Holds for You (Hardcover)
WOW, I was quite surprised in reading all the reviews. It seemed a split decision. This book seems to be either despised or found to be fascinating.
I found this book fascinating and couldn't put it down. I do believe in many of her predictions, but a few seem far-fetched. However, I have had a few "psychic" readings through my life. Most, I believe were by "fakes" they spoke nothing but generalizations that would fit most people, like I'd be taking a trip this upcoming year. Well, who doesn't take a vacation once a year? However, I did go to a "psychic" party with some friends and this gentleman was very UNIQUE to say the least. He truly was "different". He told me things that didn't seem to fit - but EVERY bit of it happened precisely as he told me. I didn't want to believe him, because he didn't tell me exactly what I WANTED TO HEAR. But he was RIGHT to the "T"! As far as Sylvia Browne, I haven't had a "reading" from her to know. However, I enjoyed reading her book and will be interested in the future, to see if many of her predictions are accurate. I certainly wouldn't discredit them before we know. As some of her predictions may seem "outlandish" to some people, I think this is fear instilled. I will never forget my grandmother telling me when she was young, people told of tv, computers, video games, microwave ovens, cell phones, etc... and before she died she said that no one believed these things would exist and "HERE THEY ARE 50 YRS. LATER!" Sylvia's prediction of Acid Rain certainly is scary, but let's face it folks, haven't you noticed how bad the sun is becoming? I am fair skinned and two short years ago I could put an 8 SPF sunscreen on and go out all day in the sun and get a light "tan". This summer an 8 SPF is only good for about an hour now??? I now need a 30 or more for the day to avoid getting FRIED. Something isn't right in the atmosphere - that I know. Everyone I know was walking around in June like lobsters, even dark skinned friends of mine. Also, marriage & family life changing as Sylvia states, well take a look at the youth of today. Sex has become a recreational sport. I don't know, but I certainly can see many of Sylvia's predictions being very possible. I think this book is absolutely only for those with an open mind! My mother was dying tragically young of cancer 15 years ago. Most of my family and friends couldn't face it and put their "head in the sand" and pretended it wasn't happening. I, however, am a realist. I accepted it with my mother and we dealt with it and I have become a much stronger person since. Sylvia's book has some positive, some negative, some hard to imagine possibilities, and for some people some very frightful, as well as interesting predicitions. I did enjoy it, I guess because I am a REALIST and what's going to happen will happen. God Bless Sylvia!

mixed feelings,
This review is from: Prophecy: What the Future Holds for You (Hardcover)
11-17-04 I have mixed feelings about Sylvia Browne and about her book "Prophecy".
Obviously she is not 100% accurate, which is said to be impossible. No psychic is 100% accurate and none are every psychic about themselves. I'm giving her a 3 star rating because I feel that she could have done a better job with the book. There were so many things that I and many others feel she had left out. Also Sylvia Browne did get a college degree, so why can't she write her books with more structure to them? It's not that I don't want to believe. Just like the next person I'm human and curiousity says that it's best to always keep an open mind about things. Sylvia's books can not be enjoyed unless they are read with an open mind. If you're still skeptical about Sylvia I would highly sugest borrowing the book from your local library. Most any library is online these days so you can check your libraries catalog on any internet accessable computer and you can put the book on hold via internet as well. It's not a bad idea if you are looking for a way to save money. "Prophecy" has been out long enough that most public libraries would have them on the shelves by now. In her book Sylvia mentioned AIDS/HIV being cured next year in 2005. That sounds like some good news. Only she also said that breast cancer would be a thing of the past by 2000. Not to mention that Sylvia Browne never predicted 9/11, Oklahoma city bombing, OJ Simpson, and Rodney King. WHY? Why did Sylvia write in her book "Prophecy" for auto makers to spend the extra few bucks to put an emergency trunk release for all our cars??? I thought those emergency trunk releases are a federal mandated standard by now am I wrong? I once drove a 1990 Acura Integra that already had the trunk release. So does my 1993 Saturn and my 2002 Taurus. All this makes me question Sylvia Brownes authenticity. This is a new book published this year in 2004 and those trunk releases have been around at LEAST since 1990... I would not recommend this book to those who think they would get disapointed because they will.

Sylvia has always stated that her predictions are not 100%! Circumstances can change because we can change the future! This book as her others, give us a glimpse of what may be.

Unbelievably bad predictions,
This review is from: Prophecy: What the Future Holds for You (Hardcover)
Sylvia finds a way to avoid critics in her latest book, by making the vast majority of her predictions fall in the distant future, when she will have no fear of being called on them. Not only that, but her predictions are absolutely ridiculous. She actually claims all the major cities will be under domes by 2020. That's only 15 years away, and we'll all be living under glass domes to protect us from meteors?! Give me a break! How does someone who claim to be the World's Best Psychic completely miss 9/11? I will say that this book isn't a rehash of old predictions and does have a lot of new material, but the new stuff it does have is so ridiculous it's not even worth your time.

This review is from: Prophecy: What the Future Holds for You (Hardcover)
I read this entire book in 2 sittings. Even if these prophesies don't come true, the book itself was fascinating. I must say that when I first heard of Sylvia Browne several years ago, that I was put off by her, but after reading her books these last few years, I must say that love her dearly. This book was so interesting, that I couldn't put it down. In fact, I read most of it aloud to my brother (who lives with me), and he himself was fascinated by it, and he could care less about psychic predictions.
I love the fact that Sylvia included the work done by Edgar Cayce and other prophets of our time. I recommend this book, not just for the fact that it includes prophesies for the curious, but mostly for the fact that it turned out to be a quite interesting read. Thanks once again my dear Sylvia Browne, you are loved. |
