5.0 out of 5 stars Can anyone say Dru Hill? Haqq Islam has done it again.
I first caught Prophet Jones when I saw their video for their 1st single, "Lifetime", on BET's 106 and Park. The song impressed me enough to make me take a chance on their self titled debut CD. 2.0 out of 5 stars THE RIGHT VOICES-THE WRONG TRACK
FIRST and FOREMOST,yes,Prophet Jones-a young R&B quartet from Maryland-can SING but they got come better if they want to be a contender in the wonderous but overpopulated world of contempary R&B.

To be fair, the group's got some things going right:a different name,a member with a memorable 'do("J-Row"'s big Afro reminsinict
of both Shuggie Otis and...

I first caught Prophet Jones when I saw their video for their 1st single, "Lifetime", on BET's 106 and Park. The song impressed me enough to make me take a chance on their self titled debut CD. After listening to the CD a few times, one group came to my mind and that was Dru Hill. This made perfect sense because the same man that brought Dru Hill out, A. Haqq Islam, is responsible for putting Prophet Jones out. When Dru Hill first came out, there were comparisons to Jodeci already being put out once they were heard and the same thing goes for Prophet Jones: The four male memebers, the vocal tones and the subject matter was all pretty much the same. The bottom line, however, is presentation. ..And in that respect, Prophet Jones has done an excellent job with that. First of all, it seems like they are trying to reach an audience of teenagers to young adults. The lyrics are very sexually suggestive so if this was their aim, they have succeeded. The CD starts off with two pretty good uptempo jams, "Woof" and "I Know You Wanna". The latter song being produced by Darrell "Delite" Allamby for 2000 Watts. From there, it's a balance of nice slow jams, more uptempo songs and a midtempo song. Prophet Jones is at their best in the slow jam department. The 1st single, "Lifteime" is definitely the best song on this CD. Their A&R did a good job on selecting this song to be the 1st single. "You Gotta Believe" is also a nice slow jam and my 2nd favorite song on this CD. It talks about a girl's friends that are hatin' on her relationship and Prophet Jones is singing about ignoring the haters and focusing on what's important and that's the relationship itself. "You Can't" and "I Can't Deny" are also nice slow jams. The uptempo "Doin' Me" will remind you of Ruff Endz' "No More" and that is because it is produced by Eddie F and Darren Lighty. Another thing I like about their debut CD, is that the group isn't afraid to take risks: When you do an interpolation of a Stevie Wonder song and do an O'Jays remake on your debut CD, you definitely have a lot of nerve. "All I Do" is patterned around the Stevie Wonder classic. The chorus is just a little different: "All I Do" is think about sexin' you. This is another good uptempo song on this CD. Then they do a remake of The O' Jays "Cry Together". I was impressed by the way it sounded so close to the original and this defintely shows that they have talent and potential. Other noteworthy tracks are the nice midtempo song, "Can I Take You Home?" and the sensual slow jam, "Come Inside". The only drawback that you may find with this CD is that the material is not ground breaking. Guy, Jodeci, Dru Hill and others have definitely scratched this surface before. However, you can't deny that these fellas have talent. This CD may not attract the Smooth Grooves or Slow Jams of the 70s crowd, but I would still recommend purchasing this CD. This is a nice debut by Prophet Jones.

5.0 out of 5 stars The group to watch out for!, January 2, 2003

I'm a real big fan of the PJ's. As an RnB group, they sound very promissing. I find that their one of the few guy groups that other guys aren't embarrased to listen to. They're also very careful about their publicity, they keep it exclusive, on a low profile, the same way Blackstreet, Absoulute and TQ does. If that wasn't the case, people would get sick of them real fast, which is exactly what's happening to artists like P. Diddy, B2K and the entire Murder Inc camp, especially Ashanti. Another good thing about the PJs is they didn't feature any other artists in any of their songs or videos. Camio appearances aren't always necessary in the first place, and even more to the point, it makes their image more self proclaimed, it distinguishes their identity even further,it makes them more respectable and recognizable. I hope they themselves view these comments, so that they see how many fans they have and how inspiring they music is, so the next time around, Prophet Jones can come back with a sophomore album that will give them platinum status. I'm sure nobody wants to remember Prophet Jones as a one-hit-wonder. And hopefully, they can also update their website. It hasn't been toughed since the 2002 new years period. The website is the only place where you'll find their very first video "Woof" on Realplayer.

I love Prophet Jones & their album. They are destined to become a HUGE success!! One of the members, P.Rowe, already had a song being played here in Tallahassee in 1999....and I'd been in love with that song. So I am so happy to see him out worldwide with this wonderful group.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent CD!!!, April 18, 2006

Prophet Jones is a great CD to own. They are truly a cut above the average R&B group. I first caught wind of PJ by accident. I went to this club in Tallahassee called The Moon during FAMU's 2000 Homecoming weekend. The group Phat Kat Players held a concert there and it was off the hook. They had different artists there that were doing cover tunes and some original songs also. There was this one young dude that could really sing his behind off. He especially tore up any song of Jodeci's that he sang. I inquired and found out that his name was Pat Rowe. I didn't think much more about it until one day in 2001 I was watching BET and the video for "Lifetime" came on. I thought the song was a nice smooth cut, but then all of a sudden I heard a very familiar voice. And I'll be darn if it wasn't P. Rowe singing. It really caught me by surprise, moreso because I actually recognized this guys voice. Needless to say I had to go and get that CD as soon as it came out. I played the heck out of that CD over and over again for like 2 years straight. I think that it is time that I bring it back and relive the year 2001 all over in my mind again. If you don't have this CD, take the chance and get it. You won't be disappointed.

New beat! new sound! not the same old same old. Great voices, I hope to be exposed to more of their creativity in the future. This is a group that should not fade away.

I just lost my husband 4 weeks ago. Our favorite cd together was Prophet Jones. It is a wonderful cd and Phrophet Jones is a talented group. We were supposed to renew our vows next year and "Lifetime" was our choice to play at the reception. This cd will always bring back the best memories of my life. If you do not have this cd you should get it!
