The Prophet's Way affirms in a very positive way that one person can make a difference -- and that miracles are at the end of your fingertips. This is not your typical new age personal re-invention story. 3.0 out of 5 stars Some interesting ideas
This is certainly a heartfelt and sincere description of one man's spiritual odyssey, and his attempt to impart the inspiration that he feels to others. The notion of totally selfless acts of mercy and compassion without any expectation of fame or reward is a noble one, and the planet would be a whole lot better off if everyone shared it. And his descriptions of his...

The Prophet's Way affirms in a very positive way that one person can make a difference -- and that miracles are at the end of your fingertips. This is not your typical new age personal re-invention story. Spiritual more than "religious", Hartmann's work shows what is really meant by the kingdom of Heaven being within, and how miracles are already all around us, if we but have the eyes to see them and the courage to bring them to life. If you're one who is inspired by the Sermon OnThe Mount, if you believe in the way of compassion and service, you will be blown away by the courageous story of Hartmann's growth in spirituality and the personal as well as world-affecting miracles that can occur when one simply takes up one's mat and follows Him. You will find a new and more pertinent understanding of what it means to be reborn.

Truly an inspirational book. An excerpt of this man's life that helped me realize that there is so much more to life. It helped me realize how lucky I really am to live where I do, when I do.

Don't read this if you don't care to be moved. It may just put you on a path to help improve this world. I know it did for me. Once your eyes are opened you can't turn back. I suppose it was my little red pill. I am now free from the matrix.

5.0 out of 5 stars A REAL story, about REAL people, making a REAL difference!, December 10, 2004

I'd HIGHLY recommend this book!! It led me to make big changes in my life.

Thom Hartmann openly shares his experiences of walking on the spiritual path, from first faltering steps to meeting his mentor and beyond. He is open and honest about his mistakes and his doubts, which makes his story easy to relate to.

The adventures of Hartmann and his colleagues through India, Russia, America and Europe made me alternately laugh, cry and shake my head in disbelief.

Having read this book, I travelled to a conference to meet the author as well as many of the 'characters' he wrote about. I assure you, they are all real, they are often larger than life, and they ARE working together to make a difference in the world.

I found this book impossible to put down (and I'm usually easily distracted!). This book inspired me enough to travel abroad (for the first time on my own) to Germany (I don't speak any German) to Stadsteinach (where??) to meet some of the people that make this extraordinary charity work. I have since been introduced to an amazing group of people who are all working for good, without the dogma of any organised religions hanging over their heads.

Truly amazing.

The notion of totally selfless acts of mercy and compassion without any expectation of fame or reward is a noble one, and the planet would be a whole lot better off if everyone shared it. And his descriptions of his journeys around the world are fascinating in their own right.

What I didn't like about this book was the abundance of "New-Agey" descriptions and anecdotes. I'm a strict believer in science, rationality, and natural law. I don't believe in spiritual energy fields, psychic consciousness, and the like, and I certainly don't believe in angels, let alone angels giving flaming swords to people. I must admit I rolled my eyes a lot when he went off on this sort of thing. I'm sure Herr Muller is a wonderful human being, but I just can't buy into all that. A worthwhile read nonetheless.

5.0 out of 5 stars From a German bookworm, December 11, 2004
This review is from: The Prophet's Way: A Guide to Living in the Now (Paperback)
The Prophets Way has been a guidance for me when I wasn't so sure about which path to take in life. It is a spiritual book but it is also a book about practical and meaningful help one can give to other people. If somebody is looking for what makes sense in life - here are very good examples.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant. A Must Read, December 10, 2004

This is a heart felt, inspirational real life journey by the author and his spiritual mentor Herr Mueller a German Christian mystic. Their journeys together working for Salem (peace) in creating homes for abandoned and disabled children in some of the worst areas of poverty and misery from Africa to Russia are both heartwarming and awe-inspiring and leave you feeling glad that there are souls out there who care enough to act.

This is a wonderful book. I recommend it wholeheartedly.

The humble author takes the readers for a wonderful journey into spirituality and enlightenment. The gist of the book is that small acts to mercy can and do change the world. Even a seemingly insignificant change as picking up a lost earthworm in wee hours of the morning so that it does not get trampled upon later during the day, can ignite a spark and change the world for good. My life has been forever touched and my spiritual eyes have been opened. I have moved over to the other side, so as to speak, the side of more spiritual and less material. Two other unforgettable books by Mr Hartmann, The Last Hours of Ancient Sunlight and Unequal Protection. Get them, read them, distribute among friends and loved ones.

5.0 out of 5 stars Solace and strength for "believers in exile", November 2, 2007
This review is from: The Prophet's Way: A Guide to Living in the Now (Paperback)
This book will be a welcome sojourn for those dealing with any disillusion over religious systems. Hartmann's spiritual journey has been as unique as anyone's, and thinking believers will find abundant encouragement here relating to their doubts and struggles.

This is the same Thom Hartmann who has recently written extensively about democracy and the threats to it. We learn in this book that it's his spiritual journey that's brought him to the study. I first read "Last Hours of Ancient Sunlight," then "Unequal Protection," and this present book is the most refreshing and reassuring of all of them, as well as bringing together issues about the world in a spiritual context.

I'm now struggling with how spiritual growth and social action are related, and this read has helped. I've been working to integrate insights from John Perkins, Daniel Quinn, James Howard Kunstler, David C. Korten, and others into a worldview that makes sense of the question, "So now what?"

Hartmann's "Prophet's Way" has brought me back to the issues basic to all such decisions and helped sort through the others. The way of peace and brotherhood is infinitely more than a stock phrase. It's a way of life that we can, one by one, step into with full confidence that millions taking such a step will transform the world.
